I doubt they'd chose Alexandra Golovanoff as VP's EIC. I enjoy watching her tv program La Mode, la Mode, la Mode but I highly doubt that she could handle being an EIC.

It will be interesting to see who will replace her...it has to be someone who speaks French at least. I think Emmanuelle Alt, Marie Amelie Sauve and Virginie Mouzat are all good contenders. Carine has shown you can be a stylist and great editor-in-chief at the same time.

when carine took over, vogue paris wasnt at its best moment.
to many tFS it may not be at its best right now, but the figures say the contrary.
Carine has been able to make the magazine grow a lot, she gave it international exposure and bigger circulation. whoever is taking over needs to know how to handle that: the image they project, the adverts, the highly produced shoots, the content...

the publishing business isn't going through good times, so there's a lot to loose. if they make the wrong decision, who knows how long i'd take for the magazine to recover!

I must admit that I wasn't as shocked as I should have been when I found out that Carine resigned. Following the 90th anniversary issue and Carine's recent comments, I had a feeling something was up and that she would be leaving the magazine sooner than later. While I was not surprised by her resignation, I was extremely taken aback by how soon it came. I thought she would wait it off for at least another year or two. Whatever her "personal project" may be, it must be something very urgent, and something that she has known about for a while.

Carine's editorship will undoubtedly go down in fashion history as one of the most iconic and influential of all time, matched only by Diana Vreeland's editorships at Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Under Carine, Vogue Paris always had its Cartier-adorned finger precisely pressed on the pulse of culture and defined and influenced the fashion zeitgeist of the first decade of the twenty-first century more than any other magazine. Her decision to leave the magazine marks the unfortunate closing of a gargantuan fashion dynasty that will go down in history as a golden era.

Carine's resignation is certainly going to be a long drawn out saga, nevertheless, and I wouldn't be surprised if severe repercussions are felt throughout the entire fashion publishing industry. Methinks there maye be a huge game of fashion magazine musical chairs in the works. I'm just not sure yet which editors will be participating. We shall see what happens! No matter what goes down, the events are bound to be attention-grabbing.

While I do believe we're in a game of Fashion Musical Chairs... I don't think that Carine began it but that she is apart of it. I mean maybe this was just on the US side but Fashion Week in September had to be crazy with all the recent changes. I mean Stefano is at W, Sally is at T, Style.com and Vogue part ways, and some other changes I'm undoubtedly missing. Plus there have been a few designer shakeups and rumors of more... to be honest I think we're in one of those revolving door moments but hopefully soon things will settle down.

At the risk of sounding like an Ugly American, which is a particularly awful thing to do considering our puritanism and lack of style, but I don't think that Carine Roitfeld will achieve Vreeland, Tilberus or Wintour status unless she runs an American magazine, and not just run it, but successfully uses it as a platform define / redefine fashion, and if it is in crappy shape when she takes over and she turns it around, even better. CR's achievements at VP are very, very noteworthy and respectable, but in an opening act / prologue / Heisman trophy winner kinda way.

I also have to agree with you Dkammern, they have to choose the best replacement or else VP would likely suffer like VR. And it will take a long time to recover

^^I think it might be too soon to make that statement. We have yet to see the impact her departure will have on the community. I think she has already achieved legendary status.

I also find it very disheartening that Wintour is constantly thrown about as a cautionary tale of "staying too long". American Vogue to me currently has the freshest casting, content, and articles.

Carine was getting stale and not making ANY changes. She knew her best days were behind her so she made the best decision for her current situation. I respect her for it and cannot wait to see what she does next. This woman is far from done with fashion. The 'itch' never quite goes away... many have proven this!

Here is Trendland's take on the whole thing.

Our inside sources in Paris have leeked some information about Carine’s departure from French Vogue, and though she may be pursing personal interests it seems her exit was not all that voluntary. Our sources have revealed that she was fired as a cause of not complying with a request from LVMH group for the December issue. Apparently LVMH wanted a full issue takeover for December but Carine preferred collaborating with friend and long time collaborator Tom Ford. So it seems LVMH boss gave Conde Nast boss a call and an ultimatum, her or us…OUCH!!!!! Though our source is quite reliable we are still treating this as speculation and will let you know as soon as something concrete is confirmed.
