Valentino Haute Couture S/S 2010 Paris

I've never been so taken aback (and not in a good way) by a fashion collection.
This collection looks like Lindsay Lohan's Ungaro x Balmain x Emilio Pucci x Gucci. I'm speechless.

The new ultimate insult for all time- "This is worse than Lindsay's!!!"

can't wait to read the reviews......i just hope we aren't the only ones hating this.......

Valentino's new design team continued to reach out to younger consumers, racheting up hemlines on the neon-saturated runway at Wednesday's spring-summer 2010 haute couture show.

After a timid debut one year ago — when they sent out rhinestone-covered satin overcoats and A-line dresses that looked like they'd just stepped out of the label's archive — designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli continued to forge their bold vision for the new Valentino woman: She's wild, she's daring, and most of all, she's young.

After all, how many woman past their teenage years can pull off translucent, bead-studded tulle leggings with an equally sheer ... dress? Or was it a shirt? And who besides an adolescent could wiggle into an ultra-mini bustier in fluorescent pink ruched chiffon bands?

"We think that to keep a future in couture, it's necessary to bring a new customer who wants something cooler," Chiuri said in a backstage interview with The Associated Press.

Piccioli added, "We tried to make new strategies for going forward. To do that we have to experiment with new silhouettes ... because we want to call the young girls. They can be new customers for couture because they want beauty, they want personalized things."

Models, some of them wearing blindfolds in shimmering chiffon, sported pantsuits in neon organza, or asymmetrical draped goddess gowns in dusty shades of mauve and pink. One standout look was a boxy coat covered in fluorescent flowers and worn with opalescent fingerless gloves.

The designers said the collection represented their vision of Eden, abloom in riotous flowers and birds, with an innocent sensuality.

"It's about a woman wandering in this beautiful Eden," Piccioli said. "It's a dream. Couture is a dream."

they clearly forgot that not all young woman want to wear horrible, cheap looking things.....

^it must be the press release.

or just that abcnews isn't a great source ...

While I don't see the Valentino spirit in this collection at all, nor a collection I would be able to pick out as haute couture, there are some nice looks in the collection. It just doesn't make any sense with the name Valentino on the label.

i must say the new designers at valentino are real dumb F***s, all those women who for years have shopped at valentino are just being pushed away and its very disrespectful . You have to respect the legacy of the house , but I guess at Valentino that doesnt matter because they would have been fired by now. Churning out Balenciaga/Rodarte knock offs doesnt equate to success in the long run , if there will be one that is lol.

OMG! I actually totally thought I ran into an old school Emanuel Ungaro thread. The plisse, the colours, the fabrics. This is sooooo Ungaro.

It's such a severe change of direction for Valentino. Its like theyve fully just ditched the old clients.

This looks like an attempt to channel Rodarte when they first started. Or a rehash of everything Balenciaga....or Pucci, or Versus, or Christopher Kane...all circa 6 years ago.

EPIC FAIL

(I like the headbands though)

Besides this being ugly its incoherent, why would you wanna pay couture price for a drapped dress (the two first ones from this collection are rather acceptable) that you can fin ANYWHERE else!!! at ready to wear??

I think this was a huge step back from last season´s couture, I think it proves once again they are still strugling to find a "vision" for Valentino, I would have preffer to see their pre-fall line parading down this runway today, felt much closer to the brand, far more luxurious with all the sluty vibe they so desperatelly want to add.

This didn´t feel luxurious at all, or delicate, I imagine the expression of those seamstresse´s faces when they got this sketches or saw the final dresses, poor them!

Loocking at this collection I felt the same feeling I did looking at some collections from Mcdonald at Givenchy couture, specially fall 2002.

Alessandra must be laughin so hard right now!!

yeah alessandra must be having the last laugh for sure , just goes to prove KARMA IS A b*tch lol

It's easy to pinpoint what kind of designers and collections might have had an influence in this. But really, all those designers (Versace, Pucci by Dundas, Balenciaga by Ghesquiere) draw on the same source as inspiration, so in the end this kind of comparision is redundant. Besides, if you look into Valentino's archives, you will find a lot of the ideas shown in this collection.

My problem with this collection is that there are too many ideas here; they've taken too many ideas from Valentino's archives and put them all on the same runway. It's not cohesive at all.

I like the idea of using neon at a Haute Couture level; its interesting and modern. I also like their attempt to attract a new customer. Lets face it; ugly or not, this is more commercial than their last HC collection. And it will no doubt attract a large clientele base, even if it isn't necessarily the same one as under Valentino himself (Alice Dellal, for one, who walked the show is testament to their new clientele base).

Also, I don't see why people keep referring to Balenciaga by Ghesquiere here. You know, he was not the first one to do neon, he was not the first to combine colours such as those shown here and he certainly hasn't shown anything as soft and romantic as this before.

omg Im going crazy!! This is like a DIRECT copy of Ungaro! And a heap of Pucci too.

helmut there is nothing Valentino here lol ,its a blatant RTW rehash of Balenciaga , Ungaro ,Rodarte from seasons ago

 well I guess Valentino must've seen a moment like this would happen when he left his brand.

I must say... it looks like Linday Lohan for Ungaro's follow-up collection..

:lol::rofl::clap: I couldn't agree more ... it's just.. sad.
