Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge walks the Cocker Spaniel puppy that her and Prince William bought recently in Kensington Gardens where she happily strolled around, February, 20th 2012

Kate Middleton is a fancy lady! As much as the Duchess of Cambridge plays the normal person card, she’s still a royal, which is why we’re kind of surprised to learn she doesn’t wear fur.
She was recently photographed in a fake fur-lined coat, which the International Fur Trade Federation mistook for a coat with real fur lining. The IFTF posted a picture of Kate in the jacket on its website, which pissed off PETA. PETA got in touch with Duchess Catherine’s people, who sent a letter explaining the following:
Her Royal Highness was not wearing fur. The coat was not lined with fur. We therefore insist that you remove the photo from your social media page and issue an immediate public retraction of your claim. To state that the Duchess is wearing fur is not only false but offensive…to portray the new Duchess wearing something so blatantly cruel and contrary to her country’s values is insulting.
But is it really contrary to her country’s values? The royal family hunts for sport! But, while Kate has indeed gone hunting with Prince William and co. in the past, she has apparently decided to forgo any such activities anymore.

I was just going to say the same thing, she doesn't wear fur but she hunts?!?! There are pictures of her doing it and also holding a dead bird. Seems very hyprocritcal of her to say the least. She may have not been wearing fur in recent pics but she certainly has before. Seems to me like an opportune time to spin someone's image if you ask me. But I hope for her and the animals sake she does start wearing fake fur. We'll see.......BTW this coat above is horrid :yuk:

It's not exactly hypocritical. The killing of animals for food is very different from the killing of animals for fur.

She might well wear vintage fur over her life since some royal garments have ermine linings.

She has wore real fur before? Interesting. I don't think the palace should spin it then to make her look good. Although it is possible that she had an lightbulb moment and decided to cease wearing real fur and we just don't know about it (because she never gives interviews).

I don't think though that it's that bad. Prince Charles is an astute environmentalist (and quite passionate on range of issues from making land substainable to buying local, organic food) but he hunts. I don't like hunting myself but I think it's one of those silly palace traditions they are keeping in place.

Well, maybe this is the beginning of Kate setting a good example for others; I certainly can appreciate how people start to appreciate the barbarity of it all since I went through it myself... ;)

Let's hope so!^_^ She should still burn that coat above though, it's just bad.

It is nice to see her in a more casual outfit. In some of the photos her jeans appear to have a few worn areas or small holes. Is that her old hat from past years?

This a reminder since Lucy's post above that this is not a thread to discuss the ethics of fur or make reference to hypocrisy in wearing fur. Any further posts on this topic will be deleted. Please see Lucy's link to the ethics of fur thread if you wish to discuss it further. Thanks :flower:

I'm guessing this was directed at me to some degree, but in all fairness I did not say one thing about fur after the warning. I replied to Boomer and then I said the coat was bad, not because of the fur (which I didn't mention anywhere) to me it's not a very appealing coat. The whole look of it. Thats all.

Ashcott, I don't think they were referring to you (or not just to you). There were posts after yours that were deleted.

Anyway, taking it away from fur, I;m curious what she's going to wear for her events with the Queen and Camilla. I wonder if they discuss outfits in advance so they don't wear the same color?

I am sure they discuss to some degree what they will be wearing, as everything is photographed today, and they seem keen to present a good front to the world.

ANYWAY
THE Duchess of Cambridge will choose footwear's new shoe designer of the future next week, when she picks her favourite style from designs created by six De Montfort University footwear design students. The chosen student will then be asked to create a pair for the royal to wear.

I don't know how to upload the pictures of the sketches so here's the link

Some of them are plain ugly. She's not known for her extravagant taste in footwear, so I don't know why they're all so embellished. I like Beckha Hunt's best.

I like Beckha's the best but she'll probably choose Tabitha's.

I'm not too keen on what she's wearing today.

Me neither. I don't like the material of the coat and the cut. It takes away her few curves... I prefer cuts on her that give her some shape.

I agree, the boxy shoulders are not attractive and the straight lines of the coat dress just look blah on her, the color is ok.
