Vogue France December 2024/January 2025 : Loli Bahia by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

^And some Bourdin, which they have been ripping off from since 2002...

Happy for Loli, the feather trimmed jacket is lovely.

I really want to understand what went wrong with Mert & Marcus. Like... I don't get it. Why are they such poor photographers now? I'm hard on Meisel here, but his current work doesn't make me his entire career in general lol. With Mert & Marcus I'm just confused. Does anyone have any insight into their "downfall"?

I love the cover, it gives me both festive Christmas and fresh January vibes.

Sorry but I’m not impressed with the result at all. I don't want Alastair at VF if he only delivers what looks like i-D redux.

Maybe if they want to achieve that nonchalance attitude, they should look at the new M magazine editorial. That's how you should do it.

I like the cover, not so much with the hair. But it’s pretty good and the contents are nice as well.

that hair does not suit her
That hair does not suit anyone.

There's something very stiff and awkward about the cover and photos from the editorial, they're not very pleasant to look at. It's like no one bothered to put any effort here.

I'd say because she has a gorgeous face, the industry has always been obsessed with models who have an "attractive" face but are mediocre. It's the first impression she gives you. Plus she isn't that big compared to top models like Mika, she's just a favorite of French brands and I can see why.
I need answers not likes 🤣🤣

Oh, really?! Festive? Fresh vibes?
It's funny the different perception. I see absolutely nothing Christmassy about this cover.

Maybe Christmas is a sulky teenager trying to dress older than her age.

Loli Bahia has that rare gift as a model, where nothing she wears seems like it belongs on her. She doesn't inhabit the look, the look wears her. The outfits always feel like they're bigger than her capacity to fill them. If part of modelling is being able to project a mood or a persona, according to the shoot - that part has yet to kick in.

And glamour only works when the person is in full possession of it. If you paint someone's face or dress them up, but there's no animating force from within, all you've got is a living doll.
