What a surprise. I like it over all, nice to see Ruth!

I wish her head was a raised a little more and the blurred out background in the top left hand corner is just sloppy. Feels fresh however.

Fabulous choice! I love the cover, it feels fresh and pretty. It's also got a festive feel without being too much, I love the mint green background. An excellent start to the new year.

I like the color scheme but not the styling, and I agree about the head but I love her expression. Kudos to Vogue for diversity and for having someone new on the cover :)

Ruth!!! Ah what a fantastic choice!

What a very beautiful cover. Though, she kinda looks like Nicole Richie here? Still beautiful!

And "Optimism" yes Vogue.

Such a great choice, this made my day! Just because Ruth has been working, and for so long without getting that big break! And now with Loving, the most powerful movie of the year (alongside Moonlight), it's just wonderful to see her rewarded like this.

I do VERY resent the blurred background!! My god what is that? What amateur BS is that!!!

The editorial is on the site, the opening image is really strong. The full cover reveals the top is a crop top too, which I wasn't expecting.

^ Ooh the full cover does look different, there is even a sight of belly button haha. I still like it.

love the cover! such a nice surprise for January!

I would have loved that the first pic from the editorial was the cover, the styling is great and more eye catching imo :)

Awh!! How amazing! I mentioned her as a possibility for the cover but I never thought she'd actually get it. She deserves it though.

I kinda like the cover. Her expression is lovely. I absolutely hate the blurred painting in the back though. Makes the image unbalanced.

It's a fantastic cover choice! I assumed she would appear on it sooner or later since she got that rather important feature a few months ago meant to introduce her to the Vogue readers.

I dislike the blurred painting (?) though, couldn't they just photoshop it out of the cover? They do it with everything else, seems odd that they'd decide against it now when you need it.

Amazing and refreshing cover choice, but I wish it was a better image - her pose and expression here makes her look a little unhinged.

Lovely cover, and great editorial. It's great to see a new and young fresh face on Vogue. I don't mind her belly button on the cover.
They should have photoshopped the blurry background though, what an amateur mistake...

Yes, you did! :flower: No way they did shoot her twice though, my guess is her edit was probably done on the same day as the one which we saw with Joel a few months ago.

I love the cover, my only gripe is the gelled hair. Normally I'd have hated on the coy pose, but I love it here. The colours and minimal art direction is astounding, so is the girl. A great way to start the new year.

I wish her head was a raised a little more .

I googled her and noticed she loves this head position. Always poses like this. I have no idea who she is (I'm not into new movies or TV shows, so...), but love seeing an Ethiopian on the cover.

I've just seen her edit on Vogue.com, not one bad shot which is a feat for this magazine. For once everything came together rather nicely.

Since she's wearing S/S '17 in this spread Vogue would have had to shoot with clothes that probably hadn't even appeared on the runway yet - we first saw that Givenchy jacket on Oct 2 while the November issue in which Ruth first appeared came out two weeks later. Or they shot this immediately after PFW which is equally impressive. American Vogue's sway with designers never ceases to amaze me; Shulman would never pull off such a thing if this were really the case.
