Versace for H&M

H&M wants you to buy the versace for H&M just not be photographed in the press with them. this is disgusting.

Donatella Versace's line has a tough time fitting regular New Yorkers into its H&M look

Designer's company balks at a photo spread using ordinary women as models

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Donatella Versace may be making clothes for the masses, but she doesn’t want the masses modeling them.
After the Daily News arranged for real NYC women to be photographed wearing looks from the Italian designer’s Versace for H&M line, a rep for the Swedish clothing company canceled the shoot on Friday.
Apparently, “real” doesn’t work for the 56-year-old bottle-blond designer with the bee-stung lips.
The H&M publicist initially explained by email that the “Model New Yorkers” photo feature could probably not go forward because Versace had to approve “anyone who wears the collection for press” — and, she added, “Donatella will likely not approve shooting the collection on real women.”
She was right. When the Daily News writer organizing the shoot sent the publicist photos of two of the three women he wanted to use — all recent college graduates who work in the city — the answer came back that only one was acceptable.
When the News writer asked for an explanation, he was told the woman who was rejected “doesn’t fit [Versace’s] branding.”
That might make sense if the clothes involved were from Versace’s full-priced designer collections, where a metallic brushed-leather biker jacket goes for $5,825 and a wool crepe cut-out dress fetches $2,425.
But one reason designers work with H&M is to make their designs accessible — and affordable — to a less-exclusive crowd. Previous fashion designers who’ve worked with H&M in this way include Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.
“The H&M customer is anyone interested in fashion,” the company’s U.S. public relations manager, Jennifer Ward, told the retail-shopping website Westfield.com this fall. “There is something for every age and personality.”
Versace’s designs for H&M reflect this perspective. Although there are some pricier items — such as a $249 metallic party dress — the line includes a $29.99 pair of leggings that feature a jungle print similar to the famous plunging dress that Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammys.
Versace previewed her limited-edition H&M line at a party and fashion show at Pier 57 on Nov. 8. Although she used the kind of models who don’t resemble typical NYC consumers, the designer told CBSNews.com that she understood the H&M consumer.
“I know this customer,” she said. “I know what they want.”
Now if only she didn’t mind them actually wearing her clothing.
By the way, we’ve decided to stick with our real New York models. Instead of Versace for H&M, they’ll be wearing their own holiday cocktail outfits in the photo feature, which will run on Thursday.
An H&M spokeswoman did not respond to us by our deadline.

What about the online shopping? I live quite far away from H&M, so I am planning to buy a skirt on their online store. Do I have a chance?

They started putting the windows w/ the collection in my town today, everybody wonders how to pull off the crazy prints but I have to say that the clothes look better IRL.

Guys do you really live in such fashionable cities?Lucky you then...because I live in Rome and I can't tell you 99% people in the street are dressed like Terry Richardson (northface jacket, jeans, converse all star)...I honestly don't think they're interested in buying fuchsia suit+shoes or some glittery studded leather jacket

lucy92, WOW . Unfortunately, I feel that fashion gets away with attitudes like this all the time.

It's ironic that she would make a collection with a budget, fast-fashion brand and snub "real" women in the process. Who does she think is shopping H&M for Versace, Kate Middleton and Co.?

Thanks for sharing :flower:!

i saw the womens version of the versace for H&M baseball jacket on the mannequin in H&M's windows yesterday. it looks like its sized very small and you'll need to be incredibly short-waisted to pull it off. looks like a velveteen material.

honeycombchild, would you say the spring womens collection looks a lot better than the current one?

I'm not sure I'd say a lot better, but to me it's more useable? I can see the pieces fitting into looks with denim shorts in the summer etc. It's all one print though, so it's not got the variety that the main collection has. Every piece is printed in that one print. There's a great chiffon piece which I think it really strong, and as a whole it's really very summery in feel.

I've no idea when H&M are lifting the embargo on the images we were allowed to take of the collection, perhaps once this collection is launched I'll be able to show them and talk about it more. Fingers crossed.

Went window previewing on 34th St tonight and I think the jackets look amazing. The shoes look very cheap however.

With all those previews and pre-shopping events: is anyone already able to say how the pieces are taylored in terms of sizing?? I remember the first collaborations, where everything was just HUGE. thanks!

The H&M near my city had their window collection up on Monday, however I was not able to go in and see it on the racks as I was in a hurry. The prints didn't look as ghastly as I had thought of them when I saw the pictures and the dresses look lovely.

I didn't expect this collection to turn up at the store closest to me, although being situated not far from a Primark makes the Versace stuff in the window display look as if the decimal place is wrong in the prices. Maybe they didn't pick the best pieces, but there was nothing on show that would convince me to hang around.

Donatella will herself be launching the collection at the Regent Street store tomorrow morning at 9am..

Accessories are already available in H&M's Germany online shop...
