I like this look but I sometimes question if it's not stupid to buy jeans that have been damaged and pay extra money.

To me it's stupid.... and somewhat tacky to pay for some company to damage my clothes.

I agree. Usually when I see a person wearin ripped jeans I automatically think they are probably old and worn.

it's a bit too fake to be honest, I'd prefer a pair that were subtly distressed rather than a few rips that have been strategically placed...

it's all about personal style...some distressing looks obviously faked but others looks subtle and unique and stylish

a la Dior Homme SS 04.. damaged denim

I say you have to get the damage right...if you're going for the 'I'm a lumberjack' type look then actually throw three tins of paint over them, slash them with a stanley knife, soften them with an electric sanding disk and then drop them in a pirhana tank...don't mess around with silly little 'designer rips'...

Yeah, they are coming out with distressed cords too!

This is what I mean
Battered, tattered and torn to perfection. Diagonally seamed flared legs and a dirty wash complete the shabby-chic look you'll love to wear.
$178

Ugh  Hate the cut, hate the distressing - the whole flare thing is so boring and the distress is so fake...

Oh you little, you discovered my project. I'm going to abandon that now. :o :(

I don't like this fake ripping and what not. I admit, soem designers make it good, I have seen one good example. But as for the rest, I detested the idea when I used to wear jeans that were frayed, and wonder if some company would sell them that way :(

Ohh yea, I'd just like to add, that I don't like distressed or ripped jeans. Just my personal taste.

I like some distressed/destroyed jeans, but of the ones posted so far I only like these:

Diesel, Chip & Pepper, Seven and Paper Denim are ones I have that I think have "natural-looking" distressing.

I see a lot of jeans that appear to be very symmetrically sanded and/or bleached and I don't like that look. I also don't like if there is too much contrast between the "distressed" part and the rest of the denim.
