US Vogue February 2009 : Blake Lively by Mario Testino

Mad Cap World is lovely! Great job to Meisel. The clothes in the ed are also yummy. I think I will buy Vogue US for once.

And I think Blake looks lovely. I normally don't like her in photographs, but she looks great all done up here.

Thanks you so much for all your scans, Luxx!

The cover looks beautiful, it's not sensational but it catches my eye!

The casting inside is pure genius! Liya, Catherine, Coco, Karlie, Jourdan, Katrin, Viktoriya, Anna J, Natasha...

Meisel's editorial looks sensational, not a single shot I dislike... My favourite has to be the one with Anna J and Natasha only  I've said it before but Natasha looks so great when she's shot by Meisel, I'm glad the hiatus is over!

I wish I had a copy of this image without any text whatsoever. It's flawless as far as I'm concerned.

Looks flawless indeed. Since it was shot by Meisel you know it's gonna show up on Art&Commerce in a few months :brows:

Beautiful ed, thanks for posting. :flower:

I surprisingly like the cover though I don't think it looks much like Blake- when I first seen the cover I thought of Gretchen Mol. Nevertheless nice cover.

Sure I would love for Vogue to always put celebrities who I think are deserving on the cover such as Toni Collette who's new series (The United States of Tara) should be a big hit judging from the pilot episode I've already seen. Meh. I might not care for certain cover subjects but I'll still purchase a magazine if the contents are good.^_^

Thanks to all who have posted. :flower:

i dont like her but its not an "its the end of the world cover" except for the banner and text overload which occur in US vogue every mth. i like the eds

Somehow I missed this thread until just now and I've been on TFS a ton today/yesterday... I need to get my eyes checked.

Regardless, I am LOVING this issue. To be honest, I liked the January cover too. So far 2009 is a good year for US Vogue. Blake may not be DESERVING of a cover, but at least she's someone different from the usual crew? The image is lovely, and that's the most important part to me.

And thanks for the scan of Caroline, Luxx!

oh gosh  i really don't get why you people call leighton more cover deserving than blake, after you say blake is just in some random teen show... isn't leighton in the same show?:innocent: btw, i don't really see a big difference in their acting skills.
personally, i love both of them and think both of them are really beautiful.

Leighton Meester should be the one on the cover! Plus, why have they photoshopped her mole like that for?

If this is true, all I have to say is...it's about time! I would love to see more TV stars, first of all the public relates to them better because they see them weekly and movie stars just don't seem to be selling covers that well lately. At least for Vogue...

I'd love to see: Anna Paquin (True Blood), January Jones (Mad Men) maybe with Jon Hamm, Rose Byrne (Damages)...there's a lot to choose from.

I think the reasons for Blake not "deserving" the cover can be summarised as:
- she's had little acting experience
- the stuff she has been in are crappy teen fluff.
- despite Gossip Girl being a relatively bad teen show, she is the pits and pretty much the worst actor on what was already a kind of crappy show.
- despite Vogue's heavy promotion of her "style"; from the Golden Globes dress, and anytime else we see her, it's pretty clear she has ZERO style whatsoever.

The main reasons for resentment are:
- Basically there are LOTS of talented young actresses out there, who are doing critically acclaimed and challenging roles, who are dignified and elegant, who rock a red carpet frock and STILL DONT GET RECOGNITION. (it's the unfairness of it all).
- See: Amanda Seyfried, January Jones, Evan Rachel Wood etc....
- Blake Lively's meteoric rise to Vogue coverdom is due to her AMAZING publicity/PR/Managers. I mean a not long ago she was looking craptastic on the cover of Seventeen or Teen Magazine.

Now the reasons why everyone loves Leighton Meester?:
- No one is saying that Leighton deserves a Vogue cover either, i for one would fall off my chair if she did get a major cover  BUT.
- BUT. Leighton looks consistently gorgeous in her eds and candids,
- She's very underrated with very little recognition from mass media, while Blake is glorified (it's kind of like Mischa Barton/Rachel Bilson non?)
- Leighton might be appearing on the same crappy show as Blake, but where as Blake drowns in the mediocrity, Leighton is consistently the BEST actor on the show- elevating the horrible writing and plot with her acting.
- tbh, i think she's just more likeable and comes accross as less publicity hungry.

HOWEVER my reaction to the cover?
- do i like Blake? Hell no.
- do i think she deserves the cover? Absolutely not.
- do i think the cover looks good? YES.

And at the end of the day, i like the editorials and enjoy Miesel etc inside. I absolutely understand the Blake hate, i share the same sentiments. But i think Anna's really stepped up with this issue, and made a decent Vogue with some amazing editorials. :flower:

This is definitly one of the best issues of Vogue US in a long time..

I am actually excited to pick up this issue!

And you know, i dont get the snobbish "TV star on the cover of Vogue" behaviour, its soo ugly, and reflects peoples character. Its a bloody fashion magazine at the end of the day, and we are living in times when being a TV actor is no longer looked up as less worthy. Some TV shows/movies in the last few years have been faar better than mainstream theatrical releases.

And i am biased because i always love good TV shows with all my being, but the fact is, Vogue had previously featured notable Tv Stars on their covers, people like Farah Fawcett and Jacyln Smith or Debra Messing in 2003, so i think its wonderful if Wintour is turning away from only A-list actresses.

I 'ed EVERYTHING you said.

Well put, and I TOTALLY agree.

Uh what's the purpose of finding a really bad pic of Blake and then saying it's a miracle? Um it's called she's not making a dumb face...geeeez

anyways! blake looks GREAT on the cover, like totally fabulous. I always thought she looked good on the show but not usually in pictures so it's refreshing
:)

madcap editorial is truly stunning...love everything about it, so gorgeous!!!

Yeah, there is a lot more quality television now than there used to be. I mean I get the criticism of Blake, it's funny someone mentioned Gretchen Mol in passing because the hoopla over her getting this cover reminds me of when Gretchen got the cover of Vanity Fair 10 years ago because they thought she would be a big star. That didn't happen but still...it was a beautiful cover. LOL

I do hope this ushers in a change, so far Vogue hasn't had any predictable cover stars for 2009 and we all know next month is Michelle Obama.
