Hi,

does anyone know anything about fashion studies AAS of Parsons? Is its educaiton and reputation as good as their BFA fashion design ? I am just accepted by the program, but don't know much about it! Anything I need to know?

Thanks:doh: B)

I want to do this program! Tell me, was it difficult to get in? Any pointers you could give me? I did their summer intensive program, and I loved every second of it!

theres the CFDA and I think there is some coucil for Haute Couture

Mullet, I think most countries have a fashion council - there is the British Fashion Council , who organise export/trade fairs, fashion week, seminars etc. so I'd assume the Danish fashion council did the same...

You might find what you're looking for from www.danishfashion.com - it says in 2005 the Danish Trade Council started something called "Born Creative" for businesses in the creative & arts industries. Is that what you're after?

thank you space & stilista, i actually googled it and came across the British council and had an idea of what this was. i'll go to that link, and then probably come back with more questions  .

(love the loretta avatar, space, btw  )

the link doesnt work, stilista :(
i actually get what this is now, i knew it as comittee :ninja:..i guess it's the same thing?.

hello, did anyone attend any short courses in St martin's? are they good enough?
I taking an advertising degree in october, then I've to choose between short courses or a master in marketing, fashion editing...
The fact is that the master it's really expensive, that's why I was wondering what about collecting two or three short courses...
can anyone suggest me?

I'm on a fashion short course at Central Saint Martins at the minute. It is very useful, the tutors give you lots of tips and help plus there is work from past famous alumini everwhere. Really enjoying it so far..
:D

I am also interested in this program so if anyone has additional info or personal thoughts please share!

Hi! Im actually starting my first semester in parsons - aas fashion marketing..
up to now everything is amazing and the aas students are receiving even more attention than BFA students... even the career advisors are more focus in aas students as most of them have previous degrees or work experience..!

Columbus college of art and design, I haven't heard of it before to be honest but not to be mixed up with Cleveland college of art and design, which has an excellent textiles/surface design course. (it also gets abbreviated as ccad)

the main reason i didnt put lcf in my ucas form (aside from the school was crap) is that they didnt have a big part of work experience, so i chose csm where they have a lot of bigger houses to have work experience with - the students i spoke to worked at galliano and said they had a lot of fun

they consistently turn out students have have work just as good as st. martins.
i think in terms of big fashion houses you are probably right... i know past alumni such as boudicca come in the brief the students on their next project! i was saying they might not be better off in terms of garment construction etc..
the name a school can only get you so far...:innocent:

'Break a leg' to all those who, like me, are embarking upon any sort of design education. It's exciting to be joining an artistic tradition that not only gives us something to talk about but also has a direct impact on the way we see ourselves and our crazy little world. I personally hope to see many of you in the fashion gauntlet as friends--or foes...I'll remember our TFS days fondly...

is polimoda good in florance (italy) for masters?or where would you say is good for masters besides CSM, cos i really dont like there.

Marangoni is a 15hr programme because they are Diploma, but still equvilant to degrees.

i've been led to believe LCF is the one to aim for, but i don't really know what other ones there are...
there's a fashion course at bristol uni for example, but i'd quite like to go to a specialised uni

There aren't a whole lot of undergrad programs just for fashion writing. I would suggest studying writing or journalism at a school that has a strong design/art program, comparative studies, or liberals arts as well as writing. You need to be clever with words and have a large base in art/aesthetic history, contemporary culture, and be able to make intelligent connections between it all.

Good programs I know of are The Art Institute of Chicago (has a great writing program, strong fashion program, and an excellent liberal arts progream) or University of Chicago which has a good writing program as well as a nice fine art program. It also has really good comparative studies and liberal arts programs.

There are graduate programs for fashion writing like Central St. Martins.

I think it depends what sort of short course you are on at St.Martins....i took a fashion journalism one which was fun, but by no means would even several short courses of that sort, would compare to a masters degree. but then again, there are some courses, like the portfolio courses, which are quite well known.

am thinking about taking a short course this fall at LCF in fashion merchandising to see how things are there...it really important for me to have a school that has good job placements/connections as I don't have an EU passport and therefore need some sort of visa....boo to that!
