US Vogue September 2017 : Jennifer Lawrence by Annie Leibovitz

I'm probably one of the few who loves the painting cover...it's the most "fashion-y" cover we've seen for US Vogue in quite a long time. Although it would've been amazing if Meisel had shot it (maybe)...Otherwise Annie's cover is the best, kind of appreciate the very straight-forward Yank glamour of it.

Where's this supermodel feature being mentioned...or am I blind?

Covers are ok. Most are underwhelming. Wish they'd used someone different than J Law.

Never mind how dull - in terms of fashion - Jennifer Lawrence is, I love the first cover and the "coming to America" message I'm getting from it, with the boat sailing past the Statue of Liberty.

I love all the covers so far for different reasons (like for Instyle). My favorite are the two last ones. The draw is really interesting and different for American Vogue and i applaud the risk. It's perfectly executed.
I&V's cover is really Fashion. It's simple and yet striking...Even if this kind of things has been done before, it looks fresh and i love it.

The first one is very cliché but it works. Weber's cover is cute but out of all 4, it's the less exciting. This kind of cover could work individually not in group.

I would have loved to see a model on their anniversary cover. It would have been a strong statement but i like Jennifer for Vogue. She has an interesting face.

All four covers are incredibly beautiful, in my opinion. And they demonstrate her versatility as a photo subject. The energy she's giving in the Liebovitz phone vs the I&V pic is pretty awesome. And I love the casual feel of the Weber cover - it feels the most true to JLaw herself.

I also agree that Nicole would've been instantly iconic in these cover images. But I'm happy with Jennifer Lawrence, as well. The truth is that she's a genuine movie star in a way that other actors (male or female) haven't really been since the early 2000s.

That Bruce Weber cover is gorgeous.. I don't care if his work or talent says nothing or is even questioned by newer generations, I think he's one of the last true gems left in fashion and one of the few with enough brains and integrity to keep his work somewhat consistent and soulful even when the commercial demands go the opposite way. I haven't bought a September issue from Vogue in... 11 years?.. since I was too young to realize that stuff was really just paper and NOT ~collectible~ haha, but I'll give in with this one.. makes for nice coffee table decor. :zorro::heart:

I'm strangely attracted to Rob's cover.. I agree with the member that said it's the most "fashion-y" effort Vogue has done since the Marie Antoinette cover (which was, I think, the last September issue I bought).. I've always been fascinated by royalty paintings and the modifications in their faces/bodies, so I think this is fun if you take that nerd-ish approach.

The one with the statue of liberty feels political now and I'm sure that was intentional so it's good that Vogue.. bothered. The other cover is nothing.. standard Inez and Vinoodh.. years ago I also spent a long time going over their work pretty sure I was missing what everyone else raved about, but nah.. there really is nothing, that's the whole point and key to their commercial success.

Every single one of these covers is gorgeous.
Nice to see woman of genuine accomplishment on the cover of Vogue, instead of instagram celebrity models, Spiderman sidekicks, and other dubious b-listers.
The painting cover is probably my favorite, and the Bruce Weber cover is sublime.

Much like everyone else Jennifer isn't necessarily my favorite actress, however she looks pretty decent here. I like the spirit they captured in celebrating their anniversary, so good job on that. But I just wish Meisel had a hand in this as well. So many classic September Issues he's shot through the years would have been a nice to see him celebrated.

In regards to Nicole who I would slightly preferred over Jennifer already had this sort of treatment in the past. If recall correctly they did something similar in 2003, she was shot by by the likes of Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Annie, and Craig McDean. So I'm not exactly messing her, having the opportunity to be photographed by Helmut and Irving alone is significant enough in my opinion.

The covers are ok, the I&V's one is the best. Wait to see the content.

I like Bruce's cover the best, not typical Vogue US but it's really great. Not too excited to see JLaw though, I don't find her interesting. And apparently she has mentioned leaked photos again in the interview, I mean can we please move on? do you have anything else to say? I'm sure it must've been horrible but still....

She is indeed overrated, especially in the fashion industry.

I think she's a fabulous actress, but as a model.. :ermm:

Never new why, but I just can't stand her. There's no rationale to it at all. But I did find this on vogue.com via Yahoo Style to give me justification. Anyone who likes that family is out with me:

" Perhaps her most approachable quality, which she opens up about to writer Jason Gay — in addition to her packed work schedule, her reputation, her work to end political corruption and the gender pay gap, her relationship with boyfriend and Mother! director Darren Aronofsky — is her love of reality TV.
Her passion for the genre runs so deep, in fact, that crew members on the set of her latest aforementioned thriller made her a “Kardashian tent” to help her decompress after intense scenes (one time she even hyperventilated, dislocated a rib, and had “oxygen tubes in my nostrils”). “It was a tent that had pictures of the Kardashians and Keeping Up with the Kardashians playing on a loop — and gumballs,” Lawrence said of the refuge. “My happy place.” (As she describes her passion for reality TV, “You can look at someone else’s life and say, ‘Well, obviously, you shouldn’t marry that guy,’ and it makes you feel like God for 30 minutes.”)

"

On the Statue of Liberty cover in the listing of celebrities featured in the magazine.

Jennifer L is so boring and overrated as an actress. I am tired of seeing her. This would've been so much better with models and specifically POC models. It would have been a great opportunity for them to showcase diversity in a special way for the September issue, *** Edited *** I would have selected four POC models for the separate covers. Halima Aden, Imaan Hammam, Lineisy Montero, and Adwoa would've been better options for the cover stars.

I love Jennifer and I love seeing her get this. And thank god they decided not give her the Adele treatment this time around. We can actually see her body! The editorial is blah but the painting is absolutely beautiful. Im not going to lie, I've been a fan of hers for a long time.

She couldn't even put her differences with Meisel aside and suck up to him to shoot a cover? For me it's ridiculous that I&V and Weber are getting these when it really should have been Meisel and Testino (as bad as he is now)! But considering who is on the cover, perhaps it better this way.

Why?! It's enough to have that photoshop monstrosity Annie dares to call a photograph. Why do we need Meisel or Testino? To do lesser versions of their past hits? Pass.

The painting cover is the best, although she does look like she came out of Whoville. I&V should know better than to sell their souls to this magazine...it sucks the creativity out of any photographer. I like the Weber one despite me not being a fan of his work.

On another note I'm sure the rest of this issue will live up to my expectations...:rolleyes:

The painting cover is definitely my favourite out of the four. It's weird, unique, and strangely fun. I am a bit surprised that they didn't commission James Jean for the portrait instead of John Currin (since Jean did the 'Mother!' movie poster).
