US Vogue January 2020 : The 'Vogue Values of 2020' by Annie Leibovitz

OH MY GOD! I'm so happy for Ashley! This is MAJOR!! Her shot is fantastic, she looks amazing!

Pregnant Ashley crossed my mind last night and I must say she look gorgeous in her cover! Greta as well, all three covers are fantastic so far. I'm really loving this return to classic Vogue cover form, despite the questionable new values gig.

Three white women....let’s see who’s next.

There always has to be that one person to point out the racial injustice on every multi cover, eh? It's so tired.

They keep the nipples on Ashley...good job Anna...love her cover...

Stella cover is surprisingly good, but Ashley's cover is less than satisfactory. Shame

I'm quite surprised by how good this is. It all reads very formulaic (Liebovitz, mother with child/cupping belly, outdoor shots) but this is just beautiful. Very impressed with this!

Yes, you're right, because it's an important issue, one that we are absolutely TIRED of having to bring up every time. Representation is important, especially in an extremely diverse nation such as the United States.

In Kites defense; the article on WWD specifically states 'Vogue Values' will be '...standing for the values of diversity, responsibility and respect for individuals, communities and for our natural environment.'
Odd to state 'standing for diversity' in their pledge and demonstrating no diversity while making the pledge?!
derp de derp derp...

I think we should all reserve judgement until we see who scored the 4th cover. However, regardless of the outcome, I believe anyone perusing the pages of US Vogue recently can't deny there is a significant increase in representation for black models, LGBTQ+ subjects, etc. I do actually think Anna is trying to walk the walk. In 2019 Priyanka Chopra, Doona Bae, Deepika Padukone, Zendaya, and Rihanna were all on the cover of US Vogue. That's not counting Adesua Etomi-Wellington and Angelababy on the April fold-out cover and KKW is middle eastern, I think? Is she considered white? I truly don't know what label is ascribed. Overall a massive improvement, in my view.

Since we're making predictions, what about Michelle Obama with Malia and Sasha? She's an author and will be producing content for Netflix, so I think she counts as a creative force. Whoever it is, it seems they must be a big deal if they lumped the Greta and Ashley reveal this morning and is reserving the 4th for a later date. Also she'd make a fantastic 73 Questions subject.

Point, well made!
I'm concerned that in the US market there's a sever lack of patience and extremely short attention spans. If Vogue makes the 'Vogue Values' pledge, people expect an immediate demonstration of such. I don't know if many Americans could remember three of the names you mentioned, let alone to consider the past 12 months or longer in view of including a more diverse cast in the magazines pages, which you rightly pointed out.

I'd bet good money in Vegas you're right about Obama, though. With everything happening in the States right now, would be brilliant trolling by Anna.

Wow since October Vogue has been putting out consistently good covers I hope this will be continuing into next year and the years to come!! Lovely cover, I especially love Greta’s it’s so urethral

For me Ashley’s face is devoid of any emotion. Just a blank stare.
Greta definitely deserved a solo cover.

I am consistently more and more surprised each month, in recent days, at Anna providing.... genuinely beautiful covers. Yes, the diversity is not to par thus far, but I’ll simmer until the fourth cover comes out.

Ashley, if I’m not mistaken, is the first cover model to appear solo on US Vogue since Kendall... congratulations to her. Not her biggest fan but the cover looks great, as do the other two (Greta’s is my personal favorite.)

I could have done without Ashley's cover, but Stella and Greta's are the best covers Wintour has put out in years. Not that the working mom thing is exactly groundbreaking, this isn't 1950.

I can see why people are not on board with what can be interpreted as a working mother theme, but I see it differently. I think the point is that these “creative forces” are helping to create a better world for future generations (represented by their own children in these shoots) by embodying the ethos Vogue is trying to establish, worldwide. Sustainable practices in fashion, inclusivity, etc. it’s all about creating a better world, a better future. Children represent the future. Plus I don’t think US Vogue has overplayed motherhood as a theme, recently. I can’t even think of the last time they featured a child or a visibly pregnant woman on the cover. Considering how motherhood is something that a huge number of women experience and that effects us all, I don’t think it’s played out at all. If anything, it’s the opposite.

Edit: scrolling through the archive, I realize I’d forgotten Serena Williams had a cover with her child 2 years ago. Prior to that, you have to go all the way back to 2003 when Brooke Shields was visibly pregnant on the cover. I rest my case.

Gisele was the last one

Its not a foldout issue. There really are 4 covers

Ashley just did a reveal of her cover issue in print
