Valentino Haute Couture S/S 2010 Paris

helmut there is nothing Valentino here lol ,its a blatant RTW rehash of Balenciaga , Ungaro ,Rodarte from seasons ago

If you look into his archives, especially in the 60's and 70's, you will see a lot of these looks. The embroideries also, you will be able to find them.

If anyone has Valentino: A Grand Italian Epic, his book, and you flick through it, you will be able to find the inspiration for this collection. Maria and Piere took these looks and updated them.

Also, why Balenciaga? I see nothing of Ghesquiere here. As I said before, he was not the first one to use neon colours. What else is Balenciaga here? And Peter Dundas was not the first one to use the whole 70's glamour/disco print/sequin thing. These comparisons are idle.

 Hell I thought I had clicked on the wrong thread......is this really Valentino?? Mighty strange.

I think there's too many hate here... :boxer: Guys, loosen up! :flower: It's just a collection! :)

Yeah, it's just a collection. But we as a forum like to discuss fashion and particulary in D&C we like to discuss fashion shows. Everybody has an opinion, and just because you like it doesn't mean that other people can't state their opinion, however mean it is. It's an awful collection and it's just not acceptable under Valentino's name. -_-

I can't believe they got rid of the brilliant Alessandra Facchinetti for these two designers.

I really don't get the hate here. It's not as bad as everyone makes it to be. Imo, this would've been better suited as a ready to wear collection. I personally am loving it. Love the use of the neon colors.

You know, Valentino appealed to a younger crowd, too. It's not like he produced nothing but granny clothes for fifty years. Only it looked like SS07 when he did that:

Speaking for me and my female acquaintances, none of us young girls has ever craved wrapped see-through pants. With out without flowers pinned on them.

ugh, that's outrageous  oh god, it's inevitable to bring the alessandra's discussion again... I still wonder why.

emmm what the hell is that? you are sure it's alentino? coz the biggest problem i see here is not the fact it's sooooo damn ugly, highschool project-like but the fact that this even don't look like it was ever close to valentino. And i don't buy the "going for younger customer" crap - it's not younger, it is bad.

To be quite honest I'm surprised of the new direction given the past HC and RTW collections but I do see a connection in the materials and the amount of detail.

To be fair and as it was mentioned, I do understand why many Valentino fans react this way after so many collections of a certain look and of a certain clientele. Yet most of you speak of an identity needed to be formed and I think it's far too quick to judge on identity. All I see in the new designers is that they are experimenting and trying something new and more innovative. It had to happen someday. I guarantee you if it went back to a "Valentino" feeling people would call it boring and repetitive yet when new ideas appear people react this way. Again, I understand that this is a whole new direction and I'm a bit confused but I do see the beauty in many of the designs shown. I like the fusing of color and having it explained of this as a fantasy actually makes sense.

I'm excited to see their RTW collection and where this will take them. That's that.

I'm saving the best for last.
Say hi, y'all!

Valentino is the next Ungaro.

How I agree with this statement. Valentino is going to ****. This would be amazing if it were Givenchy or a Balenciaga collection, but it isn't. It's Valentino, and there are no signature pieces here and worst of all none of his trademark red gowns! In fact, no trademark Valentino pieces AT ALL. I don't think they are ruining the fashion house, but they are indeed changing it drastically in a very nonchalant way. I do not approve.

I can see the ideas in this collection, and in the hands of a master, they would have been translated into rather exquisite outfits. I'm willing to give the duo some time to find their feet before writing them off; unless you're particularly gifted, it takes years of experience to form a practical understanding of design, not to mention the more subtle art of creating delicious fantasy with commercial appeal. Given their background, I wouldn't expect them to be able to dance through the archives with a deft touch, not for some time.

Yes, it's a shame that they got rid of Alessandra, because now they've got a design team which has a lot of ground to cover before they're as good as she is - but maybe the house of Valentino is working to a different timescale than the one we have in our minds.

Wow. This is certainly Balenciaga/Rodarte/Alexander McQueen/Versace/Viktor & Rolf Prêt-à-Porter in one collection! And the makeup is disgustingly horrible! Alexander McQueen can do much better than these two. We're having an identity crisis here.

It's easy to pinpoint what kind of designers and collections might have had an influence in this. But really, all those designers (Versace, Pucci by Dundas, Balenciaga by Ghesquiere) draw on the same source as inspiration, so in the end this kind of comparision is redundant. Besides, if you look into Valentino's archives, you will find a lot of the ideas shown in this collection.

My problem with this collection is that there are too many ideas here; they've taken too many ideas from Valentino's archives and put them all on the same runway. It's not cohesive at all.

I like the idea of using neon at a Haute Couture level; its interesting and modern. I also like their attempt to attract a new customer. Lets face it; ugly or not, this is more commercial than their last HC collection. And it will no doubt attract a large clientele base, even if it isn't necessarily the same one as under Valentino himself (Alice Dellal, for one, who walked the show is testament to their new clientele base).

Also, I don't see why people keep referring to Balenciaga by Ghesquiere here. You know, he was not the first one to do neon, he was not the first to combine colours such as those shown here and he certainly hasn't shown anything as soft and romantic as this before.

I appreciate your non-overreaction to this.
This collection is strange but it is not worthing going into an uproar over, it is one collection (save the anger for Galliano's Dior).

It is a huge pet peeve of mine when people always shout BALENCIAGA when something looks structured, futuristic or neon now-a-days.

& I am sorry but the current designers at Valentino HAVE NOT done that bad of a job. Their past Couture collection and RTW collections have been very fresh and interesting for the brand. People screaming for them to be fired are a little ridiculous.

i must say the new designers at valentino are real dumb F***s, all those women who for years have shopped at valentino are just being pushed away and its very disrespectful . You have to respect the legacy of the house , but I guess at Valentino that doesnt matter because they would have been fired by now. Churning out Balenciaga/Rodarte knock offs doesnt equate to success in the long run , if there will be one that is lol.

I could not agree more. Its very disrespectful. Without that client that were already there, the House would have not survived and they would not have jobs. Yes bringing in new life and clients to a brand is good but u dont push the clients that have been loyal to the brand away.

First of all I dont see a single thing here that would even be close to anything that Valentino would have made nore would he have used as insperation for anything.

Also I think it is extremly funny that u said "Lets face it; ugly or not, this is more commercial than their last HC collection". Commercial...really. Get serious. Its called Haute Couture for a reason. Its not ment to be commerical. Who in there right mind would pay hundreds of thousands of dollors for a commercial dress that is supposed to be Haute Couture that they can go get from any TJ Max outlet. I do agree that neon is not something horrid but it must be done the right way just as all color combinations must be.
