Most influential style blogs

for one,why is it all jumbled up as one? some of those aren't exactly mere style blogs. some of them are reportage/information blogs from professionals. such as...a shaded view, hintmag, ponystep, and jc report

secondly, style bubble...susie's blog has become as popular if not more than those in the top 3. it should have been second.

a bit weird they would compile a ranking list as such...i didn't realise blogging was so competitive?? silly.

Part of the process was to understand the larger impact of various types of blogs when compared to each other. This started as internal research, but we published it because we think bloggers in general don't get the recognition they deserve among some PRs, advertisers, etc. For style blogs, part of this can come from uncontextualized numbers. You probably don't visit Perez Hilton often or at all (not a bad thing), but the majority of the ads are fashion related. The idea of CocoPerez doesn't exactly make us warm and fuzzy inside, but on the next ranking it will probably make the list of top blogs. Not to mention that it launched with heavy support from the Gap. Why? Because there's still a heavy bias to raw numbers and demographics, and a lot of style blogs are off the radar when it comes to consideration for partnerships and more.

So, we're attempting to create a better measure. The ranking isn't perfect, and it will change and evolve with time - right now we plan to update quarterly. But it gives measured weight to the blogs that reach people.

As for Susie Bubble (as well as the Sartorialist), I'll refer to my previous comment about best vs. influential, but being part of the top 10 is nothing to sneeze at and puts her in very good company.

I'd rather see these sort of style blogs separated in categories than compile them all in one large list, it's difficult to compare say, Garance Dore towards Style Bubble, both offer different insights in style and fashion but I pretty much love reading and viewing them equally as to one each other.

The emphasis is ours, but that actually sums up why we didn't separate them.

I think early Cory Kennedy one was... but im not sure her jumping into a growing up style is working same way.
she was just in the right place seen by the right lens... good story to report...but... im not sure really that could develop into something more... but i might be wrong though...
im not following much style blogs as i search into other inspirational things ...just sometimes u realize people get influenced big time by them

Jak And Jil and Style Bubble should be top 5 in my opinion what a silly list.

I appreciate them making a list but I agree, some of these choices are a little questionable. Still, it offers a couple of ones that I haven't heard of and should be amusing to check out on a rainy day...

This is our first post so before our response, I'd just like to say a quick hello to everyone.

I've quoted ChloeFrancoise, but the general response is for many who feel your favorites should have been higher in the rankings. If we had to make an editorial list of the best style blogs, the list would look completely different. But best is a subjective thing - which is why we decided to publish rankings on influence instead.

There are quite a few blogs that didn't make the top 99 that are personal favorites. Blogs that we check on every day with informative, very original or visually beautiful content. Examples would be the Business of Fashion, Luxirare and Jazzi McG among many others. That these blogs weren't in the top of the rankings doesn't mean they're not as good as - and in some cases better than the blogs at the top. When we launch there will be a post going more in depth on the difference between best and influential, but to be brief best is personal, influence is measurable.

On a personal best list, Stylelist (from AOL) wouldn't be found. However even if a significant part of the success is due to AOL's promotional strength it does reach a large number of people. I should note that part of the process included measuring in a way to reduce the "network effect" from blogs like those on the New York Times, NY magazine, Sugar, etc. to get a more accurate picture of how the blogs performed as individual entities.

Thanks for the feedback.

I see on second glance that Cathy Horyn's blog is there--I didn't know it by name.

I don't want to start any arguements, but I really don't get "FashionToast"... I don't find anything inspirational about it. I find myself visiting it out of a strange curiosity, and I love reading the responses she gets - both the good and the bad. My favourite blogs are StyleBubble and Kingdom of Style - purely because they are honest, non-pretentious, real, and look at so many interesting aspects of fashion - be it a mug, a pair of tights, a building, a telephone, a pair of antlers on a hair band - THAT to me is inspiration, and is what a fashion blog should be all about (imo!). Not just wearing the latest designer shoes, or looking posey and sultry in a well lit gas station.

But all that said - I haven't read half the blogs in the list, and will have a lot of fun visiting each one - be they good or bad! I guess blogs are all about putting yourself out there, however that may be....

^ I really like FashionToast's style! And on the other side, Susie Bubble's isn't for me. It's a personal aesthetic preference. But I do recognise how popular Stylebubble is, and on that grounds think it should be higher.

I'm very surprised Jak &Jil isn't higher too. But it's my favourite so I'm biased!

Smashing Darling is a must for indie fashion. I also like Fashion Indie, WWD, HuffPo Style and BusinessofFashion for more of the business side of things.

the purse blog? haha
i really like fashiontoast, if this list is for most influential, i think she does have a lot of influence on the public's purchases, etc. can't believe LUXIRARE isn't on the list, but then again she is of a different aesthetic... i love her posts.

fashiontoast is way too low on the list, judging by the sheer number of comments she gets on each post and how well known she is i think shes far too low, shes very influential and of course has an intriguing style.

can anyone recommend a blog that isn't all high fashion, but more affordable fashion?

I mentioned Luxirare in a previous response, but in terms of ranking she's further down the list. In terms of personal preferences, we love what she does too. Obviously from the number of comments there are a lot of people who agree.

Just want to repeat that influential doesn't always equal best. And just because a blog didn't make the top 99 doesn't mean that there's no one reading, or that the smaller audience is any less engaged with the content than the audience of one of the blogs who did top the list.

I'm not much of a blog-reader or follower anyway (especially style-blogs) but the only blog on that list which I actually like and visit once in a while is Jak & Jil.

As a general note, if you frequent a blog that you think might be missing from the rankings we're very much open to suggestions. To easily keep track, please tag the site on delicious.com with "style99" (one word, no quotation marks). When we update, we'll be reviewing and scoring all of the blogs people have suggested by tagging.
