Carine Roitfeld leaves Vogue Paris *Update* Emmanuelle Alt named new Editor-in-Chief

Did she already leave Vogue? or when is she suppose to leave.... I don't want some silly editor at VP, its needs somebody super vulgar. Vogue Hommes Japan needs more vulgarity as well.

^ The Feb issue is her last I think, after that it's Sayonara. Emanuelle Alt is currently the best guess for the majority, though she's probably even worse than Carine. If Carine couldn't do please Conde Nast then Em won't either. And I hope they don't get some lame half-as$ writer like Lucinda Chambers. Her writing is so mediocre, if that.

Ever since this news about her resignation broke out, I've been wondering, what if she starts her own magazine title? I don't wanna compare her to Katie Grand when she left POP and started her own title which is LOVE. It's just that, it could be a possibility for Carine, 'no? :D

^^ Grand makes sense. also considering that "started her own title" is more accurately "conde nast promised her a new title if she quit POP, so they could prepare her for a bigger book of theirs" (or so i've heard :flower:)

no way emmanuelle is taking it. that's what (some) fashionistas want, not mr. Newhouse

Random musings:
There was internet blather that Grace Coddington is close to retirement and if there is merit to that, then I say give her the EIC job for both solid business reasons (her contacts and respect in the industry) and as a swan song / honorific. Also, bring back Marie-Amelie Sauve, perhaps on an itinerant basis and if that works out perhaps something more permanent should be offered. GC and MAS do not need to arrive at the same time and in fact the system would benefit from MAS helping to fill the gap left at US Vogue due to GC's departure.

Of course, the downside of Grace as EIC is that she is not French and may not speak French (fluently) which is a big strike against her, but her plusses outweigh the minuses of any francophones that I can think of, save Fabien Baron. If there is any merit to Carine leaving being due to certain business practices, then I doubt if any of her top lieutenants would be selected to replace her.

I cant see Alt staying around with the new eic, personally, but am excited to see who will form a new team.

^well of course, everything with a black person on the cover sells out in america.
Oh how i wish that was true, sadly its not! Case in point? US Vogue's September issue with Berry, their worst selling September issue in YEARS! It really underperformed which is a damn shame, and it made me sad!

so sad, not to sound melodramatic, but when i first heard this...i was heartbroken

I was thinking ... maybe Conde Nast wants to bring in someone who will make a magazine more stereotypically French in order to get a wider audience??

Vogue Paris under Carine sort of was stereotypically French, at least to me it was.

i know it's unlikely... but wouldn't it be some kind of wonderful if Grace Coddington was flown over from US Vogue to become EIC in VP.

I'm just dreaming out loud but you know. It'd be great.

maybe you are right ... it is a subjective term. I kind of imagine something more bon chic bon genre, something more classic and uptight

What is stereotypically French, a bunch of people in berets? And whatever it is, would making VP more stereotypically French result in more readers or less? I am not saying that VP should not be French, and French people help me out here, France in general and Paris in particular is somewhat diverse, there is street culture and youth culture along with immigrant influences, there's club scene sleaziness, and hopefully there is still some classic elegance and sophistication among people under sixty. Now if they want to be stereotypical, I don't mind if a little regal and opulence at a chateau gets thrown in.

Whoever the new EIC is, I just hope we move on from this over-sexualized VP. I personally am sick of it.

There are rumors about Carine being involved with the launch of Vanity Fair in France, which will occur next year...

Ugh, me too! Carine was great but when you bring in someone like Terry Richardson to shoot the entire magazine you know you're heading for orgasm-galore. And I'm tired of seeing over sexualized kids on the cover.
I have a feeling Conde Nast will bring in someone even worse though. Sex is one of those things that people get addicted to. Like the old saying "Sex sells"

oh now that's something new... I kinda like that idea. And it's owned by Conde Nast... didn't Carine say she would still be doing work for Conde Nast?

I'm actually starting to like this idea lot as I think about it, I always did love Carine's celeb covers and that's pretty much what Vanity Fair is composed of...

Carine at VF smacks of wishful thinking... If so many are complaining that she's only really a stylist, why would she go off to a less fashion-based magazine? And if the rumor is to be believed, would she be a fashion editor? Because that's a step down from being the EIC of one of the most influential fashion magazines, I would say.

I have to say this had little to do with the cover subject and more to do with the pompous lacklustre styling and diabolical editing. The last good US Vogue September issue had Sienna Miller on it in 2007.

^ To be honest, that's how many covers it takes to completely ruin it for me. But perhaps it wasn't just the cover but also the contents.
