Gucci F/W 08.09 Milan

im so sick of people who are still lamenting over tom ford
frida brings something new and interesting each season....

Agreed. :flower:

I am simply in love with this collection. The only thing I don't care for are the monogrammed bags, but that goes for any designer, honestly. This is fantastic.

I don't get it at all. This is too overwhelming for me.

at least Frida doesn't do the same season after season they're all different but they don't miss the Gucci thing

But what IS the Gucci "thing".......?

And I believe, just like musicians, designers watch the work of others and get inspired.....some put their personal spin on things while others do it basically literally. Send this down a Cavalli or Sui runway and no one would flench to say this is different.

cut frida some slack. personally, as much as i love tom ford, some of his collections for gucci were a little borderline sexist.

This collection is very Frida. Patterns are her thing. For some reason the way she works with those kind of fabrics stood out from the way Cavalli did it or Anna Sui. For some reason her older collections seem even genius compared to this. I don't know. I don't have a final opinion yet.

I love the details. The shoes are amazing. In all a very nice and rich collection.rolleyes:

i agree with people saying that thier first impression was Cavalii.

It's just so blah and boring. When I think of Gucci, I think strong, sleek, feminine and powerful. Fringe on boots does not suggest "strong" or "sleek" or "powerful" to me.

I'm so sick of the babuska inspired by trends. I think that the problem with people comparing Frida to Tom Ford is that under Tom Ford, Gucci had a talented, artistic designer with vision. Frida seems like some girl who went to fashion school.

Big whoop ... just like her designs aren't anything special.

This is all very tom-ford-circa-2000-lite. But let's ask ourselves.. is that necessarily bad? Of course.. gucci hasn't got the same edge, it's diluted, but this stuff is wearable, and also.. dare I say it.. pleasing to the eye?

wowowow...hippie chic:crush:...i love the styling....very frida...her best show so far imo...and i quite agree with fouroclock...patterns are her thing...anyway...so much better than 08ss....which was just :sick::sick:

I like it... I see nothing wrong with it. I do not care this style has been done by others (many others have used a dated concept before), that doesn't make the collection bad... The clothes are beautifully made and have an expensive look, it fits well and I would wear it proud.

^ My thoughts exactly. I love it for the fun of it. It is not necessarily walking art like Rodarte, but it is real, lux fashion and fun.

I love the hair. Anyone know the technique?

^ Is there a technique?

That's pretty much what my hair looks like if I wash it, leave it to dry naturally, sleep on it and then go out without combing it (which is what I do most of the time!)!

Not that the casual-look is a bad thing, at all, IMO.

It is easy to harp on Frida's lack of fashion direction as the brand has all but given up on sustaining its RTW identity, but lest not forget that Tom Ford's Gucci was never a fountain of originality to begin with. Much of Gucci's past success (for RTW) comes from knowing how to style the looks to fit the mood of the season, and that's what's happened with this season's Gucci too.

While I do agree that Frida ripped off Balenciaga a tad too soon to be acceptable, I still love this collection especially after the disaster that was SS08. Yes, from an integrity standpoint it seems like a desperate attempt to wow the Olsens, but the Olsens have never looked this good. The only thing I could do without is the fur. Those pants! I don't think Cavalli can cut a pair like that. That's a Gucci tradition. I also don't think Cavalli's narrative carries with it any dark mystique, but I felt plenty of it coming from Gucci.

The shoes are rarely disappointments at Gucci and this season is no exception. The studded boots are pretty bad ***--better than Louboutin, even.

I like this. The adverts are going to be gorgeous, and I am sure Natasha will bring the goods.
