The Costume Institute Gala 2009: The Model as Muse

Karl & Alaia all of a sudden have become superstars by their superiour absence <333333

Seems to me the winners are who refused the ball.

I found them. He wore a silver/gray suit and a dark shirt.

Apparently, Galliano is supposed to be there, but he is not on the red carpet???? That's what he lives for, I thought.

no its better they didnt come cause ignoring something acting like it does not excist is the highest thing to do its like saying we are fashion royalty and they are snobs to Anna and her Team
Completely disagree. It's not like the event suffered because two supers didn't show up. If they were there in their dresses, along with the other women slated to wear Alaia, it would've been like the pink elephant in the room and made more of a defiant statement than just not going. Anna and co. aren't at all affected by it though.

agree completely.
just imagine if the trinity came looking absolutely stunning in his dresses. it would of been a slap to the face to whoever kicked him out. but by him/his creations not being there, it just caused people to completely forget about him.
More than that, it makes him look like a diva who asks other people to get involved on his behalf when he doesn't get his way. He's not wrong for being upset that his work was ignored, but the way he handled it came off as immature and petty.

Phi is getting some love :heart:

Designer Andreas Melbostad will go to bed happy tonight. Models Erin Wasson and Natasha Poly and fashion plates Vanessa Traina and Lauren Santo Domingo all chose body-con Phi looks for their walks up the Met’s steps.

I really wish Tom was there, with Liya and Carmen in his old Gucci dresses!!!!! Wishful thinking.

I am eagerly waiting for the day someone brings his clothes back on the red carpet as precious vintage pieces. Too bad they were all RTW.

Normally people would make time for such an event so that when Christy last weeks said im not going I knew there was something wrong and it felt so cool that she refued the ball like she was more superiour than the ball. So Definitely Karl and those others have their policital reasons....

^The Post may not be as highbrow as the NY Times, but it is definitely not considered a tabloid.
ok point taken, but they do get tabloid-y at times (like with this story)...

anywoo, i was really disappointed with just about everyone...
it's only fitting that the models outshined the celebs...

i stand by my point that everything associated with vogue (and vogue itself) keeps getting worse and worse each year. there were only a handful of ladies who really hit it out of the ball park, the rest were mediocre and many were under dressed for a gala, even if they did look nice. anna w, you are the demise of fashion in america.

Alek was a goddess, but then again, she always is.

Daria and Gisele too. The rest... most have been much better last year and the year before that.

^ I would hardly use the words "Anna" and "just an editor" in the same sentence, FashionTopFace.

Clearly she wields enough power for her decisions to be able to piss off such an iconic designer.

And I don't know what this Karl/Azzedine link that keeps being mentioned is. Was it posted on some reputable site that Karl didn't go in support of someone he can't stand? Did I miss when hell froze over?

Karl probbaly had something else to do. He doesn't strike me as a person who would feel uncomfortable about anything and any event about contemporary fashion, unless it is a PETA event of something. He has a good sense of humor, and he is above all at this point. He does whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

People do not realize that the guy is almost 80 years old. Most people his age are not as mobile as he is. It is absurd to expect him to be that active right now. Just becasue he looks the same all the time with his shades and puny tail people assume that he is like 50.

I can understand why he wouldn't show up, just for a night in NY, when he has other things to do.

Something is up with Alaia; Marc also confirmed it. Naomi has her own issues with Anna as we know it. And Linda and Stephanie may not feel obliged: they have done a million of these events as it is.

Christy said that she was not going to make it, like weeks ago. But where are some real A-List celebs; that is what I want to know. Or names like Amber, Stella Tennant, Erin O'Connor etc...

I agree with both Zann and Spike. Sure it's not OK that Alaia was excluded from the exhibit, but...yeah...the Trinity walking in together, linked arms, all looking INCREDIBLE in Alaia would have been the ultimate in revenge and glamour.
The Trinity's absence will make our hearts and memories grow fonder long after this pseudo cultural, grossly commercial spectacle fades away. Alaia's muses, Grace Jones as well, would have been the true exhibition. Lest we forget the Alaia retrospective at a Soho gallery about 10 years ago? He paid hommage to his muses way before this Jacobs/Wintour/Koda imitation.

^ Yup- Karl has a Cruise show in Venice next Thursday and then they're off to do the Paris/Moscow Pre-Fall show again in Moscow..I think he has enough on his plate right now... B)
