I just read somewhere that Olivia's Birkin was fake (and those people were pretty positive), is that true?

That's just the thing. Olivia has done an excellent job of looking like someone who has tons of money. When you consider that so much of her "socialite" wardrobe is actually topshop it's not hard to imagine she would fake it with a Birkin.

That's just the thing. Olivia has done an excellent job of looking like someone who has tons of money. When you consider that so much of her "socialite" wardrobe is actually topshop it's not hard to imagine she would fake it with a Birkin.

To me that has nothing to do with whether a person has a real Birkin or not. If you go to Knightsbridge or Kensington in London you will see a boat load of real Birkins carried by people wearing majority Zara, Topshop topped off with Chanel flats or a Cartier love bracelet or some other expensive item. It's not about wearing head-to-toe obvious labels for some people.

In the pictures of Olivia before The City she seemed to be wearing Chanel gowns and Jimmy Choos and Louboutins to all of the random, inane social events she attended and very little high-street. I think the reason she wears high-street now is because she KNOWS that her fashion is being followed and she purposefully trys to pick high-street pieces at more reasonable price points she thinks she can mix in with her Valentino jackets etc so as to make her style look more relatable etc to the magazines etc out there

^I think her more recent reliance on high-street has more to do with her dad declaring bankruptcy a couple of years ago. Olivia still strikes me as someone playing a part and trying to keep up with the Joneses. She's doing a marvelous job of it though.

i agree with you..you don't need to be in chanel head to toe to carry a real Birkin...but i think she has always worn a lot of zara,topshop etc..and that's quite a reasonable: a young girl,who doesn't work, unless she's an heiress or something like that, it's more likely that she'll go shopping at zara than valentino, also she seems to be quite a savvy shopper and living in NYC you definitely can find a bargain or something on sale...
btw a lot of what she's been wearing lately seems to be a gift,a loan or a p.r.-marketing move so..the girl is definitely clever and knows how to make the most out of this situation

^ I agree!... recently she is about as high profile as you can get; I don't think too many people in her situation have to pay for much....She wears shoes or carries a bag and the pictures are all over the net and in the tabloid magazines a few days later...These stories just don't ring true to me- I just think there is a big Olivia resentment clique out there- still, maybe worse than ever... I'd like to see her march into the NY Post's offices and say 'Here- take some pictures of my bags!!'

Extraordinarily beautiful she may be, but the Tatler cover was a brilliant example of how 'unnatural' Olivia can sometimes look in front of a professional lense.

I would be fall-on-the-ground shocked if her Birkin turned out to be fake.

^as i said..i really dont' care but honestly...there are plenty of rich-well groomed-high society women who have 5 birkin and not all of them are true..maybe they use the fake ones for rough journeys or for a trip...i don't even know why, but it's not a so-uncommon habit, trust me

i imagine this all started because there was an episode of the city where joe sent olivia down to canal street to find some fakes for an article...
she was checking out birkins, etc. but i think ended up buying some chanel, lv and gucci bags...

i kinda doubt her bags are fakes...some people choose to spend their money on pieces that are timeless instead of buying expensive everything, and that's how olivia strikes me with her style...
and if she does buy something pricey, she makes sure it is versatile and wears it to death (ie, those proenza schouler grey booties)...
