US Vogue February 2009 : Blake Lively by Mario Testino

^^That is soo true, i remember that VF cover with Mol, and then her career didnt go places as expected, and i understand why the criticism over Blake, and think some great points have been made here (specially by ponytrot), but at least i do like the cover. So i hope 2009 is a good year for US Vogue, and they do some changes, and please while you are it, lose the damn banners!

I like that Vogue US is taking more risks, reaching out to a younger crowd, maybe they realized that we do have buying power too. And I might be able to match a name to every face among Meisels' blonde barbies too. Blake Lively isnt too bad too, we all know how UN-photogenic she is. So I dunno, do I like this because I like the direction Vogue is going and I want to support it? It's not any better than anything VI or VP is churning out.

But, LOL at all the "why can't it be Leighton" tantrums. Why does her name have to be attached every time Blake's name comes up?

And I remember Gretchen Mol, at that time, she played the girlfriend of Leonardo di Caprio and Matt Damon in 2 separate movies where both actors were just part of an ensemble cast (was it rounders and celebrity? any way, both actors were at the peak of their popularity) and that was the basis of the VF cover. I dunno how you can beat that in the "plucked out of nowhere category", but she did look great in the cover, I think.

The shoot is nice and all but whenever i see Albert I can't help but think of The Pierces's songs about him :innocent:

Luxx as always, your scans are wonderful, i think its a perfect Vs day edit aswell, and love his quote, of course i dont follow her so had no idea who her bf is, and must say he is a cutie.

This is a fantastic issue of US Vogue!! The editorials look amazing.
I'm not complaining about the cover either, but I just hope to see Leighton on it soon! :p

I'm loving all the teenybopper passion surrounding the cover .. at this time and type of publication, it's kind of disappointing to read the disappointment cause by the lack of intellectual pretense of Vogue editors, like we never saw Paris Hilton for VP or Nicole Richie for VI.
Also funny to see heroic Leighton causing yet another debate on why she's better than Blake, like it's really hard for fans to get over the fact that the show only runs from 8 to 9 and ba boom, it's over.. she's not Blair, okay?, her resume is irrelevant just like Blake's, and despite common belief, her real 'sense of style' consists of safe, D-list worthy cocktail dresses and not Audrey Hepburn-inspired fashion, and, playing a bitchy character is actually easier than playing a well-behaved, generally sympathetic one.

thanks for all the scans, Luxx.
The Dolce Vita shot is an amazing one, so rare to see such a beautifully composed picture with new models in US Vogue.. it's kind of promising, I just hope they don't overuse them in the months to come.

I hate how Albert resembles Bob Dylan in some of these pictures.. it's a lovely editorial, I admit. -_-

Blake IS liked and popular to the mainstream public whether we like it or not . ok not to EVERYONE but to quite a few enough to sell many magazine covers :p the people [celebrities] that are adored and praised on tFS usually aren't as favoured by the public or that famous , just saying seriously ^_^:p

ouch! that's abit harsh? :flower:

I think Leighton fans just feel they have to shout louder to compensate or something.

I don't get why Leighton should warrant a Vogue cover either. Frankly none of the Gossip Girls do, but i suppose in terms of likeability Leighton>Blake. But the end of that discussion.

I particularly love the Dolce Vita ed, i can't stand Agyness but her ed looks really good too.

All in all, top effort by US Vogue! :woot:

i'm perusing through the thread again, frankly there's nothing to hate!

The photography and the eds are ZOMG relative to how Vogue US was before,

It's a Madcap World looks Vogue Italia worthy, seriously just beautiful. :woot:

La Dolce Vita is totally chillax.

hell even Blake's editorial looks good!

and in light of this

I don't think either of them are Vogue material, but I was more outraged by some of Vogue's previous choices (Spice Girls, Melania Trump, Britney Spears, Lisa Marie Presley-twice).

i don't think i can complain about the cover choice either.

The Agyness and Albert pictures are really stunning :heart: I never thought I'd see a Stroke modelling in a Vogue editorial though

She looks really VERY photoshopped *yucks*, but I like the dress and If you don't look into her face it's actually a nice cover, very fresh.
Thanks for posting!

This is an excellent issue overall. Really well executed....maybe the best mag of February overall, well, lets see what VP can gather up.

Why is that banner at the top there? It's not a cereal box.

She'll be completely irrelevant in a few years

Yeah I don't quite understand the need for that red tag across the title. It totally throws off the concept of the title.

Great cover tho, hopefully it will stay consistent with new faces and not the same old faces. hopefully we'll see more daring covers :flower:

Thanks! I thought the fuss over Leighton's alleged "acting skills" was a bit much when she's in a show like Gossip Girl. Lively's bf had it more or less right when he said that he could do the role in his sleep. And she always, always looks underwhelming (if not downright low-rent) as Meester after they take out all the extensions and return the nice clothes. Lively has no better style but at least she herself doesn't look like the "Before" in a makeover when she's off the GG set.

This Vogue seems to be a pretty decent issue. Those ODLR pumps in Agy's ed are to die for.
