Miuccia Prada introduced the ultimate must-have accessory for the fashionista whose hedge-fund husband has got into deep water in the current financial crisis: waders.
Models in her autumn winter collection, earlier this evening, wore tweed shorts, red-knit sweaters and braces holding up the rubber waders normally seen on trout fishermen.
Prada, one of the most influential designers in the world, said she was inspired by clothes for the outdoors, which could be worn by strong, feminine women.
This led to tan, rough tweed suits, cinched with a narrow belt, and tweed coats, which were split up the sides, revealing the absence of skirts beneath, and were accessorised by that other stylish staple of rural life – green wellies; although they are not often seen with high heels.
When country life palled, Prada suggested mink and brocade dresses. And for boardroom fights or fending off the bailiffs – gladiatrix dresses in burgundy and black leather, embellished with red crystal studs, and worn with stack-heeled shoes with a fringed cuff inspired by Trojan helmets.
