Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton)

I think I'm the only one that does not like her look at the engagement announcement. There's something about the dress and shoe combination. . .and her hair! She just didn't do anything for me.

She looks great in Issa but I would be beyond surprised if Issa did her wedding gown. It's not Issa's style and I don't really think Issa produces the kind of 'overkill' dress that would be required for a royal wedding.

i think Kate looked great at hte engagement photocall. I mean, it's clearly a dress style she is comfortable with, as I'm pretty sure she has that dress in several colors. My only problem is that she doesn't dress for her body type. This dress fits her well (though I think it accentuates her narrowness) but overall she doesn't really get her proportions. She has a very narrow, boy-shaped body and great legs and yet she wears such frumpy clothes. but, hopefully she'll sort herself out.

Yeah, this style is much more flattering on someone with more of an hourglass shape and actual hips ... but the dress itself is very pretty, much more so than it looked watching the interview.

The shoes are interview shoes, and in many ways that's what this was. I don't blame her for going a bit conservative. After all, we are not her target audience ... she probably wants people to know she's not going to cause trouble, and she's gonna make the prince happy. I believe those two things after watching the interview ...

I couldn't find anything about what Kate was studying at uni. I read that she used to be an assistant accessories buyer for a small clothing line, but that's all.

There are more on Rex Features that aren't so bad but I don't have an account so I can't post them. Here's some old one's from the daily mail.

Just a normal gal that a prince fell in love with.

Ahh, it's so romantic. :crush::wub::wub:
(Like in the movies but for real.)

I'm suprised people are so down on her outfit. I think she looked lovely. The dress is plain but elegant and she looked at ease and totally in sync with her personal style.
She may not be as high end fashionable as other princesses like Mary but anyone looks good in Hermes,Balenciaga or couture. I prefer seeing a girl rocking some threads that are more accessible to us mere mortals.
I hope she doesn't get ripped to shreds by the press in the coming years.

Someone asked a while back (it might have even been in the old thread, I don't remember) how Kate gets her hair so shiny. I found this on the dailymail website:

How Kate gets her gloriously glossy hair
Kate gets her hair done in Richard Ward’s salon in Chelsea. She is a fan of his Infusion Blow Dry that combines conditioning and speed drying in one step.
She has Kerastase conditioning treatments, using its shampoo and conditioner for dry hair as well as regular protein treatments.
The man tasked with looking after Kate’s hair is Nando Lopes – a Portuguese bridal hair specialist whose trademark style is ‘based in modernity with a classic twist’.
A full head of lowlights costs £220 while a cleanse, cut, condition and finish with Nando is £155.
Kate has her hair cut and coloured in the salon, but doesn’t have to sit with the masses with her head in foils while having her lowlights topped up. Like many of the salon’s celebrity clients, Kate is pampered in one of its VIP suites.
She has also been known to dash into the salon’s Metrospa for a quick manicure, and always favours the classic French. But in future it is likely that the salon will come to Kate at whichever residence she is in.
To keep her skin glowing, Kate uses Karin Herzog Oxygen Face Creams. The creams are not tested on animals and were developed by Dr Paul Herzog, a Nobel-recognised scientist. His wife, Karin, tested his work on her own skin.
A 50ml tube of Karin Herzog’s Oxygen cream costs £35 and 55ml of her Vita-Kombi Day and Night Cream is £53.
Kate wears little make-up in private. She has already told Sophie Wessex how much she liked the natural look she had for her wedding to Prince Edward and that she would like to go for something similar.
Kate had her teeth professionally whitened two years ago, but her flawless smile is otherwise natural and she doesn’t have veneers.
She avoids red wine and coffee, but other than that she owes her gleaming smile to her mother’s insistence during childhood that neither Kate, Pippa nor James eat too many sweets or too much junk food.

The first part of the article is a behind the scenes account of the interview William and Kate did together. It was pretty interesting, but I didn't post it because it doesn't relate to Kate's fashion or style, but the link is below if anyone is interested.

I think your caption is wrong, those are not her parents with Kate. They are aids and secretaries of Prince William. I don't see her shaking anyone's hand either. Same old coat it looks like.

I do love the white coat but she's been wearing it forever. Since 2007 I think? Time to switch up the wardrobe a little. I'm sure designers are sending her box loads of stuff.

^I don't think there will be a big change she's never been stylish and she comes from money so I don't think it matters since she could afford those things before the engagement plus designers have probably been sending her stuff for years now. Everyone assumed she would be proposed to. I hope they make her burn those black boots though and get some other shoes, in every photo the media have been running on the news she is always wearing them :shock:

Kate Middleton's see-through dress could be worth £100,000

The see-through dress which Kate Middleton wore as Prince William watched her at a university fashion show could now be worth £100,000.

Miss Middleton wore the silk outfit, designed by fashion student Charlotte Todd, during a show at St Andrews University in 2002.

Prince William was photographed watching his future bride, whose lacy underwear was clearly visible under the slinky garment.

After the show the dress was returned to Miss Todd, who packed it away in her mother's wardrobe, where it has remained ever since.

The graduate, who has not pursued a career in fashion design and now works in an aquarium, spoke of her pride in playing such a key role in royal history.
She has already turned down an offer of £1,000 for the dress and has vowed never to sell it - but experts estimate it could fetch a staggering £100,000 in the future.
Miss Todd, now 31, hopes the dress will one day end up in a museum like many of Princess Diana's iconic outfits.
She said: ''I couldn't believe it when I heard William and Kate were getting married - I was so happy for them both.
''Then when I realised she would become Queen I started to appreciate the significance of it all.
''The dress is a part of fashion history - the moment William could first have fallen in love with Kate - and that makes me really proud.
''I only made it as a skirt, but they pulled it up on Kate and she wore it as a dress. Maybe if it hadn't have been see-through, William might not have noticed her.
''I definitely think it has a played a part in the royal love story.''
Miss Todd, from Bedminster, Bristol, revealed the dress cost just £30 to put together back in 2000.
She spent a week knitting the silk fabrics together before adding a ribbon trim to finish off the eye-catching black and gold piece.
The elegant slip dress - based on a brief called the ''art of seduction'' - was then added to the collection for her fashion and textiles degree at the University of the West of England.
It was not until 2002 that Charlotte was contacted out of the blue by St Andrews University, to use her item in its annual charity fashion show.
The exclusive ticket-only event saw a host of models take to the catwalk to strut their stuff wearing some of the biggest labels in fashion, including Giorgio Armani and Prada.
Christine Satchett, from South London auctioneer's Greasbys, said: ''With important royal items like this, if someone has got the money they will just keep on bidding.
''I imagine she could get someone to pay £10,000 for it now. But in years to come if Kate was on the throne it could reach up to £100,000.
''The price could just go up ten-fold - it was the same with Princess Diana's clothes.''
