I have to write a stupid paper about contemporary styles. can you guys help me to list the styles that are currently existing??

the only ones i came up:
urban
casual
business
prep
gothic
vintage

what exactly do you mean with 'styles'? do you mean trends or do you mean general styles?

What you are describing are pigeon holes, not styles.

Cast your research a lot wider, dig out the history books and see where the influences originally come from, and how they have evolved each time their cycle comes round.

While writing the article, you should of course always keep in mind that there is an enormous ammount of styles in the world. Every individual interpretats styles, trends or what ever differntly which makes up an individual style. I think that's pretty important to keep in mind

you guys need to give this poor kid a break...
it's justs a college paper for what sounds like an american school...

and it is VERY common to break things down into categories in order to anyalyze them...what is the big deal...???
this is NOT a political statement about freedom of expression...
it's some sort of analysis of the current US market...
and only her teacher/professor is going to read it...

i think we need to lighten up a little people...

seems like a good list...
what about
'skater style'...vans, baggy shorts, etc...
80's style is still pretty big...maybe call it 'new wave'?.. or 'hipster'(ie-franz ferdinand, the killers)
'minimalism'..self explanatory
'avant-garde/alternative style'...people that do their own thing..
'ethnic/folk style'...this will especially be big for fall with h&m's big push a la galliano...

I think that your categories (and Softgrey's) are pretty adequate. If we're bothering to categorize such a broad spectrum, Its best to keep the number of 'headings' to a minimum.
