I don't think Berlin has anything against negative (constructiv) criticism, he just doesn't like his opinions being interpreted in the wrong way, which I can understand

As for WhiteLinen, every time I see a post of hers, it's a rant about how bad everything is, so I understand that some people have grown tired of it...

And about the "I'm sure if it was US Vogue's cover there would be tons of criticism" thing... Come on Miss Dalloway, I may not always agree with you but I think you make good points most of the times, you're better than that kind of silly argument Plus how could this be Vogue US? Where is the boring styling? Cheesy smile? Text overload?

I actually agree with what MissDalloway said.I'm sorry if I'm raising another issue but I always have the impression that whenever there's criticism over VP, there's always a French fan to strongly reject it as if VP couldn't possibly be criticized, as if French fashion and styling were perfect and ideal.I'm sorry but the whole chauvinistic 'Us French we always do it right, we're so bold and stylish' is somehow getting on my nerves (and bear in mind that I'm French).Just as much as I hate extreme negativism and criticism (and God knows that I could be guilty of it) I can't stand blind praising.
By the way, that's not directed at BerlinRocks, it's just a general attitude that I've noticed around here.

Personally, I'm quite admirative of VP's originality and style and it's certainly one of my favourite magazines but so far I haven't bought an issue in 3 months.

^ Um I think you're missing the point completely, I think Numéro has been going downhill lately, and it's a French magazine as far as I know... Some of my favourite magazines include i-D, V and Vogue Italia, and they're not French... So really, nationality is not the issue here. The only great thing about Vogue Paris being French is that I can find it everywhere in France, and it's cheap. I just happen to really love the VP aesthetics: it's sexy, sexual, modern, beautiful, stylish... And for the record, there are plenty of non-French die-hard Vogue Paris fans...
And since we're going down that road, Vogue PARIS is more Parisian than French, and I'm from the south of France

And where did I bring up the whole French/Parisian issue ? You quoted one of my posts, and I happen to be French... That can't be a coincidence
And you didn't bring up the whole French/Parisian issue, but I did: this is called Vogue Paris, not French Vogue or Vogue France, and how many "parisienne" headlines have we seen on the covers? Clearly VP is more Parisian than French, and using the latter adjective is a shortcut for most people... so all I'm saying is: claiming you love VP when you're French is not necessarily chauvinistic, I don't see what I read in VP in the streets of my city, clearly that magazine is a fantasy more than a reality...

but because i don't want people's opinions about my thoughts of this issue to be biased by some comments onto there, i would like to quote myself :

i'm not sure about their sales (though i think they are very good) and their ad pages ... i should do some researchs soon through some old VP i have still under my hands (most of them are now in boxes) ... but what i noticed though i am not sure (i should ask a professional of paper soon, too) is that the quality of the paper and cover has gone just a little ... nothing too big to get noticed but i'm sure they have changed something ...
and to go back to your initial question, this issue opens with 4 double pages of beauty advertising (which i guess means the ad placements have gone a little more expensive for fashion labels, non ?) the back cover is still Dior ....

i have scanned 2 editorials (M&M + Testino) let me the time to edit and upload ...

If we're on the topic of 'editor worship' - speaking generally, I have a theory that the editors who seem to attract the most non-critical worship are the ones who also work as stylists.

I figure that because they have such close working connections throughout the fashion industry - a much closer commercial and personal involvement with the industry than those editors who only edit - that there's an enormous process of mutual backscratching and reputation-enhancing comments. This eventually forms a public reputation that people like us buy into, because if so many fashion industry people are regarding this editor as extra-special, well, she must be extra-special, and we start regarding her work as such.

In short, their friends in the industry hype them up - and then everyone else buys into that reputation. Though circulation figures soon reveal how many people in general are buying the product. People are always surprised at how little Paris Vogue sells because they have the idea that it's a desirable magazine.

So according to my theory, I wouldn't single out Carine as the only example, or say such adoration is typical of anyone French. I think it is an industry-wide phenomenon, it also happens with Katie Grand, I think.

I'm not as impressed or excited about this issue as others but I guess it is because I am not that familiar with Stéphanie. The pictures above are quite nice but I think it has more to do with the styling and the fact that I love b&w shots. To be honest a little boring, as her face is the exact same in every image but ... it's good .. it's alright
