   LMAO

Am I the only one who quite likes the pro wrestling thing? Its different isn't it? Who could have predicted that? I like seeing things that keep you guessing. :innocent:

There is absolutely nothing wrong in wanting to sell, especially with the troubled economic times in status quo. However, I don't know why it then has to be an onus to totally stifle your creativity.

McQueen does not do such exactly. You can see him indulge in a few numbers. Problem: why enter Versace territory? You see, the problem is not really the restraint place upon him to sell, but the direction of the collection. The gold chains on the black dress and white gown are dissapointingly tacky.

The other problem with the clothing is the lack of imagination. Even if you have to sell, you can still create pieces that make a statement, which was effectively done at Balenciaga. Seriously, would you know this was a McQueen, even remotely, taken out of the runway?

And, moreover, the problem is Lee is one of those designers whose pieces make a statement.

The once chic McQueen's 'goddess the morning after' look is rather more puzzling than inspiring
From Lisa Armstrong, Fashion Editor in Paris
WHETHER Alexander McQueen’s appearance at the end of his show in a “We Love You Kate” T-shirt means he’ll be using Kate Moss for his next campaign is anybody’s guess — along with the motives behind the weird clothes he sent out.

According to the programme, McQueen had been inspired by goddesses and phoenixes, which may have been more Kate Moss references but should never have been allowed on to pricey silk jersey.

McQueen has been “inspired” by mythical goddesses before — his first couture collection for Givenchy nine years ago — and it was not a huge success. On its umpteenth outing it looks as fresh as a hen night the morning after. Black pleated mini-dresses (the goddessy bit) with more straps than an S&M trapeze artist were a crazy and derivative pile-up of Versace, Azzedine Alaia and — when the straps came with rhinestones — Siegfried and Roy.

To say that this was a bit of a departure from this winter’s chic 1950s and early 1960s silhouettes is an understatement. The new direction is particularly puzzling given how hard McQueen has worked to establish his label as an international byword for sharp, impeccable tailoring.

His autumn Novak bag (a classic, ladylike structure) was meant to make a reappearance on the catwalk last night, presumably to confirm that the house is serious about expanding its handbag collection — the basis for any international fashion house. But there was scant evidence of it. Perhaps someone decided that it didn’t go with the leather bra-and-hipster drainpipe configurations. Then again it’s hard to know what to accessorise that lot with, other than a red light.

I liked the overall look, but I didn't like how much the clothes reminded me of specific designers. Yes, Gianni Versace, Paco Rabanne, Ford for Gucci... is he wearing his influences on his sleeve? Why does it seem too earnest to be subversive?

I like miniskirts... I like massive belts... the shoes were amazing... I think perhaps McQueen has raised our hopes too high in the past? Certainly the clothes had the tough-beautiful girl look that I love McQueen for.

I think the theatrics were getting boring... I found Galliano's Dior and McQueen quite enjoyable without. They are actually talented designers when the focus is off the hype.

No Balenciaga was great but it was a pretty obvious attempt to sell the brand. I mean, those embroidered tank tops, come on! By desperate I don't mean that those collections are bad. Just that they are trying very hard to earn the customer's dollar, which they weren't really known for in years past.

agreed.. imo, Balenciaga did it well, Stella -for what she stands for- did it almost well, but Mc Queen flopped.. even though there are few great looks in his show, like  .fransesca's choice, the detailed 'one piece' swimwear look , the simple long black v neck dress with the HORRIBLE werstling belt...
my point is that McQueen needs to decide if he wants to take over Versace's place or if he prefers to stay being mcqueen.. i'm afraid with this collection he's even risking his own client base, and this is dangerous business.. he's been around for ages, he should have known better..

that said, yes, this is a dissapointing collection that mirrors the escalation and the depth of the ongoing crisis in european fashion industry, already in its third 'in the red' season and given the current international economic stituation there are almost no signs of rebound.

crisis is been obviously affecting the 'creativity' of most designers & that of their assisting fashion teams, some for the better, some for the worst, depending on their level of 'cool' and their optimistic/pessimistic stance.

shareholders scream for commercial success without realising that the crisis is total and affects all industries.
creative talents, suffocating under the preassure of the 'money people' react in whichever way they see fit.
Whoever goes out of this 'creatively alive' gets a trophy for making the right move while in a very stressed and heavy environment.

i'm afraid there are not few the 'big' designer labels already in serious money problems, i wish them all to stay strong and just work even harder.
Giving up is not the thing to do right now..
there might be more casualties than dearest Jurgi :(

awful, just awful.. I like perhaps one or two outfits...and the hair and make-up doesn't help either.

the Novak is pretty nice though.

Thats a great review, cheers Fashion Puss!

I can't say I'm not dissapointed, though the collection isn't a total disaster and I quite like some of it, I'm used to mcqueen collections being flawless. I even found last season's significantly more commercial collection stunning.
I like some of the details, all the shoes are lovely as are some of the dresses and I don't actually mind the wrestler thing, it's just I shouldn't have to point it out what I like.

Ditto. If you want to sell, you have to make something (commercially) desirable to your target consumer. He got it wrong here; I think, trying to expand his client base by going mostly commonplace, which I doubt would be effective because those people would just be getting those at Prada, Versace, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc.

Moreover, the pieces that weren't commonplace, like the "strips-of-fabric" or "gift-wrap ribbon string" bathing suit, would those REALLY sell?

Oh, now I get it ;) Well, I thought the tank tops made it rather eclectic. What I was most fascinated with during that show was that every new outfit added an unexpected, yet logical, element.

The more I see of the McQueen show the more I like it. Some of these dresses are going to look great on the red carpet.

A Sad moment in Fashion

Its a sad sad day. Mcqueen goes mainstream. Looks like any other collection now. How unfortunate....It seems that this seasons fashion week presenations, for the most part, has gone down hill with very few designers actually giving us something to look at...
(tear)

:(

my eyes hurt. what happened to him. is he drunk??

the swimwear give me nausea. it' s very unfortunate that he sold out, he used to be so cretive...well the good times are over...

to be fair...mcqueen has always done those belts...
i've got a pic from the boutique from last spring with a beautiful hammered leather belt...
and his is done with better proportions and quality workmanship that that silly thing tisci did...

**interesting that tisci follows in lee's footsteps givenchy and manages to come up with a bad copy of lee's work...:innocent:...

everyone has a bad season here and there...
it's obvious that designers are just trying to stay afloat...
no one has a crystal ball...
so it's anyone's guess how this will all play out...

though i think all the comaprisons to other designers are right on...
ford's gucci, paco rabanne, versace...etc...
but none of those designers are working now...
so maybe there is a hole in the market and maybe this is actually a good idea?...

who can say?...

This is the curse of the fashion group. Designers have to eventually compromise on the creativity to make a profit. However the dresses are really nice and as liberty said it's something to look at.

Looks like he's trying to make mcqueen more profitable.... it will probably work..... but this is not him at his best.....

Very BORING collection......
