Vogue Paris October 2012 : Kate Moss & George Michael by Mario Testino

The amount of airbrushing they have done on Kate's face is shocking to me, it seems like its way more than usual. Her face looks like she is 50 trying to be 20! Never a good look, and its sad, because i just saw a candid of her out in Milan looking glowing, and beautiful out and about in the daylight.

That part killed me, lol. Sounds like someone who's seen aliens. Is seeing Kate Moss looking half-way decent in the daylight really rare these days? Well, it hasn't stopped fashion honchos from fawning themselves over her still.

Also, I agree that the inside content doesn't look any better than the cover.

Ok ... So first of all, this looks like a Vogue British (or even worse a Grazia UK cover) ...
Why not shooting Johnny Halliday, who's probably gonna die soon ... Why not Polnareff ?
Emmanuelle Alt is a big fan of music, and as a lot of people around the world, pop and rock music influence her creative work. That's quite normal ... And that's for the better ...
*quote]

seriously! how can 'White Light' inspire anyone? it is not even average... the video is below average as well... there is no chemistry between George and Kate in the video and she appears for 5 seconds... the song has not charted (I am not that interested in charts) or made any musical impact... if that's what inpsires Alt I am really sorry for her...

I know, there're many Kate fans here and I might upset some of you, although have no intention to do so but seriously, yes she is gorgeous, yes she is iconic but totally overused too... there are many iconic and gorgeous models apart from Kate... I just find the whole obsession with her a bit insane... that's all...

Emmanuelle seems to be auditioning for the role of EIC of Rolling Stone with these music-dedicated issues. It's so repetitive. And Mario... he's just so blah. When he's good he's so f-ing good, but when he's bad it's so bad that it hurts your eyes.

Holy craaap...what had she done to VP? This is total bull****...make that pic as the cover and if she tryin to get our attention bashing her job as EIC, she did! This is so bad, as a publication that always serve good cover, now they pretend as a cheesy tabloid. Newhouse should see this pic. Is Alt really good choice as VP EIC now? I hope they just make a joke...

Oh Lord, my 2nd thread viewing tonight after the Prada S/S 2013 thread.......and it's not a good night for me.
This is quite sad in all respects. Why the hell did they commission this shot for the cover of one of the most respected magazines around? Also who DID commission it (P45 in the post sharpish).
This is hands down the worst Vogue Paris cover I can remember. Not for the first time Kate looks like a wax caraciture of herself or Amanda Lear, but this time it beggars belief and much respect to George for his music career, but that face shouldn't be on any magazine cover. If this was April 1st I would think it was a joke and to say it was a 'car crash' of a cover would be ironic in George's case.:ninja:

Tomber pour la top model would mean he's having a coup de foudre for her ...
Tomber la top model, means his sex appeal, his flirt attack made Kate fall in love with him (and they had sex, in the end) ... it's something a hip hop kind of guy from Harlem (in a French version) or a guy with a bad vocabulary and no good education would say ... it's not a correct French !! I guess it's a joke to appear young, but that's so ridiculous !

Is my French completely wrong?
I thought "La" referred to the feminine and "Le" referred to the masculine.
Why is it "La Pop Star" referring to George and
"Le Top Model" Referring to Kate? Is that completely wrong? or do I need more French lessons?

And is "Tombe" from the verb "Tomber"?
Loosely translated as "to fall" as in you "fall in love with someone".

Just when I thought Alt's VP was beginning to go somewhere thanks to their last issue. But how am I not surprised about this. Shame on you, Emmanuelle!

I don't know if I can explain this correctly because I'm terrible at explaining grammar particularly when it's referring to a language other than English, but yes you are right, La is feminine and Le is masculine. However the Le and the La are not referring to the actual subjects (ex: George and Kate). It is referring to the 'Top Model' or to 'Pop Star'. So when you say Le Top Model, it's because Top Model in French is masculine. You are not, of course, trying to say that Kate Moss is a man  Likewise you would say 'La Pop Star' because 'Pop Star 'is feminine, even though the pop star you are referring to is George Michael. I think that is correct. Sorry if I'm giving you wrong info... it's been a while since I took a French course.

Alt and Testino is not a good pair! I`m getting sick of Testino`s work lately.. and this is to no exception.

You're right, La for femenine nouns and Le for masculine ones. But in the sentence "La pop star" the sujet is the word Star, and star is a femenine noun so, that's why La is the definite article, there's not a masculine form for Star in french.

And yes, you are right again, certainly Tombe is a conjugated form from the verb Tomber (infinitive).
"La pop star tombe la top model" is not well wrote, it must be "La pop star tombe pour la top model" accurately translated it would be "The pop star falls down by the top model"

Model is a foreign word (in french it is tranlate to the word mannequin) usually on latin languages, they (foreign words) are become on masculine nouns, like l'internet or le téléviseur.

This is all correct ... :flower:

"Tomber quelqu'un" (seduce) "tomber la chemise" (take off a shirt) are idiomatic familiar expressions ...
There's also "tomber le masque" (Show your real you, your real face - so you take off your mask, and show your real face) ...

But we are going way off topic, there ... And I think people don't really care ...
:D:blush:

Thanks Alauu, Pradable, BerlinRocks!

I wasn't aware that Pop Star and Top Model were feminine and masculine.
Clearly I do need some additional French lessons!

:D:blush:

No I care! :flower: As someone who can't read anything besides English I do often wonder what headlines on foreign magazines mean (sometimes I can figure it out...often I'm lost though). It adds another layer of context while viewing the cover I think.

oh it doesnt add anything as for me, when i read headlines on any language however i do understand the message) usually its just quibble as a biggest and main qliche of all fashion (and not only fashion) publication

Some of the model choices sound okay, but wow from the crappy cover (are george michael's eyes even pointing in the same direction?) to the somewhat lackluster preview, I think I'll have to pass on this issue.
