american apparel is straight up trashy , the YSL , Lanvin , Versace are more disco sl*t , flowy , sexy , revealing , esp one should dresses at Lanvin scream disco sl*t at studio 54, wearing opium .
american apparel is more tacky miami vice circa 1985. Disco sl*t is more late 70s , very early 80s. That 1977 video says it all . Here are some links , first is a 1977 fashion show by Charles Jourdin at Studio 54. Second is a video showing disco sluts in action from 1978 .
Unfortunately, with all of the slippery fabrics and loose cowl necks, the disco sl*t either needs to be very brave of have a lot of double sided tape. But hey, I suppose that risk was part of the fun.
Grace's outfit on that first video takes on h of a body. I think her eyes are a bit strangely made up there - although with the second outfit it looks pretty good. Her face is so cut.
mcnuwave - it's harder to find the guy look, I agree with American Gigolo as a good match:
When reading the topic titel, I thought of a comeback of the colorful and sometimes quite tacky 1995/1996 fashion, which was a reinterpretation of the late seventies. Haltertops, glitter, platforms, very tight (and short) t-shirts, bell bottoms, etcetera.
These are all images I've saved on my computer as inspiration for my sketching, but they embody the mood of the disco sl*t look:
The woman on the Playboy cover is Madleen Kane. She was a smaller star on the disco scene, but drop-dead gorgeous and impeccably dressed. There are some great videos of her on YouTube, check them out.
I agree for us guys it would be more like American Giggolo, Tony Manero, Halston, or any Studio 54 regular. Someone here mentioned YSL's latest collection in this thread and it does look very late 70s, esp. the trousers which are great!
Maybe this trend can be called: Disco Chic sl*t cos what were seeing here are clothes with great taste and style. It would be cool if more pics from the late 70s were posted here too for ideas. Dior in the late 70s had cool stuff too, but I think Halston was the late 70s' DESIGNER.
Reading the comment of the Lanvin dress with Opium , remided me of the pic where Nan Kempner is with YSL at the Opium launch party in 54 back in 1977/1978.
I'm nit-picking but I don't think it should be called 'sl*t' even though I'm aware it's being used playfully. Does wearing revealing clothes make you a sl*t? It might not sound so catchy, but to me it's just unapologetically sexy.
^I'm not sure I like the sound of disco wh*re or disco prostitute either . It should definitely be something with "disco" in it though... any other ideas?
Stealing slightly from GroovyDolce, how about disco chic? Or maybe that's a bit bland...
EDIT: I got the last post on the page again... no one's going to even see this... =/
