Model Casting F/W 10.11

Gucci was pretty good. Nice combination of old favorites and sprinkling of new girls...love that Valerija and Simona showed up in particular.

The company/Frida's close, close, CLOSE relationship with Next worldwide continues to show itself, though  Anja, Ella, Karlie, Karmen, Ruby, Valerija...

Ruby's last name has a lot to do with her magic. another Dree....
Her borther, is Miles Aldridge, a big name in fashion.

^ Ah, really? Thank you, I didn't know she was related to him. I guess I was on the right track then. :innocent:

yup, her and Lily are sisters.
I guess Ruby has the more HF *look* and she's playing with cobrasnake gang.
I bet she'll have a few campaigns too....

i don't mind Ruby... she's beautiful, striking even, not just a socialite playing model

nepotism is always annoying, but there are worse "regular" newcomers doing well

i'm a bit disappointed - though not at all surprised - by Milan being so predictable. i guess it's a combination of agencies having their strongest newcomers debut in NY (or London) now and... idk  there's no shortage of new girls roaming Milan, but nowadays it's seemingly near impossible to break into a good lineup (even something like Sportmax etc) unless you've already made a mark in the previous cities.

Versace casting sucked this season too,I don't know what's going on with Donatella models' choices lately.
I mean...Lindsey Wixson for Versace??Oh that's cool, then call Pamela Anderson for Givenchy and Lindsay Lohan for Gareth Pugh

And not to mention Snejana,Georgina,Maryna,Karlie or Tanya not being casted at all...this is a shame!

Let's be happy they didn't choose random kids like Ranya again. I know they booked Tati yesterday and she wasn't really Versace, but she pulled off those dresses in a really quirky way.

The best casting of the season was at Alexander Wang and Calvin Klein. Prada was a disappointment, as was Versace and Gucci (who was their exclusive?). Jil Sander was okay, but they have had stronger castings in the past.

I'm looking forward to Balenciaga; they never disappoint with their castings. And I am most curious for Miu Miu. Will they have a similar concept as Prada with their commercial girls or will they do their normal thing?

I would really love it if the Prada casting translated into the casting of the campaign. This would be the one chance for a non-generic looking model to get it, but it will probably be that Samantha Grodville or whatever her name is unfortunately........

Versace casting was really pathetic though.

I think model casting has got at its worst stage in Milan. For New York and London, newcomers look work because they have those runways as training weeks and also, brands like Calvin Klein need blank faces because that cold image work for showcasing the clothes. For London, lesser known brands might also get benefit by blank faces.

But in Milan, you kind of expect they follow their traditional aesthetic with already known girls and a few newcomers who might have an specific look that work for them. That is not always the case, like it happened in Missoni FW09.

But this season, the invasion of blank faces has reached its peak, making a mediocre collection worse than it is, which happened in Versace this season.

I just hope casting directors make a better work for Paris. I'd hate to see another good collection being ruined by mediocre show fillers.

I thought Gucci's cast was amazing
Pucci's cast seemed endless...it was as if it was a Galliano or Dior show

So far, Pucci had the best cast in Milan.
It was a nice mix between newcomers and established models. Same like last season.

Although I didn't hate Versace's cast, especially if you look at the clothes of who they are trying to market to now.. everyone kind of seemed to fit the collection but if felt like Tanya D just needed to be at Versace. There are some models who are just perfect for certain shows and Tanya is perfect for Versace.. Her not being there is like something is missing, it's a little weird :ninja:.

I'm surprised at the lack of Jenny Sinkaberg and Particia Van Der Vliet in Milan so far...the latter is doing better than Jenny but still..after their solid NY season it's surprising to see they aren't everywhere in Milan.

And Liu Wen...only 2 shows so far

^ I agree about Jenny..what happened to her in Milan? I guess Liu Wen's few appearances is due to Shu, Tao, Ming & Fei Fei..lots of options for the asian model spot now ;) Nevertheless, Liu will always be one of the best of Asian models in a while :D
