Vogue Italia April 2015 : Karen Elson & Christopher Niquet by Steven Meisel

The models in the Emma Summerton story are Josephine le Tutour and who?

Something is off. I mean, I get what Meisel is trying to achieve with the shadow and all, but it looks more like a campaign for a musical theatre or something. I'm not feeling the composition, even the text below, not loving it.

Save for the main ed, everything else is so boring and / or uninteresting. Even the roversi ed is ruined by the terrible styling.

Valery Kaufman.

While the cover is ok, the editorial is more than amazing. Just so elegant and it tells a story. Better than every cover and editorial of Meisel so far this year.

The rest of the magazine is crap like always.

for once, Meisel's ed is the strongest of this issue imo :)

the editorials are certainly a step up from the last few issues. i really love valery and josephine so anything they do is great for me

Decent issue and Karen's edit is simply gorgeous!

is it weird to get reminded of Bette Davis from All about Eve by this cover?

Lol, can see what you mean. Indeed, Karen looks great, but I dont really see Ginger here. I still love it though. Someone posted that this is a 20's look? It's actually vaguely 30's/early 40's. There's a huge styling difference between the periods. Re the rest of the editorials, what happened here?? First VParis now VI too? Has the UK Vogue aesthetic become the setting standard for fashion magazines? All these eds looks THE SAME. Dour, muted and neutral tones. I really hope this wont become a movement, because this only works for Uk Vogue.

tOTAlLy agree! That's the impression I got when I first saw the editorial... They look like snapshots from a film... Doesn't work as a fashion editorial for me... I am surprised no one else noticed..:

The cover's very supplement-issue looking. Would have prefer a little more edge and originality with the styling since it's Karl so that it's more modern high fashion and less traditional-- less Hollywood costume-y.

I think it's a very tricky shot to choose as a cover, so the layout isnt the best, but the actual shot is perfect. More importantly, it serves as an ideal preview to the editorial (Vogue Paris, take note!). While Mon's cover try looks great too, I think that shot gives a more melancholic feel, when the rest of the edit is clearly more upbeat and joyful. You are right about the styling, but I find it captivating and very educational. This is quite a distinct styling trend and to incorporate 'modern' pieces would tamper or contrast against the overall mood. Lets leave all that 'modernizing' stuff to the likes of American or French Vogue. They tend to emphasize the 'how to wear this now' angle much more than actually creating a mood or building a story around a particular trend. I hope I'm making sense, lol.

That Meisel ed is so superior compared to other eds. One of the best eds for me so far this year.

I actually find the main ed quite... absurd. Why would someone want to shoot a whole ed based on something to make it look exactly like the inspiration? Google Ginger and Fred and you get the exact same pictures. No twists at all. That's boring. And I prefer the original photographs... Way more genuine and vibrant.

I can barely see fashion in the ed. And the styling is quite bad. Very cliché.

^Now with the foldout, it got the wow factor it needed. Amazing cover and cover story. It draws me in to another time and place.

I really like the cover and the story too. Makes me think about "The Artist" :) I think Karen looks way better with her red locks, here she looks too bland.

I love the main editorial. Wonderful work. He got the lighting right!
