Since I love Catherine, I'm happy she got this cover and the editorials. And I agree with Mr-Dale as someone who never got the "unique/weird/alien"-appeal. Only Sasha made it for me since her editorials are great, but I'm glad that "classic" beauty comes back to the business
(btw: Yeah, Snejana has a great and beautiful face, but i think most ppl have a problem with her body. So do I. Otherwise I'd love her to death)

Valentina fits the bill too. I think it's a travesty to compare any of them to whatever Catherine's appearance is supposed to represent ( which to me anything except "classic"). I find her hardly attractive with her oddly spaced eyes and her mile long chin which accompanies her incredibly heavy jaw
Judging from those previews and various other images I've seen of her it looks like she won't live up to all this hype. In a way she's disadvantaged because she has alot to live up too so to speak. As for her starting some kind of a "revolution'' good luck to her fighting the powers that be Supreme/Women management or Muiccia Prada's casting director

I don't think anyone's saying she shouldn't have a succesful modeling career. None of the girls you mention have been the object of this kind of massive hype. I guess that's what people find annoying, the way Catherine's being hailed as the next supermodel without having proved much of anything.

Personally, I find Catherine quite impressive on the runway, but I even't seen any print work that impress yet. She tends to look like she's in drag, to be honest.

I'm quite curious to see this cover and mega spread, though.

I quite understand what you're saying but then again there are people pinpointing her flaws, for what reasons? I mentioned the girls in my previous post only because of the typical beauty stereotype ideal which is completely boring. Her oddly spaced eyes, her long chin et.c make her special I believe.

On the other hand the hype is there for obvious reasons, the insiders know usually what they're talking about. How about Chanel Iman, what has she "proved" to be featured on the USA Vogue over Vlada, Tanya, Iekeliene, Suvi et.c. for instance? Cathrine has to have her break somewhere and in this case it tends to be on the cover of V.

To get back on topic, this seems like a pretty good issue. I'm very much looking forward to the Knight ed with Naomi, and I'm happy to see my favorite newcomer Anabela featured.

Well, to be fair, it's not as though Catherine is a complete newcomer, unlike say Georgia Frost who was thrust into the spotlight and hyped like no other with only a few polaroids and tests to show; Catherine's been modelling for quite a few years here in Australia, and has done many campaigns, editorials, covers and runway here.

I'm aware of that, which is why I think the hype is uncalled for. Her previous work hasn't impressed me at all. But perhaps working with the best photographers in the world, along with some newfound confidence and maturity will bring something more out of her. While I don't care for her look, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Her runway has matured tremendously (and her fall runway season, in itself, I think shows us a part of what her modelling skills are like and that she is capable of great things —although no-one should ever, ever, ever be hailed as the next supermodel), so we can only hope her print work follows.

What contract with Testino does she have? I'm not sure if it prevents her from doing other jobs!

She's on a six-month exclusive with Testino.

I don't think it'll hurt her because of the limited time-frame, let's say 2-3 months left now, and it does to some extent prevent overexposure. But I'm not sure how certain other photographers feel about "waiting in line"? Perhaps Meisel will snub her for being Mario's old muse?

meisel is capable of making relativley unknown models in demand simply by using them in his editorials. i don't know if he would use a girl named "the next supermodel"

doubt it. meisel is all about discovering new models, by the time her contract w/ testino is done she will already be huge and he will probably ignore her because he didn't "make" her

i like catherine and i dont have a problem w/ her being on the cover. sure shes new and they are hyping her, but its not much different than coco being on vogue italias cover right after her runway debute (or snejana before). i think ill wait to see the cover itself before i judge her worthy of it

Sorry about my unknowledge, but I have no idea who Catherine McNeil is. I have to google her name to know what she's look like... so about her "Next Big Supermodel statut"... i'm not sure, but we'll see.
