hi mammab and socal, is the zippy straps as long as the classic paddy? i guess what i want to say is - is it a arm or shoulder bag.. =D

The straps are long enough that the bag can be worn on the shoulders.

Nordstrom SCP also had a zippy in chocolate yesterday... ;)

For anyone who cares regarding the new leather, this is what I have surmised from buying and returning so many Paddingtons:

When the first batch of SS06 bags hit the stores in late 05, they had a 6 digit serial number like the previous seasons. These bags (aka my Whiskey and Noir) have soft, pebbly, slouchy leather. The next batch that hit around the late January/early February 06 time frame have the 10 digit serial number and stiffer/less textured leather (texture varies). These bags also have a stiffer inside lining which makes for a more stable base - they sit up taller.

I concluded these findings from the second Whiskey I bought and returned to BG online, the new chocolate which I still have from Nordstrom, and the Noir I just returned. All came out around the same time, have the 10 digit s/n, stiffer/less textured leather, and thicker inside lining. The Noir I kept with the 6 digit s/n must have been a return even though I just got it last week. That NM doesn't even carry Chloe, so a customer probably returned it there instead of the store it was purchased from.

Who is gonna run and check their bags to prove my theory wrong? :)

Interesting theory. I wonder which bags will be coming from LVR in March.
How many of us are waiting? I preordered my whiskey in Jan for Mar delivery.

Wow - I think you're right about the leather!

My paddy, which I think is from the first batch you mentioned, is super-pebbly and soft. It kinda collapses when I put it down.

Then I checked out a newer one in chocolate - the leather is practically uniform throughout, and it barely slouches at all.

What are your preferences with the bags? Girls like their Fendi spys pebbly, and I'm assuming it's the same with Paddys. All the fake Paddys I've seen around have stiff, plasticy leather.

When I was first getting into Paddingtons, I wanted a more structured bag and was disappointed with the slouchy leather. But now that I have seen the newer, stiffer leather, I defiinitely prefer the softer, lumpier, slouchier leather.

It is difficult to see the differences of old and new in photos. Here are photos of the Noir I kept and returned. First is the returned, last two the keeper. It's really hard to tell the smoother, stiffer leather of the retuned bag.

Roey...I bought mine from an authorized chloe store in bahrain and it doesnt have any serial number on it!! Its the tan mini from ss05. Is it normal not to have a serial number? I'm waiting for all you experts to reassure me :)

Did you check in the inside pocket? You might have to dig for it; it's a leather tab attached to the side of the pocket. Even if it's not there, it doesn't mean you didn't receive an authentic bag, as I believe some shipments were sent minus the serial number.

how much is too much?

So I know I have a problem. When I find a bag I , I can't get enough and keep on buying and buying and then I get burnt out b/c I have so many of the same. I definitely do not want this to happen with Chloe. I did it to myself back in the MJ day when Stellas were so popular, then I did it with Balenciaga, Mulberry and well now here I am.

I need you all to tell me how CRAZY it is to have more than 1 or 2 of these bags. Is it crazy???

Oh sh*t! I went from totally sane to crazy in one month's time...

(Well, to be honest, that would be with my latest "Chloe addiction"...signs of onset in F05 with "issues" related to Balenciaga and YSL, not to mention the Chloe, Fendi, and Chanel returns as I determined personal preferences...oh my, and before that it was shoes...)

Well let me consult my DSM-IV (diagnostic manual for psychiatric disorders)...I believe this would signify the possibility of obsessive/compulsive disorder.

GREAT NEWS!!! I just saved myself many $$$ at the psychologist's office...more $$$ for bags!!!

We should have a bag swapping thread here. You're not crazy; I do this too. I went through a Balenciaga phase in 2003 where I not only had to have the black and camel, but also had more than several of each shipped so I could choose the best one. I paid way too much in shipping costs to get them to me and return them to the stores. In the end, I only kept one, the Black City. But I can't even count how many I saw!

Only if you find yourself tiring of the bags would I say it is crazy. Are you going to look at your Chloe's a year from now and regret the purchases? I honestly don't think I will. The style is so pretty and even though some feel it's not a classic, I think the original satchel will stand the test of time. I never regreted the B Bag purchase even though I don't use it as much as I did. And I plan to buy another City in a cognac color if they ever make it again.

I'd buy the Betty right now if it wasn't $1700! I try to cap my expenditures at the Paddington satchel price tag, but even that is getting a little excessive.

I know one day I will end up with a Mulberry Roxi in Oak. I have been lemming that one for years. The style is also timeless.

ROTFLMFAO! I might go delete my serious post - she summed this up well!

SoCal: Please forward the manual on when you are through...

Thanks Roey, I feel better. A LOT better  I do the same thing too, I pay way to much for shipping and then return after I pick the best. I mean, I am sooooo embarrased everytime the Fed Ex guy comes to my house. It's getting to the point of where I am hiding and just wait for him to leave the package at my door. He's always kidding around with me about how I'm his best customer, blah, blah and I see him EVERYWHERE. It's insane. I see him driving down the street and he's like, hanging out of his truck waving frantically to me. I even bumped into him at Starbucks once as he was making a delivery. I wanted to DIE. I don't know why I feel this way. Wait. I know, it's because I know I have a problem and he knows and I am totally embarrased!

I have another bag coming on Tuesday and I am already stressing out about seeing him, again!

I should say that I still do love Balenciaga. I have 2 left (I sold a bunch) that I really adore.

I am glad however, that I am not alone! I'm soooooo addicted to handbags. They're like a piece of art and such a statement piece.

 mamb and socal!

mammab -- I agree with roey. If you love and think you'll still love them a year from now, and if you can afford it, why not? But if you think it's just a phase I'd stop at one :)

OMG I did the exact same thing with Marc Jacobs purses! Not only did I have to have multiple Sofias and Stellas - I had to have every shade of pink they made! :p I've since downsized my Marc Jacobs collection - but the ones that are left are still pink!

Before that it was Prada... Gucci... LV multicolor. The LV multicolor phase was definitely a 'regression.'

So knowing I have this tendency - ie obsession - I'm being very picky with my Chloe bags. I plan to stick to one classic satchel - but that doesn't mean I won't be getting an Edith or a Betty!

I figure, if it's not purses, it'll be something else. Like brownie sundaes. Or shoes. Or coats. Apparently I had several different types of hamsters as a little kid. Might as well enjoy your obsessions if they're beautiful!

You are so describing what I'm doing right now lol, and it's not even funny! My husband is ready to commit me. I wish we could have a swap thread, it would really save my life.
