London shopping

Susie and others who went to fashioneast.....is it worth it? I mean practically every weekend there is a sample sale on bricklane but I can never be bothered....I'm sure they either won't have my size (12 or 14 depending) or else it will be crap. What are your general thoughts?

I know it can seem like a waste of time and some are better than others. Being the shopping opportunist that I am, I tend to go to all of them even if some of them are stinkers. Fashion East in particular is one of my favourites simply because of the range of labels are all to my liking: Peter Jensen, Emma Cook, Camilla Staerk, Jens Laugesen, Spijkers en Spijkers etc. etc. - all my LFW faves!

With regards to sizing, some labels are better than others at stocking sizes other than 8 or 10's. But most are very good with the 12's and I find most of these designers quite generous with their sizing. So where I'm usually a 8-10 - I can sometimes buy 6-8! So if you're a safe 12, then you'll definitely find some goodies!

Then there's the prices. If you can rifle hard enough, things going for £10-£20 can be found and that's like sub- Topshop prices! For me, there's no contest. I'll take a day a hard day's work at a sample sale over spending that same amount of money on the high street.

yes definately, it's just always getting to the sales. I'm so lazy. I don't know...the truman brewery scares me  Thanks for the tips susie!

and I didn't mean the argos thing as a put down! Honest! I started a topic in trendspotting about a month ago called 'chav chic' or something like that and btw I would totally wear earrings like that so please don't get offended belle princesse!

Thank you meg and VICTIM. I agree about Selfridges, it's so strange. It's kind of like Bloomingdales in Soho - some jems amids a boatload of crap.

Does Souvenir carry men's clothing? if they do....you might be interested in that as well Faust.

I'll be in london next week, are there any mid-season sale would start?
any further reccomendation??

I don't think it does.... unless there's a secret branch other than the Lexington Street and Brewer Street ones!

Hello, I'll be visiting London in May so i was just wondering if anybody knew of any shops that carry really cute baby clothes. I'll be having a baby sometime around nov. 1 so my baby will be around 6 months old. I'm really looking forward to this.

I concur with susie that out of all the thousands of sample sales in the brick lane area, specifically trumans, Fashioneast is definately one of the best. As I grew up around the area I spent a long time wandering around them all when I was younger with more time to spare, and its really the only one I go out of my way to attend, as I'm quite a fan of most of the labels and sometimes make new discoveries like Generic Jens this time around (though I am still very young and unadventured! they would probably not be new to you)

On the sizing issue, I too am a size 12/14 and again find fashioneast quite good. Although I've put on weight and am no longer always a safe size 12, like susie said, the sizing can be quite generous and 12s often fit. I can't remember what labels this was true of because I'm having a braindead moment, though I know anne sofie black was ok because I bought a size 12 shirt and a M jumper.
In terms of size 14s, if the sizing isn't indeed forgiving, I found at least 4 pieces in every label I looked at.

Trumans is really a scary place at the mo! I hope all that helps :flower:

P.S. Belle Princesse - Argos is actually a good idea to look if you're doing the whole big tacky gold thing, theres some really cheap stuff, which really it should be if its supposed to look cheap!

anyone interested- bill amberg sample sale starts tomorrow at the notting hill store...

Went to London shopping on saturday and for the first time in ages i had loads of money to spend!!I mean i have been working 12 hour days, 6 days a week for the last 3 weeks. However, it was actually the most unsuccessful trip ever. I could not find anything. The only thing i found was a balenciaga coat at selfridges which was adorable which at £800 was affordable but i dnt not want 2 spend that on a coat! I was looking for a pair of "to-be" scuffed boots, white fitted shirt and coat. I tried on an APC trench in a small mens whcih on was fitted at the top yet around waist loked too baggy, hmmmm help! I plan on going tomoro!Help me!
