Vogue Paris March 2011 : Saskia De Brauw by Mert and Marcus

Love the colors but saskia looks weird in this cover. I don't think it's her best shot, bad bad choice.

The cover is a lovely way for Carine to exit.
Definitely. I was never a Carine fan but I might get this just for its meaning and the fact that she put her act together at the very end, this could easily belong in her archive of early VPs. And yeah, from what she said in that interview for style, this seems to be right in the middle of what she wanted to project in her magazine and what the new heads wanted. Next issue with Gisele is inevitably bound to look quite passé.

Quite beautiful! Its sad that its Carine's last issue but at least its a good way to leave an impression.

I can`t wait for the EDITO scan. Can`t wait to read what Carine said on her last issue

Regarding my Vogue Enfants comment, I had the Tom Ford issue in mind. That whole kid editorial was creepy to me personally, hence my hesitation towards this. Kids fashion isn't creepy. Carine's take on it, was. I'm just not fond of little girls wearing such heavy make up and outfits. It reminded me of TLC's Toddlers and Tiaras. It makes me cringe.

I agree with most comments here about the bad photography, the bad angles, the general hideousness of the cover, etc. Theres just some thing "off" about it for me. It also lacks that "Carine" quality, if you know what I mean.

Besides, Im sorry if this sounds harsh, but I find Saskia to be pretty ordinary looking. I'm sorry if I missed the boat on that one, but since when was her look "interesting" or "in" for that matter? There are a many prettier models, why her? Nothing about her face is remotely appealing to me. Sorry if that offends anyone, but she just really scares me.

A cover of just Carine by Inez & Vinoodh or David Sims would have been much much much more appealing and dynamic. Its a shame that we have to have this girl and that awful Givenchy collection stuffed down our throats! :innocent:

This cover is probably the worst I've ever seen from Vogue Paris. Her expression ..

I've really excited to see Emanuelle take over this magazine and break off Carine's umbilical cord to Givenchy.

Please stop with the kids editorial ...
The whole media sexualize kids everyday ... And actually Vogue Paris ediitorial was the only one to completely do it without obstacles. Eventhough I actually think the whole idea was having kids being kids in the mother's wardrobe.
Look at David Hamilton (my father likes him. :) we have almost all his books at home lol), Brooke Shiels in CK ... We have become very weak in front of the power of the kids ...

Regarding this cover ....
I like it, not love it ...

But it's Carine latest issue and I hope it's gonna tear my heart !!!
I've loved VP from 2001 to 2005-2006, from Baron and M&M eras I keep the best memories ...
I really hope Alt surrenders with the best people (speaking of art direction, TOO) ...

I can understand why this cover should have been good - soft colors, nice textures, delicate palette, beautiful pose, unusual make-up and of course none of the glamour that we have come to expect from Carine - that glamour that instantly makes a lot of us frown (myself not included).

That doesn't detract from the fact that the model looks like an idiot. Not like she's waking up from surgery. Not like she's blase. Just like a moron pretending to be fashionable. Personally, I think we get enough of pretty female morons elsewhere - we don't need them on the cover of VP as well...not that Saskia is by any means an idiot or that it would matter if indeed she was....she just shouldn't be portrayed as a lobotomized girl from the Victorian era.

LOVE the cover! I'm kind of sad that this is Carine's last cover/issue...

who is this Saskia De Brauw?

That's something I was expecting for the cover. Strong and androgynous with a captivating expression. Not to mention I've taken an immediate liking to Hanaa. Although after looking at the cover for a second time, I'm gradually starting to see hints of appeal.

awkward pose, not the most flattering angle for her but i prefer 'wide awake and dreaming'

i usually get more of a indie hipster meets Spock vibe from Saskia but here i'm digging the molly ringwald/kristen mcmenamy look she's working. i'm not sure about the grainy/screen thing tho. is this supposed represent Carine's fond farewell via nostalgic, questionably grainy, voyeuristic shades?

it's mind-boggling what a hugely influential cultural phenomenon and fashion icon Carine become over the past few years. but sadly i think that coincided with the loss of luster and appeal of Carine/VP for me. but even then there was never a dull moment inside the pages of her magazine; she had balls and although i didn't always agree, i loved Carine's conviction and take it or leave dedication to her singular vision. She knew how to create that elusive fashion buzz and excitement with each issue. and even if i didn't buy every issue, i still went out of my way, every month, around my hickville town to spend time looking and dreaming through the pages of her magazine. i only wish that Carine had gotten more recognition for her actual body of work than her wardrobe. Carine, your presence at VP will be missed...

This is exactly the direction Xavier Romatet wants for the magazine. The cover is a lovely way for Carine to exit. I'm looking forward to seeing how Alt takes it from here.

You mean something abstract, ethereal and a little surreal ....simple shots with huge doses of drama and sensuality¿¿??!!. lovit:blush: but still, this cover does not achieve that! which probably, no offense, due to model choice....

I'm interesting in knowing more about he wants for the magazine=)

she is too interesting herself to pull off this kind of makeup. dont like it. looks very vogue italia.
