Patrick Robinson for Target

^The bag is growing on me, too. At first I wasn't too fond of it, but I'll probably end up liking it in person.

I believe there are actually more pieces than what is being currently shown in the target pressroom. In post 92 one of the models in the article is wearing a dark three-quarter sleeve shirt that is not in any of the pressroom pictures. I also came accross an article a while back which described a shirt with a built-in necklace that I didn't see in the pressroom pics.

I plan on buying a lot of items from this collection.

that one piece suit looks great but wont look good on anyone above a b cup or who doesn't have fake/super perky chest. Though the bikini top kind of looks like it has an underwire. I just wish some of these bikini tops would look good on people who aren't super small....

just a heads up, in the latest issue of lucky (with american idol katharine mcphee on the cover...blecch!) there is a foldout ad for the patrick robinson for target line. i don't have a scanner, but it's a very natural, beach-y type of ad, very lovely and nice and well-suited to the clothes and lots of natural light. i'm more and more excited about this line...all the clothes are right up my summer-eclectic-hippie alley!

Weren't other collections available on Target's website prior to the release date? There is still nothing for Patrick Robinson on Target's website.

As far as I know, Patrick's line is coming out on Sunday based on the information in Target's Pressroom:

As part of the GO™ initiative at Target, Patrick Robinson will debut an exclusive collection of women’s fashion and accessories. GO, which provides affordable luxury from world-renowned designers, will feature the Patrick Robinson for Target collection at Target.com/go and in most Target stores nationwide May 6 through July 15, 2007.
As lucy92 said, Target is probably trying to keep a low-profile with Patrick's line in order to prevent a repeat of the Proenza Schouler craze where many things were immediately sold out.

As a business, I 'm thinking they'd want to create a frenzy and sellout since that's how they make money.

I just think it's weird that the other collections featured parties, press showings and capsule stores but there is little fanfare for this GO offering.

i guess there's no pop-up store in nyc for this collection since its releasing tmw? hmm...

short interview from ajc.com

Here's Robinson's take on the fashions and the GO program:
Q: Where did you get your inspiration?
A: It came from Greece: the ancient frescoes, the vintage prints, the drape of the clothes. I describe it as the "Greek Goddess Collection."
Q: Describe the clothes.
A: There are Mediterranean-inspired prints found throughout — on a tunic, sleeveless dress, bubble skirt and tank. Swimwear, in solids and prints, looks chic with a white crochet sweater and khaki sun hat. Or casually layer satin pieces with jersey dresses.
Q: You are the first African-American designer that Target launched for the GO program. How does that feel?
A: It's so cool to be first! I think of myself as a designer who is African-American, but not necessarily an African-American designer. My goal is to design great fashion for all women to make their own. My partnership with Target allows me to do just that.
Q: What are you currently doing in fashion?
A: I am consulting with [the fashion firm] Paco Rabanne on their worldwide businesses. That includes everything from their menswear and womenswear products to perfumes.
Q: Any other plans in the works?
A: Being a very goal-oriented person, I am thinking about what I want to accomplish over the next five to 10 years. Life is really great right now, and I am thinking about how to make it even better.

Also seems strange to launch it on a Sunday. You think they would want to make the most of the weekend shopping rush.

True, but they'd probably rather have items sell well over a period of time rather than items sell out immediately, because it'd probably cause them to gain money over the long run.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

Pieces are up at target.com/go!
Has anybody seen them in stores yet?

There's a "find it at your Target store" feature for some of the items.

i was at a target this morning and tried some of the pieces on in the patrick robinson collection...the store i went to had only some basic pieces, and the jacket and some dresses (none of the print ones, though.) i can say that the jacket is pretty true to size, erring to the smaller side; it's very cute and very unique for a mass market item, made of a linen-type material, and has cute details like the military type fasteners on the front and unfinished hems. it has great little details, but it is a very light jacket, on the thin side and unlined. i liked it very much and ended up getting up, mostly because i'm a sucker for jackets. the tanks (i tried on the tie-pleated tank) are true to size as well, but nothing is super-clingy so there's a little room for give.

i also tried on the medallion print swimsuit, and that is cut on the smaller side, i found. it's super-cute though; the front is very flattering but there is a strap that goes across the back that i found really tight. (it could just be my body type, though, i have an athletic back and shoulders due to years of gymnastics and swimming!) i think those with skinny upper-bodies should be able to pull it off. that medallion print is really nice, though...

as far as the dresses, they only had the twill-tape strap knit dress, which is super-comfy and cute...also cut true to size. i thought the combination of the empire bust and then another gather at the hip would be weird, but it's actually quite flattering (for my body, at least). the knit material is soft and comfy. i almost got it, but i have so many black dresses, it's ridiculous. maybe i'll pick it up later if it goes on sale...

also, i tried on a sort of sheer collarless tuxedo top that's not on the website...it's the one with strips of silk in place of a bib front in a champagne color. it's quite pretty and charming, although the material of the body (a sort of netting) is flimsier that i'd like. still, for $30, it's not so bad, esp. because the cut manages to be both loose yet slim.

overall the materials seem to be of "target quality": nothing incredible but on par with what target usually offers, a little better perhaps. what i like of the pieces i saw were the little details, like the pleats on the tank, or the way that the jacket had military details offset by the unfinished seams and hems. it is definitely on the bohemian side, but not obnoxiously so, and everything is subtle enough so that it should blend into your existing wardrobe really well. i personally love the more neutral color palette. the cuts generally seem to be on the flowy side of things with a slight smallness in the shoulder, so there is a little give and take with the sizing (except of course for the swimsuits.) i think this is definitely the most versatile target go collection; it's not super-fashionista-y, but it's very relaxed and easygoing but still sophisticated enough to be slightly dressy. it should appeal to a nice range of women of different ages, sizes and sensibilities, which is refreshing. i really liked what i saw and can't wait to see more of the print items as well as the strapless blue dress!

That linen jacket is on my hitlist . Thanks for that excellent review nogoodforme.

thanks for the review! It seems like this launch is really awkward.

On the selling out fast and quick or slower but constant selling, i think ultimately any retailers dream is to sell all the pieces and have to discount as little as possible. It depends what kind of turnaround time their factories can give them. If they sell out quickly and have to order more, by the time it arrives the hype could be over, or they may order too much and have to discount a lot.....that said, no one wants the same garments sitting on the shelves for too long. I guess trying to find a balance between them is best.

Thanks for the review! I've found a few pieces I enjoy on their website, but I'll have to take a look in person to see if I will buy them or not.
