The Costume Institute Gala 2009: The Model as Muse

WOW Sasha  every bit the muse :woot:

love the understated sexiness of Daria  lily looks stunning as well!

^^ At the risk of being beaten to death by a tFS Vigilante Squad, I must say I am totally over Marc Jacobs...tired of it all, sick of the tasteless LV stuff, hate Anna's fawning...Must run to turn on the alarm system...

there really weren't any big-name A-list moviestars there this year.

i mean, last year, didn't we have George Clooney and Julia Roberts??

no Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johannson, Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, etc.

i suppose none of them are "models" or are particularly affiliated with the fashion industry - but they've all done campaigns of some sort at one point in time, haven't they?

also --

ANY PICS OF THE MEN?!?! i know a fashion event is all about the women, but what about the MALE MODELS as muses??

no Tyson, Marcus? no Sean, Eugen, Garrett, Andres?

PARTY POLITICSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Big-name designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Azzedine Alaia, and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are also staying home, possibly because Marc Jacobs has already commandeered the event by buying up at least two tables and by dressing Moss, Madonna and Kerry Washington.

uh what?
if you've read through this thread, azzedine was not asked to attend (and his model muses boycotted) and D&G had other plans....

Best:
Gisele
Chanel Iman(Wow some times two wrong,Chanel Iman and Zac Posen can mae a right)
Alek Wek
Iman
Blake Lively(She pulls it off)
Ashley Olsen
Kate Bosworth
Emma Roberts(Miley watch out!!!)
Ciara
Heidi Klum
Claudia Schiffer

Worst:
Agyness(****** Marilyn)
Helena Christensen(80s Prom)
Rihanna(I know you're craving attention but this outfit isn't the way to do it)
Tyra Banks(We all know the dress is ,but the hair looks like dog poop)
Rachel Weisz(WTF?No,just NO)
Madonna(It's official kabalah makes you crazy)
Leighton(Even she knows she looks bad)
Katy Perry(superhero was last year theme)
Mary Kate(I guess it was Ashley's night to be the pretty twin)
Cindy Crawford(HOLY ******!!!)
Jessica Biel(What a waste of a beautiful dress)
Kate Moss(Ralph Lauren SS08 called,apparently you stole Ubah's outfit)

The photographer who made the troika of beauties household names, Steven Meisel, will also skip the party. Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, who runs the annual fund-raiser, seemed to know that famously reclusive Meisel would be a no-show when she wrote her "Letter From the Editor" in the May issue, in which he's profiled.
"I have only one regret about Steven. Years ago, he used to go out, have fun and sparkle at night," Wintour wrote. "The more successful he has become, the more he has sequestered himself; and it's sad . . . he's such an inspiration, and he's missed."

Iris Strubegger outfit, she looks amazing in Givenchy Couture hopefully pics from the event will appear soon!

Anja Rubik
Marion Cotillard

Decent:
Rachel Bilson
Claudia Schiffer
Kate Beckinsale
Selma Blair
Ivanka Trump
Ashley Olsen

Overall, what a hot mess of a night :(

IMO, Chanel Iman was the best dressed last year and this year, she's a disappointment even though I LOVED that Zac Posen dress on the runway.

Lackluster is the word I would use.

I suppose the economy really affects things. There is no other explanation, since even last year's ridiculous theme gathered so much more amazing names and truly stunning gowns one after the other. And this year was supposed to be pure fashion... where is it?

I like Claudia, Shalom, Daria and Sasha. Kate Moss, it is obvious, officially started the plastic surgery... i am guessing injectibles to be more accurate.

All the actresses look awful or boring. And this whole event feels so B-List, all around. I don't know why, but the lack of A-List names really affects how things look. Cindy, maybe the biggest supermodel of all, looks terrible. Gisele looks like a drag queen. To angular tonight. Tyra can go back to whatever circus she came from. All the old supermodels look terrible. The Olsens are awful and less-than as usual.

Where are the young/hot actors? I am happy that Kirsten and Bosworth are there, but where are Keira, Natalie, Scarlett, James Franco, Orlando Bloom? Any one of them?

But more importantly, where are the actual designers to whom models became a muse for?? They are the ones who made these girls. No Karl, Galliano, Tom Ford, McQueen, Nicolas, Alber... But we have some Gossip Girl actors, so that is great I suppose!?!?! This Gala is too pitiful.

I expected Ricardo with MariaCarla, Tom with Liya and Carmen etc. A true celebration. Maybe it is true what they say; that Marc is not liked by a lot of his peers. Maybe that is the reason many of them did not attend??? I mean, how difficult is it to fly to NY for one of the most important nights of fashion of the whole year when Anna demands it?

It is funny that Tyra still thinks that she is a supermodel and her style of 'modeling' is still relevant. Pursing the lips, showing the neck... where does she think she is? It is so 90s, it makes me wanna puke.

She is clueless, and she thinks she can teach modeling to young girls. Yuck.

The other thing: everything Marc Jacobs and LV looks ridiculous tonight. Madonna, Posh's shoes... Don't like any of it.

And SJP must have been there... she has been a bigger muse to designers than any other actress or celeb there right now.

I like Claudia, Shalom, Daria and Sasha. Andre Leon Talley is obviously getting fat again. Kate Moss, it is obvious, officially started the plastic surgery... i am guessing injectibles to be more accurate.

SPOT ON.

B-List is certainly what describes the whole feeling of this event. And it's true...for an event meant to celebrate the model as muse...there seems like a strong lack of strong designer/ model pairings on the carpet.

Galliano should have been with Kate Moss, Karl Lagerfeld with Heidi and Claudia, Tom Ford with Carmen, Eugenia, Liya, Rie, Natalia, Tiiu, Julia, Adina, Natasa..., Riccardo with Lara, Mariacarla and Lakshmi, McQueen with Shalom and Karen Elson, Alber with Lily Donaldson, Gaultier with Coco or Erin O'Connor, Lacroix with Lily Cole...

...that's what this red carpet should have been about. Not...Rihanna or
