US Vogue February 2009 : Blake Lively by Mario Testino

At this point, putting an 'actress' [and I use this term very loosely here] like Blake Lively on the cover of Vogue is frankly embarrassing.

I thought that ditching models on the cover was so that Vogue could give 'regular' women who have made some kind of achievement in their lives, a chance to grace the cover. What exactly has Blake Lively 'achieved' other than the status of a popular-culture icon? Surely, it can't be for her roles or her fashion sense.

If Blake Lively got a US Vogue cover, then why didn't Mischa Barton? At least Barton had appeared in some decent films and was to some extent a fashion 'icon'.

Besides; Gossip Girl is the worlds most stupid show. Why would Vogue choose to be associated with something so unintelligent?

i hate it...it's horrible...it could have been so much better..

Don't worry, her chances of becoming a serious actress are close to zero. Just look at how Misha Barton is a thing of the past and have yet to score a major role since The OC ended. Will Smith is pretty much the only actor who have emerged as a big star out of a TV-show, he's amongst the top earning film stars. All other actors/actresses from the same background have ended up as vapor. So don't worry about Blake distressing your life in the near future.

Let's not forget George Clooney and Leonardo di Caprio. Jennifer Aniston could manage it if she got a new agent/PR. Nevermind Apatow and the cast of "Freaks and Geeks" racking up serious box office these days...:innocent:. Not even to mention all the British actors who pretty much all started out doing something on tv. Hardly vapour...

So! Don't stash away those Blake Lively nightmares yet.

The cover is nice for US Vogue but like someone else said they've gussied Blake up to look like a poor man's January Jones. I don't see the point of that.

Well, in good old Germany there is no such thing as a Blake Lively and so I'll take this as a pretty cover of a pretty girl. Does she have different eye colours? Looks like that somehow.
As for intelligence. Vogue US has never been the most intellectual Vogue. Deutsch and Italia operate on a entirely different level. So, I buy it for the good fashion pages and eds, not for the stimulating read.

^^Well i have to very much disagree with that, i think US Vogue under Wintour has amazing content (not talkling about fashion lol), fantastic articles by good journalist's like Jonathan Van Meter,Joan Juliet Buck and many other big names that have written for the magazine in its history. So after i ignore Marina Rust's new hair revelations, or Plum Sykes thoughts on brooches, there is tons of fantastic beautiful articles in almost evey issue, imo of course.

it just came to my mind that Hillary Swank started at Beverly Hills 90210 (and not even at leading role!) and look at her now - 2 Oscars
I don't think that it's the case for blake Lively, just random thoughts!

and by the way, even if they already decided to put on someone from GG, why didn't they take leighton meester? her style as blair waldorf is so much more interensting imo

omg....shock....:blink::blink:.....I've always said that she just needed a good hairstylist!!!! yay for that...it's the first time I like her hair....

I don't love or hate her....but she looks pretty good here..I don't care the photoshop these days...the colors are pretty nice and summery I like that..

I can't say it screams young, edgy or cool like Anne V's Vogue latinoamerica cover but it's definetly a step forward for us vogue...I hope we'll see more diferent faces this year...someone said Amy Adams...I say yes to that..and someone like Maggie G....or someone interesting...I don't want more Natalie boring Portman...or Sweetheart Reese...I want fresh talented faces....but I'm asking to much in too little time...

oh and :rofl:LMAO at the cereal box commenet.

thank you, Luxx, for making me have a little bit of fun here...
i just don't care about US Vogue's covers anymore... this one could be worse. blake lively is a bad actress, but whatever, when good actresses get the cover, most of them are airbrushed beyond recognition anyway... i just think that, if they wanted to make a gossip girl month, they should have done the inverse: blake on the cover of teen vogue and leighton on the cover of vogue, since the latter is less annoying. anyway... i'm just curious to see the contents.

God,She looks good and the cover is... good(and I was expecting total uglyness on that cover)
Its the best cover of US Vogue I've seen since Kate Boshworth's cover(also february, maybe the put the best effort in this month and then give up on the others lol)
too much text but I it would have been weird not to see the text overload!

Good for Vogue! I am not a fan of Blake, but I wasn't a fan of 90% of the "old guard" either (Renee, Keira, SJP). I always complain about Vogue using the same five actresses year after year so, whether I like the new faces or not, I'm just glad that Vogue isn't starting 2009 with stagnant faces.

Anyway, ignoring the "who" for a moment, I have to say this cover is stunning! The dress, the hair, the makeup, the background... it's all perfect. After all that atrocious hair (Keira, Gwyneth), and those boring backgrounds (Kate B., Reese), this is a treat!

agree with this

Haters, y'all might just want to gather to the left because this is the issue of Vogue US that we have been waiting for. I don't want to sell it to you guys because it speaks for itself - it' s not wildly different from what we've come to expect from Anna and co. it's simply better than what were used to. It's the different between a pack of Hostess and fresh baked Magnolia bakery cupcakes.

Brace yourselves.

the model selection is so good! some new girls, and the old girls too! And all the girls are in diverse groups. Not segregated like usually. (like last month)

the feature on agyness and her boyfriend seems so random for vogue us though. you would never imagine the vogue us team would be interested in that.

I haven't been this excited to buy US Vogue since the Kiera Knightly Wizard of Oz issue.

Not a fan of the cover but the eds make me excited now! Two eds by Meisel and all his recent favorite girls!:woot:
And what's with Coco's middle name?

Allow me to clarify.

La Dolce Vita is a beauty edit on strong lip color and is one shot. It's a great shot though.

So there is one Meisel edit and one beauty shot for a beauty article. You could consider it part of the original edit given that yes it features the same models.

I just call Coco, Ginger now that her hair is red. When she goes blonde I'll call her Vanilla. ^_^

And the Agyness feature is for Valentine's day. In case anyone was wondering.

Thanks for clarifying this.:lol::flower:

Yes the cover is over photoshopped like 2/3 of the stuff out there, but I do think its a step up especially for US Vogue. The eds look like they have potential.
