London shopping

Does anyone know of any shops which sell vintage designer? And how much would things cost, compared to buying new? Thanks so much. I know there are two bye Starbucks in Notting Hill but I have never been in. Are they good?

There are many places, the two by Notting Hill called Retro woman don't neccessarily sell vintage, they also have past season stuff from a few years ago.
I would suggest:
- Steinberg & Tolkien on the Kings Road
- One of Kind; Portobello
- Bang Bang; Goodge St & Berwick Street

The prices vary, I mean I found a Lanvin dress in Bang Bang for £80 but the prices can be really steep. It depends, really.

?

I'm going to London right after christmas until 12/30th.
I went to London almost every year once, I looovveee London.
So I have a few questions:

I don't remember exactly, but do sales start in January or already when I'm there!?

I've been reading through this topic and so here's my shopping list:
  • Oxford Street/Circus (TOPSHOP, Miss Selfridges, Urban Outfitters, Primark, etc.)
  • Carnaby Street,
  • Conduit Street,
  • Portobello Market on friday,
  • Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge.
Have I missed anything special!? Is Camden Town still worth visiting?
I remeber there are a few nice stores around Covent Garden as well...

And I was wondering if there is a similar store to Paris' The Colette and Berlin's The Corner!? (Usually having trend-orientated designer label clothes, accesorries and fashion magazines, e.g. Berlin has the latest Alex McQueen stuff, Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, etc.)

And if you were a fashion design student like me (lol), where can I get pretty (and not so expensive) fabrics!?

Hekp is highly appreciated!!!

^ Dover Street Market has designers like Lanvin & McQueen etc
Also try Liberty although their designers are a bit hit & miss

aloha voxy,

if you want a concept store like colette or the corner then there is really only dover street market.
you would possibly also like the shop at bluebird or start (more east)
other than that harvey nichols has the best mix of brands!

Try both Dover Street Market and Brown's Focus. Maybe B Store too.
We usually buy our fabrics from Shepherd's Bush or Berwick Street. If you're just visiting you might be best stikcing to the cloth house, etc in Berwick STreet (soho) as shepherd's bush is less central and well, rougher.

Anyone know any good designer/sample sale newsletters? I'm signed up to DWS and Secret Sample Sale.. but would like to hear about individual designer sales. How do you get news about such events? I know its probably a secret you want to keep for yourself but pretty please do tell! :flower:

The best place that I can find is susie bubble's blog because she gets lots of mailings on them. On the right hand side she usually has little ad's up for upcoming sample sales. As far as i know, they are pretty much over for awhile. There were loads before xmas though.

How are the prices in vintage shops such as One of a Kind ,or Palette?

Where can I find the best selection of Lanvin ballet flats?
I'm not going to London until late June, but I'm making lists already with places to visit, what I want to buy etc.

Lists

does anyone know if Chanel is more expensive in the UK than the rest of Europe?

*bump*
I'm going to London end of March..
Would love some recommendations..

Hanne - Others have given some great suggestions. I would also add:

Brick Lane for vintage shopping and independent designers, also the unnamed store at 127 (I think?) for past-season designer clothing, and if you're hungry there's the 2 beigel shops as well as a Swedish restaurant, Fika, and more Bangladeshi restaurants than you can count; also check a side-street called Cheshire for home furnishings

The Kinetica museum - check the hours as they're not always open (it's currently at London Bridge while the Spitalfields space is closed)

The British Museum's glass-covered courtyard by Norman Foster

The Soane House, a small private museum with beautiful architecture, paintings, and relics (including a 3,000-year-old sarcophagus), by Holborn Tube station

Top Shop, of course!
Neal Street for United Nude and Doc Martens :mowhawk:

I would check Gridskipper and Urban Junkies for more info.

P.S. London er fantastisk men jeg kan bedst lide København

with or with out storm ?? hamleys is a must for a little present for her :)

shsh the places that carry women's vintage carry men's. I would head up brick lane where there is a Rocket with men's clothes and then on the left is hanover st. (well depends which direction you are coming from I guess. But let's say from liverpool st. or aldgate east) and the big vintage store there has lots of men stuff. Or else head to Notting Hill Gate.
