US Vogue May 2022 : Rihanna by Annie Leibovitz

There is only one photoshoot at the Ritz Paris that will ever matter and that is Kate Moss by Tim Walker IMO. It was dreamy and beautiful and whimsical and perfect. You can't really surpass that.

This shoot is vulgar and trashy by comparison. And Annie Leibovitz really needs to chill on the photoshop front because some of those photos are bordering on amateurish in terms of photoshop effort. What's with the weird blue/green colour filter on half of the images? It's not the correct colour tone!

Hear hear!
The racism and sexism on this forum is getting out of control these days, but almost no one seems to care about that.

Three whole pages before anyone pulled out the race card. As for the sexism, who exactly is being sexist? Is it the women or the gay men who frequent these boards?

That shot of her staring at us in the sofa is stunning. As they were willing to be daring, this should have been the cover!
I find Pieter’s Alaia quite vulgar and it’s interesting to note that the only time she is fully clothed, in Alaia, she looks vulgar compared to the other shots.

She oozes confidence so I like the Ed. In a way there’s some kind of saturation with Rihanna but I think it’s great that she has those great pictures of her pregnant. It’s more elevated than the candids we have had for months.

That shot in the bathtub! Stunning too…

This is Rihanna style, it's her very own way. And she looks amazing doing it. I don't see other people with her style and looking that good as her. She embodies pop culture as the the celebs from the 80s, 90s and 00s, so to me it's valid what she does with her outfits. In 20 years we'll see a model recreating this as Miranda did with Cicciolina or Natasha as Anna Nicole.

My friend just said that she looks like a snake that swallowed an egg in the fish leather jacket look PLEASE I thought it was cool

I didn’t know it was possible to both under and over-illuminate a photograph…leave it to Annie to show us the monstrosities photoshop is able to breed.

That cover is seriously an eyesore, that cheap looking catsuit, the fake-looking background with lighting that’s physically impossible, the weird shadowing around her body…someone should arrest this woman.

I don't care for Rihanna but I love this story.
Masterful use of lighting, set, composition.... Some glam vibes finally.
I can't look at one more 'model-thrown-on-the-floor-with-her-legs-up' or 'shot-with-my-aunts-camera' editorial....

Wow, and people think fashion photography is bad in 2022, I can't imagine 2042.

My problem is more with Annie Leibovitz than Rihanna/the styling. Lots of photographers seem to get better, understand their point of view as they get older, but with Leibovitz it's just... dreadful. I don't think that Leibovitz is a particularly bad photographer, but I just don't get what she's doing anymore.

Calling her trashy, tacky, looking like a stripper and asking "why she needs to be naked since she got pregnant", all because she is a woman who still wants to wear the same clothes she did when she was not pregnant. What is tacky or trashy about a woman showing her pregnant belly? We as a society are so conditioned to think a pregnant woman should look a certain way and get very upset when she does something else, which is the basis of sexism. And I have no idea about who is behind every account and what their gender identity or sexual orientation is which frankly is not very interesting anyway because everyone can be sexist.

And the race card? Oh please, don't even start with that one.

Oh Azzedine, I'm so sorry that this is what has come of your brand because that is one HIDEOUS outfit. Especially after years of being scorned by Anna. Pieter Mulier should be ashamed to think this is remotely fitting for a brand such as Alaïa. A damn shame.

Everything about this is wrong to me besides Rihanna herself. The looks/styling are lacking (she's been wearing far better outfits in her daily life and events), the lighting is terrible and the post production leaves everything looking sterile. Leibovitz is losing her way and her grasp of how to light skin adequately. Of course the Insta fashion and gay mafia are frothing at this, but that is to be expected. We're stuck in an era of mediocrity so anything exuding a mere speckle of 'glamour' yields a "YASSSS QUEEN THIS IS FASHION! THIS IS THE MOMENT!".

But, Rihanna does look gorgeous and in command. Just a bummer that everything else is severely sub par. This is Vogue Anna. Please, lets lift it.

Sofia Coppola, Radha Blank, Janicza Bravo, Autumn de Wilde, Julie Dash, Tom Ford, Regina King, Martin Scorsese, and Chloé Zhao are the "nine directors tasked with transforming 13 period rooms of the museum’s American Wing to display a history of American fashion from the late 18th century to the late 20th century for “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” part two of the Costume Institute’s comprehensive survey of American fashion. Annie shot some of them for the the magazine. I'm hoping she shot them all, and the other images just haven't been released yet, but unfortunately that's probably not the case.

Wow the Scorsese pic is so bad. Was he even in the same dimension as the background? Annie at her worst.

Agreed. Sofia’s is the best, because she looks like she was actually shot in the room, not photoshopped into it.

It is a discussion board, essentially about fashion, there is bound to be differing opinions. You don’t see anyone attacking board members who praised the cover or her style. I don’t see the point of attacking those who don’t like it. I find it trashy. I don’t need to be called racist or sexist because of it. She can wear whatever she likes, however she likes to. I still find it trashy in this case. To each there own. You don’t see me telling her to cover up. Because I don’t care. It’s trashy, next. I’ll skip this issue.

Annie's photography is pure camp at this point and I love it! She's been having her infamous Photoshop ''blunders'' for years, now it seems purely intentional and there's something quite funny about that. But let us not forget that Annie can be legendary when she wants to! People are very quick to forget that. Sofia's shot is amazing! And Tom looks quite sexy, surprise surprise.
