After doing my good deed of the month by posting most of this issue... I've gotta say, this magazine is a damn mess. Deciding to use 43 different typfaces is... a choice. And the amount of re-printed photos from their archives, yikes.

It's sort of like a facsimile of what people "think" Vogue Paris was like at the end of the Carine years, and start of Emmanuelle Alt, but without any of the "magic" so it just feels more like a student homage. It's better than the past few years as the standard was so low, but is just rehashing the past really the best for this magazine?

^agreed! For me it is more like they realise that the Carine ´s (and by extension Emmanuelle) aesthetic for VP was the strongest and the one that the audience was the most into.

So they try now to revive it without the main people behind it and it feels cheap or just lacklustre because it is sexless, with a poor casting, not provocative at all and above all not genuine. VP was really about style and was very unique to the POV of the women (and few men) behind it.

It is either you have it or you don’t.

I am not into Alasdair at all but Dan yes. I think he did a great job at Lui magazine and could really bring something interesting.

They should just move on and think about what VF stands for now.

I feel like this is very much how most creatives in fashion operate nowadays. All they do is reference iconic images but don't filter them through their own pov and sensibilities so they end up producing a lesser version of the original.

With the ice cream ? 👀

Edit : found it! Indeed. Total rip off.
For such a random ed to be in my mind, VP under Carine was really great.
I think they should have some of the photographers of that time shoot with the new editors and have some veterans stylists with new photographers. I think about people like Cedric buchet, Mark Segal, Sharif Hamza or claudia knoepfel & stefan indlekofer.

^Katja Rahlwes too!

I agree though that even the small editorials were strong enough to still be in your mind.

Now everyone wants covers, main editorials yet they don’t have the talent to really carry them and the POV are so weak, it’s terrifying.
