The Costume Institute Gala 2009: The Model as Muse

After going through all the pictures on style.com I have come to the conclusion that everyone wearing either MJ or Louis Vuitton look like train-wrecks. Therefore the common denominator here is Marc Jacobs himself :ninja:. Not sure what was going on but none of the girls were able to successfully pull off the looks.

Hmmm. Leighton looked like she had a lot of fun with a bottle of Jack Daniels while watching a Shirley Temple marathon before she picked an outfit. That girl needs to take her GG stylists with her EVERYWHERE.

Best : Caroline Trentini, Blake Lively, Natasha Poly, Daria Werbowy, Gisele, Diane Krueger, Anne V., Anna J.
Worst : Madonna and Leighton Meester!

I'm not sure if I like it or not, but Kirsten's dress is interesting. Who is it by?
while your predictions keep getting better and better darlin, you're memory is not doing so well lately -_-

c'est chanel, of course! she also wore a dress from that same collection for the oscars. i must say this one looks 100times better on her

Seems like royal blue dominated the evening. :glare:

So many gorgeous outfits this year, though I think a majority of the models, who have all the freedom to pull anything off, played it a bit too safe for me.. too many mini Balmain-esque dresses, booties/strappy sandals and bed hair.. Anne, Natasha, Daria, Lara, Maryna, Anja, Stam, all wrapped in the official model uniform looked like they belonged in catwalks only and had zero experience on working a red carpet, except as the guest of a guest.

My favorite of the night was Miranda Kerr, she looked every bit the muse despite being hardly a catwalk favorite, to wear such a tricky dress with so much simplicity and elegance.. now there's a true model, for me.

Another favorite was Kristen McMenamy in Givenchy couture  , totally channeling the Tisci woman with the gothic makeup and hair..

Stella Tennant in vintage Helmut Lang was pretty cool, too. also Angela in Sander, Trentini and Shalom looked outstanding in their own unique way.. I like confident women who are not afraid of fabrics.

Lauren Hutton, Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst, and Doutzen all looked very classic.. but still so good.

I was disappointed with Natalia Vodianova's choice.. she has excellent taste but looked almost rushed last night.. like something she put together before the limo left for the event.

Madonna.. I got second-hand embarrasement when I saw her in motion. can we say midlife crisis now?. she's totally channeling that weird uncle that must've been devastatingly cool in his 20s but that is now 50 and is convinced he's still got the moves.

Wondering what happened to Anna Selezneva.. Carine.. Ghesquiere.. Gainsbourg?. the french elite. did they also sided with Alaia and decided not to attend?. bah.

**thanks for the id, borja. I love it when celebrities pick dresses from other seasons.

Im very dissapointed with Dra. Lisa Airan!

So far, I love:

Ashley Olsen
Claudia Schiffer
Natasha Poly
Blake Lively

I personally think that Karlie Kloss was looking really amazing. The stunning Nina Ricci dress was the best choice for her :crush:

The more I see Diane's Chanel dress, the more I love it. I'd move her from my personal 'middle' section to the 'best' section.

i believe someone else wore a dress from that very same collection too!
as much as i like her outfit, and people who have worn "vintages" (if that's what they are...) to the gala, i think now more than ever the houses should try to put celebrities in brand new stuff!! how can you send people the message that they can shop-their-closet when you should be saying buy-buy-buy?

Worst red carpet EVER! :yuk:

The only persons i really liked were Lou Doillon and Daria.

The hideous ones in no particular order were Kate Moss, Madonna, Cindy, Rhianna, Helena and that girl from Gossip girls that i can't remember the name, but I'm sure you know who i'm talking about because it's truly bad, if that ensemble is not universally hated i will lose faith in humanity.

this was a joke, really.
did they look at themselves in the mirror before going through the door??
Leighton, madonna, tyra, victoria, kate... and rihanna, i hope she didn t think she made a comeback in that outfit???!!!
and those hideous Marc shoes.
a nightmare, let s hope next yr s better

I managed to get through 72 pages of this thread before getting tired lol. Personally I adored Shalom Harlow and feel that she embodied the theme of model as muse. Her choice was daring and she carried it with grace and elegance. My second choice is Coco Rocha. Not as daring but also elegantly beautiful.I also loved Iman. Honestly I don't get the praise of Kate Bosworth. I found her dress to be dark and heavy. She is young and fresh and should have worn a shorter, lighter colored outfit. Most of the other outfits were very boring or inappropriate and like a previous poster, I am so over Marc Jacobs. I won't even comment on Madonna...
