London shopping

My office has just moved to the city, does anyone know of somewhere (EC2 or thereabouts) to buy fashion magazines? I think the WH Smiths in Liverpool St sometimes has some of the foreign Vogues but I'm looking for somewhere that sells more of the quarterly/biannual magazines.

If you can get out to Clerkenwell, there's Magma bookshop on Clerkenwell Rd, otherwise can't think of anything else in the city. Present on Shoreditch High St has a selection of publications, mostly menswear-related.

Will all the big luxury department stores (Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Harrod's) start their sales on Dec 26th? Or will they have stuff on sale before that?

I feel like I'm always either a few days too early or a few days too late for the sales in London. I'm in London all of next week and don't want to buy things that I know will go on sale two days later :P

Does anyone have any suggestions for good quality vintage shops please? I'm not a huge fan of the big warehouses full of stuff, and don't really ave the time to go through them. I am already planning to visit Rellik, Lucy in Disguise, Blondie and The Girl Can't Help It.

Came to ask the exact same thing. ^_^

What's the usual opening time for stores during the summer?
Thanks in advance.

Most open around 9 on a weekday and stay open till about 7.30-8.00, with Thursdays and Saturday's being a bit longer days.

Going to London next week! I'm a fan of a lot of Swedish brands (WHYRED, Acne, etc.)--does anyone have a good recommendation where I could find those things in London? Or even cheap steals? I can't find a store that carries Whyred when I'm googling London...

Does anyone have any good tips for where to shop for affordable dresses suitable for a wedding? Just moved to London a month ago and am only familiar with the mainstream areas like Oxford Circus & Knightsbridge...

if you don't mind consignment (or seaching through racks of clothing) you could try Bang Bang in Soho and Goodge St or Retro Woman in Notting hill.

c'estlamode, there are quite a few places in London. If anything, you are spoilt for choice!

I highly recommend Sloane Square, also checkout Westfields London, which is not far from Marble Arch.

Best,

^ sloane square = not affordable dresses, sadly.

knightsbridge/oxford street is good if you want all your regular shops in one area. literally everything is there. house of fraser had some really nice formal dresses last time i went. if you want something a little bit more quirky or vintage even, then head to the spitalfields area near liverpool street station

I'm going to London for the Boxing Day Sales this year. My plan was to fly to London on Christmas Day so we could be there when the stores open on the 26th :brows:
I've read some old website entries from a few years back where it said there was no public transport on the 25th at all, though? Is it still like that? I'd hate to pay for a taxi from Heathrow to the city.

Remember taxis are tripple fair christmas day also depending on were your wanting to go sale mostly start the week before christmas or christmas eve gone are days were they all start 26th just heads up

I know, I was there the week before Christmas last year but a lot of the stuff I wanted wasn't on sale yet. And this Summer I arrived on the 2nd day of the sales and Selfridges was practically emptied already, lol. So I thought it would be fun to be there on the 26th but it seems like it would be super complicated. Might as well just go in January for the 2nd markdowns then
