^Well I'm sure the haute couture client is an older woman anyways.

people will fight with me ...
but i don't care ...

i've been so brain-burnt by all his collections that first the Dior New Look doesn't even bother me there ...

What gets me excited is the ironic read John is making about recession ... adds to his passion for sex !
This is the BEST collection he's done in years ...

and i know one woman who was like hyperventilating on front row ... Carine Roitfeld ! I'm sure she fainted when she saw that !
That's gonna be a HUGE HIT in VP September ! At least, I hope !

oh and the hats = i faint ! i want one !
stephen jones ?

Not really, I kind of agree with you.

Still do not see the couture edge of some of those pieces but I love underwear clothing. This should be a lesson to Dolce: their stuff usually look cheap, but these do look very lux.

My complaint is the repetition of ideas: this is his resort show with lighter and more luxurious fabrics sans the skirts. That is it. The same thing over and over again. Yes it is glamorous, but does that cut it anymore? I doubt it.

I am not against the embroidery. I am not against excess. I am not against his retro vision. I am just against seeing the same things again and again; however masterfully they may have been constructed. He just seems so 'not inspired' lately.

And I am sick of his nude/black lace pieces. ENOUGH ALREADY!! Yes they are stunning beyond words, but I started to think that the only reason why he is doing those continuously for the past 4 years is because they are like some sort of a best-seller or something... because it is so lazy for him at this point to drape some precious black lace and tulle over a beige/nude base.

Been there, done that, in so many ways...

I am kinda torn. I wish there was a more solid theme than just lingerie. The jackets without pants is a cool look, but in the end the jackets are the same old that he always does and the pantslessness is just a styling trick. It doesn't live up to what I expect from Dior couture.

However, I love the final looks. The lingerie tops with the beautiful origami bottoms. The gowns make up for the earlier looks.

oh god what is this?
i mean i dont hate it (like, let's say spring 2008 couture) but it's always.. the same stuff. the cuts of the jackets, some of the jacket+skirt outfits, the gowns, everything seems like we pretty much seen it before :(

on the other hand i LOVE the shoes.

^ I mean it is more clever editorial styling what seduces here, rather than a solid collection of well-cut and cohesive clothes, that is for sure.

Ok, I came in here with absolutely NO expectations because I decided that is the only way I might be impressed. I have to say that I love the fact that at least the suggestion of sex is back again. There was this influx of sex a year ago at couture (you know, back when we still mostly appreciated the New Look redo) but this time it's more obvious. And dare I say that some of this bare the same feeling as S/S 03 Galliano rtw :ninja:

I like the dresses actually, by the way. And here comes the slogan of Dior from the past 3 years: PICK A COLOR!!! :judge:

If there's one thing I think no one should have anything to complain about in this collection, it has to be the hats. I never thought I would love all the hats in this collection so so much :)!

The only reason Galliano has thrown in some old-fashioned underwear is so this couture collection doesn't merge into all of the other ones he's done recently.
For Winter, Richard Nicoll did an entire collection using details from antique under-garments and garter belts in a much more subtle and gorgeous way than this uninspired rubbish.
Galliano can do better. Everyone, including himself, knows it, but he isn't being allowed to do it.

Maybe Galliano himself says 'pick a color' to his clients: since he is offering so many scrumptious ones here.

When I saw the first picture I knew exactly how it would turn out...
It reminds me of a couture collection he did in 2005, don't remember if it's F/W or S/S...
Some looks are nice though, I can't hate corselets...

^^Maybe...but I'd much rather see a cohesive collection in color for once. If I can use FW 0809 couture as an example again, that collection was so incredibly strong in the first section when there was only black and white. Then he went into the pastels and oranges and pinks and blablabla...it went downhill. For a collection which is supposed to offer tailored jackets and skirts, loud colors like fuchsia and yellow mixed into one collection don't work. If it's for a loud and bombastic, dramatic collection like S/S 03 couture for example, THEN it works IMO....

wow galliano sure knows how to take a business woman suit nd turn it into the hottest item at the brothel.
i swear this couture collection looks a lot like one he's done previously. its getting boring john.

I'm not a huge fan, and this is coming from one of the biggest CDHC addicts around
But I agree with a lot of what others said, we've seen it before.
And I'm not a huge fan of some of the patterns. Structure-wise, it's pretty nice, but the patterns and materials look recycled and sometimes a bit tacky
Not to mention I hate the 80s vibe-especially the hair! 1980s hair + Dior Couture = BAD Dior and couture are too good for that
Yes, we all know John can do better-just look at what he did for his ready-to-wear (namely JG, but CD wasn't to shabby) I hate saying, this, but I'm now looking forward to fall to se what he'll to for RTW
Although I do like the hats and shoes. Makeup's not too bad either, and Sasha looked great in particular :)

Dior does cut the fabulous jackets in Paris... I'll give them that.
