Carine Roitfeld leaves Vogue Paris *Update* Emmanuelle Alt named new Editor-in-Chief

Did she ever stop working with Ford? her 'consulting' seemed more than present even during his hiatus/perfume time.. not to mention the amount of years she worked with him at Gucci. And of course, Ford's recent guest-appearance at VP. They might make it official just to grab a headline or two but it just seems redundant imo, everyone knows they work together.. and I can't help but wonder how well they will do now that he is not backed up by a major house (like he did in 1995) and she doesn't head the biggest outlet of exposure for the type of work he does (VP). Only time will tell, I guess... they might as well revamp Purple or.. start their own magazine. :innocent:

I also think it'd be awful to see Alt as VP's EIC.. at least Carine could see past her nose.. Emmanuelle absorbed everything that was wrong in Carine's work and magnified it.

I like how u comment on Alt....That's so ture and finger crossed it wont happen. And for the ford business, I dont know, just heard from my frd. Maybe He really will give her a title...:flower:

I feel really bad she's leaving... she was just the queen of Vogue for me, and that's sad... i couldn't beleive that Vogue Paris works whithout her but let's wait and see what's gonna be the future for vp!! exciting!

Wow, this is big. I wonder if Anna W had anything to do with this :innocent:

I still can't belive, VP without Carine? It's like... i mean... i can't even....

I find it hilarious that this thread is 90% despair 10% rejoicing when in all the VP threads most members can't wait to defecate on each and every issues...

Regardless of what your opinion on the direction VP has taken in recent years, there is no denying that Carine transformed it from a vanity/insider 'prestige' publication to a genuinely profitable business.
Any EIC stepping in Carine's shoes will have to raise to that challenge. It's not just going to be about regaining 'fashion credential' and putting all the obscure models TFS worships on the cover to please the fashionista.
I actually fear will be seeing more actresses on the cover...

All in all, I would wait up a bit before firing up the fireworks. Just look at W: that publication got a flashy, expensive and hyped make-over and is now worst than ever.

Agree with everything. Carine took VP to a new level in fashion publications. I've always been a huge fan of her style, she somehow manage to use fashion (sometimes in the most singular way) to create a artistic, edgy and provocative work. And i can't see anyone in the busness today who can be compared to her, wich makes me scared about the magazine's future.:(

Ever since I became interested in fashion about 7 or 8 years ago Carine has been EIC at Vogue Paris, and I've always liked her, so i am a little sad, but mostly in a nostalgic, "end of an era" sort of way.

Although I feel the resignation is shocking, change is refreshing. let's hope it will be so for VP and Carine in her future endeavers.

it's sad that she is leaving, of course, but i am excited at the same time - i am excited to see how everything is going to change.
the owners should be strange to replace her with Alt - though she is great, but they have worked together hand in hand with Carine, and I'm sure that what we saw wasn't Carine's Vogue, it was carine's and emanuelle's vogue.
i'm share they will dig someone, who we wouldn't expect to take over Carine's position. The big question I have is - will it be some french? I'd love to see someone not french, but I can hardly imagine this happening.
I didnt live in France for all the time, so I havent read SO many VPs in my life, but from what I remember - this number with Ford is the best I have ever seen. I cant wait for her last one. And it's completely logical she is finishing in the end of january - its the fashion weeks! I think on the HC fashion week she will do some very private, though not-so-small dinner, which will stain THE event for years...

I'll miss her.

Carine is Vogue, she is a true parisienne, chic and modern. And she is not scared to take risks bu putting a transgender model in the magazine or creating those "p*rn chic" style for Gucci with Tom Ford.

No one can replace her, and not Anna Wintour who is a total bore...

EXCUSE ME?! This is awful!!!!!! People in the fashion industry must be flipping the f-ck out. I wonder who will take over... hopefully not Emmanuelle Alt, even though I love her style. She's almost incapable of being innovative, it's always something with a blazer thrown over it.

When I read the news, I was a bit depressed actually. I mean, she's such an icon and took VP to a whole new nevel on the fashion business. I hope she won't go to the US but do something in France. She would do great as a kind of 'kingmaker', promoting new brands, and fashions houses, and well fashion in France.

Emmanuelle will probably be the new EIC for a while. Wonder if she will be able to reinvent herself if she does become EIC.

^That is also my concern with Alt, but I think she is the most potential EIC for VP. I'm not ready to say RIP VP.. not yet.

With that said, I expect great work from Tom Ford and Carine Roitfeld collabration

with two high profile vogue ediatrices out, one wonders whether or not the other international vogue editions can expect shake ups at the top.

really really sad year Alyona now Carine
good luck to whom ever will replace Carine although Carine
is always ahead.

I hopt its not Anna Dello Russo, I dont want to see predictable covers
and worst, the models being featured :(

There's got to be more of a solid reason behind Carine's resignation. As much as I love her aesthetic, I'm optimistic about the future of Vogue Paris.
The speculation is going to drag over the next few days. I'm secretly rooting for Alt and then there shouldn't be any drastic change to the magazine.
I've always had a thing for Vogue Paris. I feel its always current and cutting edge, regardless of the controversial content. Which for me is what makes it.

I still can't deny how devastated I am with Carine's departure. No matter who the replacement, Vogue Paris won't be the same.

Good luck to Carine with the future projects!

People seriously don't believe that Anna would leave her post at Vogue US and go to Vogue Paris... do they? Like, really? I've seen comments like this a few times and I just don't get the sentiment behind them.

While I would like to see Harper's Bazaar US improved I don't think Carine should be the one to do that.

Also, does anybody else think that the next EIC who will leave Vogue is Alexandra Shulman? I think her days are numbered.

This year has got to be the worst in Fashion. French Vogue has lost a great Editor and a Stylist as well. I don`t know what to say. Please let this be a dream.

Yes its been a horrible for fashion, great editors resigning and a few deaths.

^^ I think Alexandra Shulman would be better at HB.. (we're making such a cocktail of names here :ninja:).. if they're considering someone like Alt to take over VP, I wish they'd also consider Ludivine Poiblanc, I'm guessing she didn't leave in the best terms but she's one of the few Roitfeld-trained, VP 'graduates' that has a strong style but open enough not to let it take over her vision, her work at Muse was incredible, she can pair fashion & sex in the right dose that could satisfy both VP addicts and convert those who have so far resisted.. she knows commercial as well as independent, who knows, she might as well be perfect for that pair of 'shoes', which, like Harumi says, are admittedly going to be very hard to fit.. you need to find someone that witnessed first hand the formula that revived VP this past decade, who can also tell what went wrong in the last 2-3 years and who has the skill and experience to improve it. I think either Ludivine or Sophie Hirtzel (both French and experienced in the field) would be good.. but then I'm just throwing names here. :P

My dream play:

Carine to Tom Ford. I think Carine is best in this atmosphere and to be honest I believe that Tom is as well.

While I'd love to see Grace Coddington ascend to the throne at Vogue Paris I think there's no chance of seeing that. But if I were going to peg an outsider to get it... Katie Grand would be my choice. She's been commanding two of the most directional books and very successfully.

Shala Monroque is my wild card. Really wild but hey.. it's not lik I'm deciding
