US Vogue October 2015 : Lupita Nyong'o by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Nice to see M&M shoot for Vogue. I don't like the cover but I love the spread!

The cover is fine, the editorial is great, but once again M&M copied the style of a another photographer, this time between to Steven Meisel & Patrick Demarchelier.

I Love this.
People disappointed in the backdrop, well, those solid gray or white backdrops have been used for decades. The whole idea is the backdrop disappears and the subject stands out. Problem is most photographers today choose the wrong shade of gray. Either too dark or a weird taupe grey like this.
But compare this to the funky bad photoshop gray on the September cover with Beyonce'. This is infinitely better.
And I don't think this is so much a copy of Demarchelier or Meisel, anymore than Demarchelier or Meisel had copied Avedon or Scavullo's style.
If you admire someone their work can easily influence what you do.

What I like is the lighting. Lupita glistens! She's so gorgeous.
And I love how she looks so at ease in anything she wears.
Not like some starlets who always seem the clothes are wearing them.

Personally, I don't understand why people dislike the cover so much. It's such a striking shot.

Stunning. I love the editorial. THIS should have been Septemeber.

Surprised to see M&M.

I love Lupita and the editorial is stunning, but I don't find the cover to be attractive at all. That shade of gray is borderline disgusting.

Also I was hoping to see a TV actress (Kerry, Viola or Taraji) instead of a film star again, but we know how Anna gets with her favorites. Not complaining though.

Lupita looks gorgeous and the cover story is great. The only wrong thing for me is the background of the cover, it's bad. They should pick another picture.

The editorial is the best they've had for a cover star this year.
in years no? maybe even a decade!

I don't care for American Vogue... the last time I thought 'wow' and went back and forth with an editorial featuring their cover star was that September issue from 2003, with Nicole Kidman photographed by different photographers. In the case of Nicole, I had already seen her work so that made her images and the energy she used to be able to emit more fascinating... but with Lupita, I have to admit I've never seen her movies (Steve McQueen and Star Wars, no thanks..), hopefully soon, but I'm constantly amazed by the 'muse' quality of her pictures... she's stunning and of course already looks like a painting! but I like that there's also understanding and interest in the creation of interesting imagery, and that's rare in actresses these days (or models for that matter).

I forgot to check who edited this but goooorgeous textures!..

I'm surprised they put her on the October cover, since Star Wars doesn't come out until the end of December. That said, the editorial is beautiful; she wears the couture so well. But I hate that flat, dull background on the cover. Some texture would have made it much more interesting, IMO.

shame about the cover it looks like Christmas wrapping paper, but wow the editorial is beautiful.

That looks Great!
A seemingly minor adjustment makes a big impact!
Good call with the texture.

Wow the texture ^Above edit^ made a huge difference! It looked alive! The background reminds me of Beyonce's cover. The gray fade out but at least this isn't blurred.

So glad that there is another transgender feature!!

The cover is terrible, very fake backgrounf to much photoshop, she look a plastic girl, the editorial is nice but M&M Copy the Meisel+Testino stye, shame!!!

So you all decided to have THAT cover? Like seriously, what’s going on at their office? The editorial is so gorgeous that cover doesn’t do any justice at all.

This is truly stunning. I might be the only one who really like the background on the cover. I think Lupita and the gold dress pops and I can't wait to see it on newsstands.

As where the September cover looks absolutely dry on newsstands. The October issue background works

M&M did an amazing job with the editorial. I wish they would work more for American Vogue and push out Testino.

Nice cover. But when I think of all the other people they could have had on it who weren't just on the cover in July of 2014, I'm amazed Anna Wintour is still employed. She lacks creativity and fresh ideas and needs to retire.

Same people over and over. Kerry, Viola, Taraji and many others who haven't been on the cover could have done this exact same type of cover, but sadly Anna can't think outside the box.

Honestly when I saw that cover on Lupita's IG feed, I gasped and stared at it for a while. She's so so beautiful and that cover is striking. I don't see anything "flat" at all. Only the emphasis on her beauty, there's no shying from her dark skin - remember all those light issues suspiciously whitening black skinned stars? - nothing here and the rest od the editorial is just as perfect. My last US Vogue purchase was her previous cover and my next one is going to be her second. ^_^
