US Vogue February 2009 : Blake Lively by Mario Testino

She actually looks kind of pretty, but why is a gossip girl star on the cover of vogue?

This cover is stunning in my eyes
This tops last year's february cover..
The content is amazing and natasha
is finally back in US Vogue..of course since
Meisel is shooting n she is rumored to be his muse

Why her and why not Leighton? Leighton is far prettier -- did you see her in tonight's episode, wearing the little black dress while she was waiting to have dinner with Chuck? Va-va-voom!

Blake looks kinda like the singer Jewel. :yuk:

I like the cover, I don't care about Blake but she looks really good not smiling.

Is that Natasha's first time in US Vogue since jan 05? :woot: anticipation.

she looks good, but it makes me realize why i canceled my vogue subscription, undeserving actresses who can't pose. vogue could at least put chloe sevigny or someone with actual style on your cover, it is a fashion magazine. but alas they stick to dull actresses like blake, angelina and the rest of the lot that they keep putting back on the covers

interesting that the sims ed and the meisel ed have almost the same girls...interesting and intriguing...:woot:

i pray that agyness and albert don't become vogue's new version of natalia and justin...:ninja:
thank for luxx for the review...

yes leighton looked gorgeous on this show
i prefer her over blake and blake looked horrible
at the Golden Globes but i cant contradict wat i said
b4 because the cover is lovely

I think a lot of the discontent is possibly arising from the fact that Blake isn't such as an established actress (or, to some, a person who can act at all), there is the belief that she is not really deserving of this cover, and there are many other powerful actresses who would be much more deserving of such a prestigious cover. My thoughts are that it is a little unfair and a bit undeserving for Blake to earn such a significant cover for one of the world's most best selling fashion magazine. As Miss Dalloway said early on, maybe putting Blake on the cover of US Vogue was Anna Wintour's reply to people who says she is disconnected with the younger generation. Right now, Gossip Girl is making waves everywhere. I know on Fox 8 in Australia, when there is a one screen promotion of Gossip Girl, its Blake who's there, not Leighton, or Jessica or Taylor. For some reason, I don't get why Leighton isn't there as well, but it's not my decision. Wintour wants to tell people she is 'supporting' the up and coming generation, that she knows whats terrible 'in' right now? ..Well, who better than Blake?

I think in all honesty that this year Vogue is trying to give some new faces a shot at covers. We just had an Anne Hathaway cover and she's never been on before and now Blake who is very new and yet completely riding the wave of success. Is she the most deserving person? Probably not but what constitutes that really? After years of the same people over and over again I'm ready for some change! New faces, fresh talent! I think the time is right for it. Will it always work? No. Will it please everyone? Hell no but at least Vogue is pushing a little bit away from the murk and the mire they've been stuck in for years.

It's my hope that they continue to give new actresses (and maybe even some models) a shot with covers. Plus I feel like Leighton is now catching up to Blake - she just got her first Teen Vogue cover (Blake went down that road before if we remember) and she's gaining momentum with publicity. If the issue boils down to Blake vs. Leighton I've no doubt that one day Leighton will be in the same position if the show continues to be popular.

meisel + natasha poly again?? very interesting.
"perfect harmony" sounds extremely unnecessary. couldn't they make a valetine's day ed with a female and a male model pretending to be a couple? or, maybe, just feature any other couple?...

If I'm going to read the name Anna Maria Jagodzinska another time in any important review I might throw off. I like her but I don't like her that much and if there is a multigirl editorial in a magazine she has to be there?

If it really is Katrin in the editorial, then I'm looking forward to this.

And even if I don't like it I'm also intrigued about Viktoriya's and Natasha's start in US Vogue by Meisel (even if Natasha was in this before). And what's up with Karlie?

Where's Caroline? :(

:woot:
Ever since I found out about Natasha I'm officially excited for this issue!

What's the point of using seemingly ten girls in one story and nearly the same ten in another?! I feel like if I see the same typical Meisel girls together again I might throw up. I mean seriously- 2007 gave us Meghan and Coco endlessly, 2008 was Agnete and Kamila, and now it's Anna J., Viktoriya, and Katrin (and it's looking like maybe that with a shot of Karlie). I don't really have any problems with these girls (I love some of the featured models), it just seems over-the-top to have them in every edit. If they're going to bring us some change, at least do so with variety and excellence, not repetition.

Now here's to crossing my fingers this gets scanned in quick so we can finally see the content!!!

haters can fall back, she looks absolutely stunning on the cover, and thanks for review Luxx I can't wait for it to arrive! It does sound as delicious as Magnolia cupcakes ^_^

Well said.

Personally, I care about two things and two things only. One, the cover is beautiful. Simple as that. And considering that I'm usually left baffled by the choice that Vogue makes for the cover image when there are better images in the ed, this cover gives me hope. Two, it's someone new. Is she the next Meryl Streep? Who cares? Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson aren't amazing actresses either and yet most of the complaints about them weren't that they were "undeserving" of a cover but that they've had too many repeat covers. And even considering that, I can't recall seeing such vitriol spewed towards most of Vogue's cover subjects. So I honestly can't say I get the hatred towards this girl. Dislike her, that's fine, but seriously, she's not quite the anti-Christ.

And, it may be shallow of me (this is fashion we're talking about at the end of the day) but the most I can honestly demand of a fashion mag cover is that the person on it looks good. I think that's certainly been achieved here.

I'm so tired to see Lively in fashion magazines covers!!!!!

The cover is ugly :yuk::sick: and the editor puts she cover, because is pure publicity and she believes the "Superstar" but not, i think she lacks more personality and becomes a good actress.

I'm interesting just for the eds and i don't the cover and after who appears in the US Vogue in the future.... Miley Cyrus?

Please. Blake is so awesome ! Adore her style , and her personality is so down to earth. She deserves this cover.

Wow I cannot believe the credit Vogue is getting with their 'new' cover choices.

I don't know if you guys have noticed by what generally happens is that W Magazine (the lesser-selling magazine compared to Vogue) 'test-runs', if you like, new girls to front their covers. If these covers sell well, US Vogue then gives those same girls later covers.

Anne Hathaway and Blake Lively are too girls manifest of this process.

People are under the assumption that US Vogue is choosing 'new faces' but really they are recycling women who have been test run at W Magazine (Vogue's sister publication) and who will bring them a profit, which is ultimately their sole focus.

Furthermore, its disappointing that the same girls are recycled time and time again. Even when new models are introduced into the cycle; they are no different from the legions that came before them. Anna J for example, as much as I love her, is not what you would call a new 'unique' face.

But she looks like 40 years old, she is not pretty, she is not talend, etc. and i hope to see the eds, and this cover sucks.
