London shopping

Hi Chloe,

There are tons of places, it's a bit hard to narrow down but you might start with Absolute Vintage, in the Shoreditch area this would be the store most dedicated to footwear; if you don't find anything there you could move on to the other vintage shops around Brick Lane.

If you're looking to haggle a bit then Camden or Portobello might be worth a trawl :)

hi :)
could someone tell me which markets are the best for shopping inexpensive vintage clothes and some unique things?? i thought of going to kingston street market..
also which shops are good and in price range od topshop' prices?
i will be in london for 3 days from the 14th ..

thank you!

Does anyone here know where I can get hold of T by Alexander Wang in London? And where is the cheapest and most reasonable store to buy a Miu Miu or Balenciaga bag? Does anyone know if there's sale or discount on those designer bags?

I'm going to stay at a hotel in Brent Cross. I read on the internet that there's a Topshop at the Brent Cross centre and I wonder if there's a wide range at that store?

And where's the best COS store?

Selfridges sells T by Alexander Wang, although they don't have the biggest selection, but I know they've increased the amount of his main line that they stock recently so maybe they've increased T too since last time I was there.

One of my flatmates works for COS and he says the best store is Covent Garden :flower:

Thanks a lot for the quick answer.

How many Selfridges are there in London? Do you know how much a tank top from the T by Alexander Wang line costs?

And which Matches store is the best one in London?

Do you know if there are any stores that stock these brands and which store has the best selection? (Yes, I'm very into french designers)

And do you know of any stores that sell (old) indie, alternative, cult movies (Jarmusch, Lynch, Nouvelle Vague -> Godard, Truffaut, Rasnais, Rivette ++), movie posters and good litterature as well as great artsy coffee table books?

Woah, loads of "last minute" questions. Going to London in two days and I haven't even prepared the shopping route yet.

There's only one Selfridges, it's on Oxford Street near Bond Street tube. It's a big department store, so it's sells a lot of the brands you're looking for. Miu Miu also has a store on Bond Street and Balenciaga are on Mount street (they're quite close).

I would also recommend checking out Dover Street Market as it's nearby and the stuff they stock is amazing.

Most of the T by Alexander Wang seems to be around £60-90.

I don't know about Matches or the other stuff I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out!

anyone been to relik near ladbroke grove? its a very exclusive little vintage store with some of the most amazing pieces including vintage chanel, alaia, mugler...etc
its pretty pricey though

Thank you for the help hautechild :)

Oh, by the way. Almost forgot this one:

Any GREAT but not too pricey hairdressers in London you recommend? I'm going back to school two days after coming home from London, so I don't have time to get a new haircut before the school starts again (going to a music festival the day after, and I can't cut my hair the day AFTER the festival because it's a sunday and the hair salon is closed.. blahblah you name it)

Have any of you tried "VIVA Salon de Coiffure" in Soho? Though, it's very pricey, £60 for a haircut. I read @ YELP that it's a really great hair salon but I'm looking for a similar hair salon with reasonable prices.
The hairdresser must know me when it comes to my clothing style, music I'm into, shape of my face and how to deal with my hair (pretty thin) etc.

I would also appreciate it if you could post the hair salon's phone number.

Thanks in advance.

you are very specific! i am not sure if u will find them all there but dover street market is a good place to start, as for the movie posters, portobello market might work (fridays and saturdays earlyish, from ladbroke grove station to notting hill, or the other way round).... if ur going to portobello road/market, there is a great sushi place called ukai they have amazing food and the best non alcoholic drink i have ever had...it is literally orgasmic, its called the asian rose iced tea...dont ask questions just drink it
oh and i have no idea about the cult indie movies or coffee table books

There is a thread on London hairdressers around you might want to check out. I would recommend Taylor Taylor, which is where I go. I get my hair cut by Bradley (Taylor) but I'm not even sure he still cuts anymore....regardless, the prices are reasonable, the location is super accessible and awesome, and the stylists are great.

Guys, where can I find the best (and largest) selection of denim? Sass & Bide, J Brand, etc. I usually get mine at Harvey Nichols but wasn't inspired by their latest variety. :flower:

Hi Frenger,

Hope this answer doesn't make you cringe (?) but actually Urban Outfitters stocks all those designers in the boutique section (used to be on the top floor) along with Cheap Monday, Paul & Joe Sister, etc. There is one UO on Oxford St. and another one in Covent Garden.

For movie posters, and books, it's pretty much a trawl through the West End and Soho. There is also the antiques market at Spitalfields on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, which might be fun. Also try the Magma bookstores in Covent Garden/Clerkenwell and the Taschen store near Sloane Square. If you go on Sloane St. you'll find most of the other French designers as well!

And I echo Meg's recommendation of Taylor Taylor although I myself am loyal to Ricky ^_^ they're all good and you can get a free cocktail with your haircut!

i think the UO in high street kensington has a better selection as it's not as crowded/popular as the oxford street one so the stock lasts longer and it somehow has more variety.

anyway,
i do live in london but someone who's coming to visit just asked me for a good place to buy fabrics, buttons and other bits and bobs for sewing, and since i'm a fashion journalism student i have NO idea!

anyone?

are there any stores in london that sell discounted designer and brands clothing? like the american stores: loehmann's, marshall's, century 21...
also do you know of any stores that carry clothing by these designers: marc jacobs (besides the marc jacobs strore), milly, alice + olivia, foley + corinna and vena cava?

thanks!

Any good stores open on Sundays? And is Topshop open on Sundays? I'm going to London for work but I only have time off on Sunday... :S

lumy_ - all of the major stores should be open on Sunday! But they will be open for reduced hours. Topshop I think is 11am-6pm but I'm not positive about that!

Adi87 - There is a TkMaxx in central London, if that helps with looking for discount clothing?

Most of the designers you mentioned can be found at Selfridges.

Lumy_ - Most of the stores on Oxford Street are open from around 10am on Sunday, some shut at 4pm, and some of the larger chains stay open until 8/9pm! ^_^ The malls are also open if you decide to go to those. It depends on where exactly you want to go, but a lot of the normal high street store are open on Sunday, so shopping won't be a problem.
