So far, the details on those ruff-pleated pieces are outstanding, as usual, but I feel like I've seen him do this before. The top parts are reminding me of s/s 07 in a lot of ways, but pairing them with skinny pants didn't exactly improve upon it.

And I have to say, his color choices are really beginning to bore me. They're always the same with the exception of last year's foray into canary yellow and the two or three robin's-egg blue pieces he did for fall. Other than that it's been the same palette since he started, black, white, tan, taupe, fire-engine red and gray.

i hadn't check the whole collection...
but i guess the déjà-vu impression is because maybe someone told him he had to develop this, as it was his best collection so far under Givenchy - Couture.....

but it looks good, anyway....

i like this a lot i mean A LOT more than lacroix, but not dior :D, even though givenchy is more wearable than dior.

I like it but dont love it, some peices are very toned down, not dramatic enough, also looks like peices were half completed and as mentioned before I too see similiarities with past collections so nothing really feels new to me...

Whew, I'm relieved. I knew Tisci would not dissapoint. I love the monochromatic looks, love the architecture, layering, shoes, metallic pieces, I pretty much love everything. I don't think this is his strongest HC collection yet, but I do not have a problem with the recycling. Dior has been recycling in his past 3 collections, Karl, Valentino and Armani for several decades. He also happened to repeat some of his most beautiful elements in my opinion, so more power to him...

It may have looked good if most of it wasn't the exact replica of his prior work.

I like it, I think it's one of his better collections but like many people have pointed out, it's very been there done that. I can see the other designers rehashing because they have been in the game for a long time but Tisci is still new. He's too young to already go back in to his archives. He should be bursting with new ideas to move Givenchy Couture forward. But it's still very lovely...

if it's gonna be THIS BEAUTIFUL, i wish we saw deja-vu more often!

i certainly expected more... but i can forgive one season of digging in the archives! still number 2 on my list of couture shows (which considering chanel never moves from #1 is a lot)

I can't say I understand why people are dying over this.

Sure, it's chic, the ruff-pleated pieces are beautifully done and flawless looking, and those majorly flounced black skirts that opened are cool, but a lot of this is kind of flat and even slightly lazy looking in terms of execution. It doesn't have the tortured, bristlingly confident newness of his early stuff, nor does it have the overwhelmingly beautiful intricacy and drama of his more recent stuff.

Without those things it comes off as kind of sub-par for couture. Does anyone really need a $20,000 pair of skinny pants?

^ It seems like most people don't seem too thrilled with it (rightfully so, imo). I like a few pieces of course... but overall it's the same old, really. :flower:

btw - I don't mean that to sound so negative if it does... it's not bad but I would have liked to have seen it a bit more experimental and less of what we'd expect.

After looking at the whole collection, it looks very ready-to-wear/ pret-a-porter...:ninja:

even if it isn's as exciting as some of his other collections spike...
it still doesn't suck...
:P

maybe some people aren't as familiar with his previous work as yuou are so they don't really see/feel what's missing...

*he's still very new to couture...
i think it's fair for him to expand and explore certain ideas...
they all do that to a certain extent...
it's important in the evolution of a brand/label

*however-
i must say that the one beige gown towards the end with the bumps etc...
is also reminiscent of Comme - just as the giant RUFFS are reminiscent of Junya...
and that dress is just god-awful...:ninja:
:yuk:...

i have seen a few experimental / interesting things he's done in the past
playing around with materials and shape
though seeing the collection as a whole now i still think it's quite nice

there's a strictness that reminds me of Nicholas Ghesquiere... especially in the white looks... or black looks... or black+white
