Gucci F/W 08.09 Milan

it's very wearable if you just take one of the more detailed pieces and pair it with more simple pieces.

Some pieces are beautiful but some are horrible, plus I hate the fur!

So Cavalli was the first person on the planet to do Russian ethnic? Her version is no where as tacky has his vision in any case.
Gucci copied Zara? Zara don't set the trends, they COPY THEM. There is this strange confusion about that.
Also, what is there to copy from the OLSEN twins, especially when they simpyle copy what they BUY FROM OTHER DESIGNERS.
Tom Ford has left the building. RIP. Hopefully he will start his own line so you aficionados can drool after him forever more. She is NOT TOM FORD so why should she try and emulate him anyway?

I agree.

You're right. Maybe we should accept fact that Gucci is now a cheap and uninspired former luxury brand gone to dogs that lacks any elegance/glamour that once was synonymous with this label. What great epiphany.....

Cavalli, Anna Sui, Balenciaga, i dont now, this is a kaleidoscope of other brands, she is not constant at all...

Thats ludacris , Frida has copied a lot of Cavallis style , its in your face too , but Cavalli did this like a few years back , another designer doing this same is fine but a big multi billion dollar fashion group, you expect some more innovation seriously . This whole carousel jumping with decades at gucci is sort of ridiculous . Its not so much people miss Tom Ford ( he is the best ) as it is they expect high calibre clothes , Gucci is now the Forever 21 in upscale fashion. Gucci use to be out impeccable cuts and sleekness , I think the new gucci logo says it all . tacky

Actually, I agree with this!! :ninja:
Other than the tacky bit because I like this line!

SO happy someone actually understands!

There are pieces that I like...and I tend to like the hippie, rock'n'roll, grunge look, so I like a lot of the styling and hair and make up....it's one of Frida's better collections.

However, I'm with Sal, Dutty, and several others here that miss the Tom Ford Gucci. Regardless of whether or not he was your favorite, you must admit that he created an unmistakable look for Gucci that consisted of extreme luxury and powerful sexuality. Which, in my opinion, is what Gucci should be all about. Save cute and girly and trendy for New York.

Frida is totally incapable of being consistent. Polo players one season, disco queens the next, Italian beach babes, then 1940's Hollywood vixen, then...who knows what SS 08 was, and now this Russian grunge rocker. I'd be OK with all of that if there was a consistent look or level of quality than ran through each season seamlessly (like Tom was excellent at doing...he totally developed a Gucci look that transcended the changes of each season).

It just seems to be a random parade of whatever at Gucci nowadays.

I can't help but think of etro and balenciaga..with a bit of fendi.

So this is why I like this. Thank you

After seeing the whole collection I agree it is just a rip off.

I agree 100% with what you said disco54.

^ Exactly. If it wasn't for her past inconsistency and the fact that I'm kind of sick of hippie stuff at the moment, I'd probably really like this. It's a bit more luxe than I'm used to seeing from her.

Now, I can't speak for the other Ford fans out there, but my own personal frustration about Gucci has less to do with the fact that I'm some super-fan still in denial about Ford leaving or that I want Frida to be something she isn't (not so sure what she is though, so...)

My frustration has to do with the fact that while she's brought something different to the house, she's extremely inconsistent. She latches on to a tired, one dimentional trend that, frankly, has been done better by other designers before she touched it, and managed to jump from one look to another. In all honesty, the jumping from one look and mood to another makes me question not only her credibility as a real designer, but her integrity as well. There's no true identity to Gucci anymore.

When did I get any inlination that she was a sort of grungy street urchin rocker type? Never, because her collections have spanned so many different looks and personalities that finding any common thread is a joke.

Pick a theme and pick millions of prints, that's how Frida designs.

The accessories are the ugliest I have ever seen! A few dresses are nice but the one Freja is wearing is a total Balenciaga rip off.

And mine too in addition to the fact that there is no luxury.
