Prada S/S 06 Milan

The only piece that I feel is right is the white dress with ruffled shoulder detail next to the dress I just talked about, in the last row of pictures posted, but that´s about it so far...

Wow...I just, wow. My initial reaction is extreme disappointment. It doesn't even look like Prada to me. It's so....frilly. What's up with that???? The Prada look has never struck me as ovetly feminine, but rather womanly without being cliche about it. Oh those ruffles, they're not sitting well with me at all.

Same. I want to see better/bigger pics.

Completely, I can't see details. But I really like the overall feel of what I'm seeing, there might be something for me to wear here. As far as embellishment, this may be a bit more obvious/ornate, but there was still a *ton* of embellishment in the last collection, it just tended to be subtle (e.g., black on black). The luggage trolleys don't bother me, but the way the models are carrying the bags really does. That one full-on side shot with the model's hand grabbing the middle of the huge tan bag looks indescribably vulgar ... if you see what I mean

what is this about? Sexy meets old fashion look meets sports players? I kind of like it though, may be the styling needs help.

It looks quite girlish doens't it. But delicious:-))

I like the shiny hair:-P and the tasty creamy colours theme.

There are always odd things about Prada clothes, so I guess this seasonshe did it with the white-blk combo Tricot pointed out :-))

Really not sure if I like it...... i'll have to look at it all before judging....... but it does seem like a promising collection....

Though I agree with those who said the styling is pretty weird......... But I like one pair of sandals so far..... the rest of the shoes.....

I like some of it, i dont care much for the gaudier looking pieces though, not the prada i enjoy

I don't know what to say about it much, it confuses me to look at it. Those pockets on some dresses were just wrong and some of the stuff makes me think of those golfing clothes. I don't know why.

as someone said, i'll better wait for miuccia's comments and the inpirations she drew from before passing judgement... not liking it so far, looks very allesandro dell'acqua to me for some reason

I don't care what any of you say-_-, I love it!

Besides, what's your beef? It's not radically different for Prada. At all. The eccentric visors make life fun (and just watch, everyone will sport one this summer:innocent:) and the hand-printed dresses are very reminscent of Sander's late work. So?....

^ I dunno, this seems very un-Prada....or at least not the Prada I've grown to know. Last season, that was classic Prada, this just looks so off compared to that.

Edit-

This dress is mildly reminicent of a collection Miuccia did for f/w 97 I believe, the sort of straight, shapeless line done in very airy chiffon that's then layered.

A few of the dresses have a very flapper-y look to them, has anyone else noticed that?

Spike, you should go to the first page of this thread. I gave a little example.

You should look (unless you haven't done so recently) through Prada's collection since say..1999? High-wasted shorts and bra, beige, weird things (like visors)? All Prada's favourites.

For those who've been looking for Miuccia's own comments, there's a quote in the "what ladies like" article that Hanne posted in Designers & Collections. I believe it bears out what Pastry is saying ;)

Anyone have a handle on how those summer boots are made ... fabric midsection it looks like, but what exactly? knit?? have these been done before?

And speaking of what ladies like ... I'm pretty sure it's not baggy tights :yuk:

Yes Pastry, I saw your example, but even though Miuccia has used the high waited shorts/bra combo once or twice before it's not what people think of when they think Prada, beige is too general a thing to say it's a designer's signature, and the visors/weird accessories seem a lot like what Miuccia was doing from f/w 03-f/w 05...

And my comments were really about the whole mood of this collection, light, frilly, girly.....none of those are words I would use to describe Prada.

it's not bad... i too love the way they are holding the bags!!

It's a really beautiful, sweet collection. I'm surprised some of you don't like it. It's very pure and quiet and soft. A vintage Prada show if there ever was one.

The whole collection is on www.catwalking.com, for those of you that have access. I'd post pics but I'm sure style.com will update in about an hour. But for those who wanted to see Miuccia taking her bow...

Prada faces up to the future
By Suzy Menkes International Herald Tribune
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2005

"I want to cancel out beauty, cancel out nostalgia - we don't know where we are now or where we are going," said Miuccia Prada, whose powerful show reflected the complex thoughts of Italy's fashion leader - and sent the runway images in Tuesday's show reflecting in a mirrored space as if to infinity.

The result was a show that put a definitive end to ladylike looks and took Prada back to the weird modernity of its early years, with linear cuts and knife-sharp pleats, mostly at the back. Deliberately off-key accessories, like shocking-pink patent shoes, bright lipstick and wrinkled, over-the-knee woollen hose, made the prettiest summer dress look slightly menacing.

Similarly, stenciled flower patterns and wooden beading were white-washed over, lest they appear in their true beauty. And many of the light-colored summer dresses, their short frilled sleeves slipping gracefully down the arms, had broad black straps at the shoulders, while the most persistent decoration was a grid of lines, as if these dresses had been marked by age and time.

Prada is right when she says we are all attracted to beauty and nostalgia. But the designer is brilliantly effective at capturing the awkward, eerie, jittery present, when women are both glamazons striding out in shirts and shorts and girlish in their desire for pretty, pale dresses. She makes women rethink what is the reality of femininity and the essence of workwear. Big bags held purposefully under the arm , roll-along luggage with Prada's 1913 logo and shoes that varied between high-heeled pumps and bamboo platforms like Chinese footwear put the focus on Prada's essential accessories.

Taken at face value, the clothes, majoring on dresses, were elegant, perfectly made and desirable. But like the wrinkle that gives a face character, there was more to a dress with a raw edge, a strange print or powder blue, pink and peach colors.

Or as Prada herself put it: "The collection has a girly edge - but in the end it is nasty."

An A+ effort, if not A+ results

It's funny how even with the light colours, with the lightness overall, the looks still come across so strongly. There's steel underneath, something unavoidable, whether its the way they hold the bags, how the romance of fabric slipping from shoulders is shut down by two hard straps that won't give you a free peak...and the boots...are those hunting boots? She continues to fuse lots of different ideas about luxury, wearing luxurious things in a very non chalant way, whether by design or construction and certainly seems to be revisiting her work in the 90s, a minimalism that isn't minimalist. These looks will be pulled apart though my heart yearns for a woman who would not only wear it head to toe but would perhaps have the secrets and the experiences to go with such mystery.
