Lanvin for H&M (Update....Second Collection?)

Its funny how at the end of each Lanvin fashion show video there´s a HUGE warning conserning copyrights of the designs showed there...

I don´t have anything against big brands doing collaborations for H&M or whatever but I felt dissapointed when I saw that first pic, we´ve been waiting for long to finally see the designs and the first few ones are exact knock off or original Lanvin, it didn´t feel right to me, or better said, it didn´t feel new.

let's get real here...of course when you do something like this as designer and as a company you want the classics...you want the signatures that are popular. KL did it. stella and V+R too. as did Rei. you see,not everybody can afford main-line designer clothes so i don't really see a faux pas about it. it's just the nature of these sort of endeavours.

^AMEN! That's why collaborations are for... otherwise H&M would hire any independent designer for the store... H&M is doing bussines guys, that's it!

The whole point of these collaborations is that it's a chance to make things, ideas and designs available to a market that can't really afford to buy the mainlines. It's not about this rather silly woman who will no longer buy Lanvin because a version of her dress is turning up in a H&M collection? What a stupid attitude to have. And to never buy Lanvin again? Cutting your nose off despite your face.

The collections became as exclusive as the main line for the most part, and sometimes, even more so. Pieces are made in such small runs, and really quite hard to get hold of. So while it's opening it up to another market, it's not taking the exclusivity out of it. If Lanvin deemed it okay to do - and they'll have been very well and heavily advised in making their decision - then it has little consequence what's thought of it by everyone else.

I feel like people should be made to watch Karl Lagerfeld's TV ad for his collection again, where he basically shot down these exact same theories.

I'm actually a bit disappointed. I don't really think those dresses looks good on the models and I can't imagine how they'll look on me >_<

In my opinion, without Alber, H&M wouldn't be able to create anything near to Lanvin quality and design. He says himself in the promo videos that they wanted to create something that normal people could afford to buy, I think the quality of a product doesn't only refer to the production of it but the overall design quality and finished piece. :flower:

Can I get the difference in price back on what I paid for my Lanvin pieces and what Lanvin for H&M pieces will be then? If there's little difference. I'm just thrilled of course that the items I spent thousands on will be best known by most people as "that brand that collaborated with H&M"

This is what I don't understand, this whole "for normal people to buy". Isn't half of the appeal of high end brands that they specifically aren't mass market? You pay for the designs, the quality and the fact that you won't see 92732757 people wearing the same as you.

and she's angry as hell with this... she said she will never ever gonna enter in a Lavin store anymore.
hah. that's probably the only thing I truly love about these collaborations.. how they wash away all the brand/exclusive snobbery around 'luxury' brands concept that is so passé now..

not so excited about the preview.. it's exactly what I was fearing, excess of satin, volume, bows, 80s shoulders, mini dresses, frills and everything his last EIGHT ready-to-wear collections have consisted of.. *sighs*.. I was hoping for something a bit more representative and long-lasting.. something that blends in with personal style and that you can take care of and still wear in a few years without getting an H&M Winter 2010!! migraine every time you look at it.. I know that's what you get with chain collaborations but I think both Rei and Karl managed to successfully deliver what I mentioned previously.. slightly more timeless pieces..
It's just 3 looks anyway.. I know I'm overreacting. -_-
still crossing fingers for him to do some inspired looks of hard-to-come-by oldies..

But surely when you got the Lanvin pieces you knew that a large part of the price was paying for the brand name? If I want a designer dress but can't afford it, I look for high street versions- the high street has been copying designers for centuries, nothing new there. Sometimes the pieces I've got feel as good quality as the high-end pieces, sometimes not. But when I pay for a full price designer dress, I know I'm largely paying for the brand...

Maybe I would have a different opinion if I owned Lanvin pieces  haha. And sure, the idea of the high end brands is that they aren't mass market, but the idea of a designer/high street collaboration is that they become mass market. If Alber designed pieces that were nothing like any of the Lanvin collections, they might as well have got anyone to do it... I guess the purpose of a designer/high street collaboration is that the brands 'look' becomes accessible, and whether we like it or not, it will certainly be fulfilling that purpose by the looks of the pictures so far.

xx

^ I own Lanvin pieces, and have in fact spent a fair bit of money on main line Lanvin pieces and I feel the same as you for the most part. It doesn't really bother me that this collection is happening, I'm excited for it, and excited that everyone can have the chance to own some of Alber's beautiful designs.

That was without doubt the best H&M Collaboration ad. Karl's fallout after the collection was good too....

other than that being a horrid exaggeration. These collections are produced in such small numbers (like few hundreds WORLDWIDE) unlike the collaborations Target does with designers.

Me and you both can go outside right now and count how many people have the same V&R H&M blazer on has I do or the same CDG H&M shirt I do, etc etc. I'll be the only one.

It was clearly supposed to be exaggerated. And I can guarantee when the collection comes out that I'll see plenty of people in London wearing it, unless for some reason it's different from any other their other collaborations.

Obviously, but I just had to jump on it for giggles. Nonetheless we can't let first week buzz bother us. Same thing when new sneakers drop, the ones that wear their Limited Editions out will wear them at first before slowly getting pushed back into the closet before hitting ebay and ending up somewhere in Wisconsin.

An awful lot of Cavalli's pieces were limited to 250 for the world, that can mean there were probably no more than 20 of that particular item in London alone. The same happened again with pieces of CDG.

So actually, that's more than likely a SMALLER production run than a lot of Lanvin's mainline pieces.

is there a list of the stores where this'll be sold somewhere? oi vey, i love what i've seen already... i praaay itll be at the boston stores!

Luckily, H&M already ripped off these looks ages ago! Tee-hee.

I've never been big on Lanvin, merely because I'm far from the Lanvin woman at this stage of my life. But like Mullet said, I do hope Alber pulls out some of his oldie-goldies, otherwise who will remember what Lanvin for H&M looked like five years from now?

to be entirely honest... i've yet to really see standout pieces from those collaborations on people. it's actually funny how things sell out in the first 5 days, then i don't see ANYONE in it. seriously, 2 days ago was the first time i saw a piece from the Jimmy Choo collection out and about and that was a bag on a girl in Uni.

i kept my eyes open for those shoes while attending parties, press parties, clubbings, even exclusive stuff and fashion parties. none. zilch. or that golden Cavalli dress. or the wide leopard print one. or Rei's coat dress. or even those polka dot shirts/blouses.

like HC-Child keeps on saying, those pieces are so maddeningly limited, the list of stores which get them get smaller and smaller each year, there's still 'exclusivity', just at a lower price point.

which i think is the main thing that bothers people.

Another reason I believe is because there is so much hype surrounding every designer collaboration with H&M that when they go on sale, people are in a frenzy to buy but then do not wear their impulse buys afterwards.

lol

their loss is the gain of people who like it, buy it and then wear it.

seriously, i never buy an article of clothing and not wear it.
