Valentino Haute Couture S/S 09 Paris

I used to love Valentino. It's like my first fashion memory.
When he retired, I spilled some little tears.
I hated Allessandra Facchinetti's work for the house. I like my Valentino pieces to be non-brainers. At some brands, we just don't need niveau. You would not hire Elbaz to design for DSquared.
But I don't like this either. I payed an arm and a leg to buy me a dress from Mr Garavani's last RTW collection - because it was a Garavani.
Nobody needs these dresses by two accessory designer anymore. There is no prestige, no luxus behind those simply knocked-off dresses, nothing to justify them, no idea.
Close down Valentino house. Please.

My first glance from the picture with the green dress was "wow, gorgeous." I was hopeful.
But, as I looked through-- the flower-like parts to the dresses are in odd places and they are quite massive-- the blue one from the style.it pictuers is a little too big and you can see the outer "petals" are too large and it makes the design look unfinished.
What's even worse though, their attemps at gowns are pretty hideous to me because the overall effect is that it looks large, bulky, and ultimately frumpy. :-/ It's quite a comparison with the more sleek dresses to go to oversized gowns and it doesn't transfer well.
I'm sorry, I'm not impressed, it will take a lot more for me to enjoy Valentino.

I'm serious about this. There is no point to it. It's burning money.

Ok, that green/teal/whatever dress on Karlie looks straight out of a prom catalogue.

What a mess. Someone send those two back to stitching zippers on to purses -_-.

i think they played it safe, and also... they might be going to show more of theirselves one collection at a time, they have potential.

As I expected, with this collection, we're seeing the return of those awful 'Barbie' looks for Valentino. That really awful color pallette, those Barbie evening gowns, the tacky detailing etc etc. It's what Barbie would wear to a Dolce Vita Party! :innocent:

I cringe at the sight of some of these pieces. It's not 'classic' at all; its retro kitsch. Honestly, I don't know why people would bother to pay $$$ for this. It's not unique, special or particularly flattering to a womens appeal.

Alessandra's Couture was special. It might not have been as dramatic as staging it in the Sorbonne - but it was real Haute Couture. The detailing was impeccable. That show had serious WOW factor.

And what annoys me most is how arrogant the Valentino Conglomerate are about this whole Facchinetti business. They can't even treat the woman with proper respect. Shame on you!

Elie Saab anyone?

Very Valentino, but not in a good way. This house is stagnant.
Ouch, even Saab was better this season :ninja:
Now I can seat and wait because I don't think that they're going to stay for a short period of time :innocent:

talent is talent but if you are willing to work for a cheaper price...you are hired. this is so like elie saab but worst. don't always like valentino. a hit and miss when it comes to this.

I don't think its all terrible! Some of the pieces I think are ugly and not sure where they came from, but others are perfect for a Valentino collection. Remember how harsh everyone was with Alessandra when she did her first Valentino collection, and yet now people are saying "bring her back". Maybe we just need to give them a break being that its their first collection. I'm just trying to be nice though. Idealy I'd like someone else there if after a few more collections its not better (Valli anyone?). But I'll bet they make more money off of this collection than they did with any one of Alessandra's.

This is going to sound very melodramatic, but this is absolutely revolting.

Well, at least Alessandra had her own style, she didn't do exactly like Garavani.
Since her first collection for Valentino (pre-fall 08) I knew I would love her designs for this brand. I was so tired of seeing the same thing every season and with the same fabrics :ninja:

it's...... pretty. but that's about it.

it looks like clothes from a 70s movie. not a single trace of modernity. what's the sense?

and guys, please, don't compare Saab to Valentino for this season. Valentino would be lucky to call the Saab collection their own. saturate the colors from the Saab collection and it's a perfect Valentino show. IMO that's frills, feathers and bling done right.
