Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton)

I think I would have liked it but the seams ruin it for me.

It reminds me a little of the Zara lace dress she wore recently. I don't really like this one though, too much lace and again it just seems too old for her.

I think she looks great, yes it might not be 'out there' or something unusual, but she has to be 'safe' when she's married to the Prince of England who is going to be the future King.

I normally like lace, but this dress is a bit flat for me. I dislike the seaming, and for all that it's lace, it seems a bit heavy. It also seems a bit much for the event? Haven't seen other photos from other attendees, but movie premieres are generally not this formal.

I've just got in from the premiere/party. She's actually really pretty in the flesh and tiny, my goodness her waist in tiny, all of her is! The dress was really pretty actually, I liked it. As a +1 of one of the actors, we sort of had to wait to the side of the cast line up while they met everyone, she was really great and genuinely chatted to them all, it took longer than I expected. We were just a few rows behind them during the movie, she kept leaning over to talk to William, they seem like a really genuine couple. The invite specified black tie for those wondering, I wore a long gown too, as did many people.

This would have really looked nice on her, floorlength or as it is. I think lace done like this can look nice but as someone said the full lace on her often looks mumsy

As mush as I love her hair, I think she should try a different hairstyle.

Anyway, the dress is nothing special but I don't hate it at all, but I think she should leave lace for a while

Its a bit of a cop-out for people to excuse her poor style by saying that she is being conservative. Obviously, none of us are expecting her to walk arount in a mark fast dress, but you can be conservative and stylish and she isn't.

I will say this dress suits her body better than her other evening looks though. its just so matronly. i don't even think camilla would be caught wearing something this mumsy.

I know a lot of people don't like the dress but I think she looks stunning. It's a flattering look on her. The paneling on the lace is different then most lace dresses though which is why it probably why it's not getting much love. Also, can I just say, Will's is such a gent for holding an umbrella for his wife.... too cute!

love the lace dress but maybe with black inner it would look even better. and why don't you people understand that she is royalty now. she wasn't before so no-one gave a crap how she dressed. and she is royalty know whitch meas she has to dress really boring. i do get that you can spice up even very boring outfits but it's not her style. she plays it safe and simple. it's not appropriate to wear mini skirts and shorts that show off our butt or blouses or dresses that have clivage down to belly button. and she probably doesn't go out wearing leggings. it's not just appropriate.

Er, no it doesn't.

t's not appropriate to wear mini skirts and shorts that show off our butt or blouses or dresses that have clivage down to belly button. and she probably doesn't go out wearing leggings. it's not just appropriate.

Who would expect her - or anyone - to dress tacky like that? I wasn't aware there was no middle ground between boring and tacky and that it was either or.

I don't care for this dress, it's not a bad dress and it's a bit boring but oh well I don't have to wear it! I guess I expected more after I saw the last black evening gown at the military awards.

Um. No. Rania of Jordan is royalty, and from a conservative county, fashion-wise, but she always looks youthful and sexy. Crown Princess Mary, Princess Mary, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Caroline, Princess of Hanover never look dowdy either. All have worn skirts above the knee and risque fashion.

Not to mention Kate's late mother-in-law. Long before she was divorced, Diana was wearing mini-skirts, etc.. Hell, even Queen Elizabeth II still gets praised for her smart outfits. (And look at what she wore in the 1940s: always smashing, elegant, and stylish.)

Yeah, royals have to be more conservative in what they wear, but there is no truth to your idea that they have be "boring" or "safe or simple." And if you think that, you clearly have not checked out the various royal fashion blogs which reveal the variety and range of clothing they wear on a daily basis, to events formal and non-formal. And, yes, they are allowed to wear leggings.

her hair is obviously beautiful but i wish she would try a look sometimes like maybe super straight or a slicked back ponytail? something different!

^ I know, she's got naturally very beautiful hair but it is a bit tedious seeing it the same way for every event... I don't know whether it's just that her hairdresser isn't that good, or that they're trying to create a 'signature' look - like Elizabeth II who's had the same hair for over 50 years
